    Salam,

I'm a revert to Islam and I have a seven year old son. I'm interested in finding out which children's materials are appropriate for people who have a different (not the most specific adjective, but it is the least offensive) interpretation of Islam.

I don't know enough about the deen to be able to use what is out there and reteach the ideas that have been misinterpreted. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Peace,
    Kerstin

P.S. English is my first language, but I would also be able to use materials in Spanish or French. My Arabic isn't nearly where it needs to be for me to use it as a medium for teaching, but I'm working on it. I also live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so being able to access any materials that are suggested is important. Thanks again.

      Salam Kerstin,

I also have a seven year old son!

What would you think about learning and searching for yourself first. What you really understand in your heart will naturally flow into your education.

I have two children and live in a traditional islamic society. My kids, although in French school, have some local teachers for arabic language and (what they call) islam and I must admit that most times , when shocked, my 11 year old girl just comes to me for rectifications... For example, her teacher once said that anybody who doesn't do the traditionnal salat 5 times a day would go straight to hell... roll

I sure use these occasions for rectifying the view of deen and allah, but believe more in trying to be an example through my way of life than teaching through books.

      Bye, Elke

Do you know a popular example in the maghreb which says

          Someone is asked
What do you know about the God's system?

          He/she answers
I can add things in it.
          lol

Why just limit that to Meghre? My dad does that all the time. Just the other day he says it is written in the Quran, that when we eat you should not lift your index finger away from your food before it reches your mouth!
