Greetings to everyone on this forum, peace be upon all of you.
I will make my story brief as no one likes a story that drags on! I was born into a family of devoted Shi'a Muslims. I was, without putting a negative tone on it, forcefully pushed into the belief system and everything that usually comes with it. By force, I mean they try their best to tell you this is the right path and everything else is wrong and they're evil and they're going to hell, bla bla bla, you know, the usual propaganda. As I grew up, I was exposed to the Sharia law and what it was, what it consists of, and to be quite honest, I disliked it a lot. Because at the time I thought the Shi'a faith was correct, I figured there must be a reason to all this, but I had some concerns over it. In my mind I was always asking myself, would god, the infallible, the merciful, order things like this? By virtue of common sense, this is barbaric.
Then came the topic on the head scarves. Me personally, I LOVE hair. It amazes me the power and beauty it holds and how a simple neat design displayed by a woman can leave you in awe. I finally said to myself one day, I'm going to get to the bottom of this and find out how on earth all these nonsensical laws are branded 'islam', starting with the hijab. I said to myself, 'I want to know what god says about this issue. I am sure god would make a clear law about this, and I want a detailed article proving/disproving the concept of hijab'? Upon doing Google entries, I came upon a website some of you may be familiar with, quran-islam.org I believe it is. Long story short, it gave me the answers I was looking for, not on just hijab, but on other issues that i've always had doubt about. Now I can proudly say that I uphold the quran alone, and within the first week of this new found truth, I felt free. This particular discovery had put me instantly out of depression that I was going through for nearly four years, such is the power, in my opinion at least, of allah's blessing upon those whom he guides, and I feel guided, and free.
Now whenever someone criticises my religion, I can confidently tell them that what they're saying has no quranic origins, they're man made stories invented by people in power to divert and control the masses, and show them the correct ruling. Now most people i know have a totally different view on the religion, and they can now finally see why it is called the religion of peace, and not the religion of fairytales consisting of a 1400 year old game of barbaric chinese whispers.

Shi'a? To be honest, even though I now only uphold Qur'an alone (and also believe in other God's revelations to previous Messengers), I am still having curiosity about Shi'a. I want to hear from a former Shi'a about marriage and divorce and women's dignity in Shi'a.
I am a former Sunni. Sunnism has four classical and famous schools? Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanafi, Hanbali? and other subsects of Sunnism such as Salafi, Deobandi etc. I was born a Shafi'i Sunni. Ever since I was 15, I had been confused about which sect /belief in Islam that is the true one.
According to Sunnism, a man can simply divorce his wife by pronouncing the talaq pronouncement. A husband can just say "I divorce you" to divorce his wife. If the husband pronounces it 3 times to his wife and on the spot, the divorce is equal to 3-time-real divorce even though the couple have never divorced before. Yes, it is true that Qur'an says a man cannot marry the woman whom he has divorced 3 times unless she has married another man but Qur'an doesn't equate the divorce with instant pronouncement. This talaq pronouncement is also valid using letters, SMS, emails etc according to Sunnism. The Sunni divorce law proves that women are put so low in Sunnism.
As far as I know, Shi'a does not have this kind of divorce, right? Yeah I know some Shia school accepts mut'a marriage but at least Shi'a doesn't degrade women that way, I guess.

I also don't understand why women must cover their faces, hair. They think women are sexual objects that must be covered because women are shameful? Women are humans!
Yes, the Sharia law is barbaric. How can apostates be killed? I am an apostate of Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama'a (ASWJ) so according to ASWJ, my blood is halal. In ASWJ, apostates' bloods are halal to be killed. & What about apostasy in Shi'a?
