Greetings all and peace,
I was on this board awhile ago under a user name I've since forgotten, so I can't log in with it, but this board really changed the way I viewed Islam and the Quran. I once truly believed Islam must be extreme and anti-western, but now I know it isn't.
I've struggled against it for a long time and tried to find any reason I could not to, but I'm embracing Quran-based Islam.
It is going to be a big step for me, but I'm stepping forward in belief, trusting in good things for me.
And now may God hear as I do this. I don't claim to know everything, but I'm stepping forward in faith God knows what I do, and I also ask for your prayers, support, and fellowship. I will be on frequently now. May this be my profession of Islam
I confess there is no god besides, and none worthy of worship except Allah. I confess that Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, and all messengers are the messengers and apostles of God. I take Monotheism as my religion. I profess the Quran as my guide, and pray for God's help in understanding it and furthering my understanding of the Bible as well, since I was raised with it.
Now I hope to see you all often and discuss together. Please pray for my success in my path.

Extremes in anything can be less than positive. May ALLAH see fit to Guard us against extremes in ourselves and extremes in others.
If you feel like it, find some of your old posts...your understanding has probably shifted considerably. It may be interesting for you to take a glimpse at your old self--and perhaps update the posts if you feel like it.
May ALLAH see fit to Guide all seekers.

Do you mean 'Qur'an-based Islam'? Or the word 'Allah' or 'Salaam'?
The word Allah. Because people who often use Allah (except while speaking Arabic) are just making Islam look like it is having a cult-god like other folk religions do.

I understand completely where you are coming from Yosef. I live in south Alabama and Islam always seemed anti-western to me growing up. I wholeheartedly and sincerely followed the bible. There are many things that I will continue to use from my Christian days, but most of all now I follow monotheism and profess as well about all the prophets. God alone is great and God alone guides my heart. I was shocked when I was praying for more of God's guidance and God brought me to Islam. At first, I was overwhelmed with all the information out there. I wanted to give up, but I knew that God would guide my heart. I also follow only the Quran. I studied the bible in its original Hebrew and Greek form with concordances for translation. There were many things that I questioned and prayed to God for guidance. I especially could not believe how I overlooked Jesus' words in the bible for so many years. He plainly says that he was a prophet of God and that God is greater than he. I pray that your heart can be guided alone by God. This forum has helped me meet other people who have the sort of the same thought process. It is very difficult to meet people that have such an in depth understanding of God, especially in south Alabama. I pray peace and blessings for you. May God guide us all.

Welcome back to the forum. I am glad that you have seen the Light in all the fog around you. Now do not complicate the Message of God and serve Him without bringing in a whole science of conjecture to make God's creed awkward.
I profess the Quran as my guide, and pray for God's help in understanding it and furthering my understanding of the Bible as well, since I was raised with it.
There is much Wisdom in the Bible even if it is not inspired words in the same manner as 'the Book' (al-Qur'an). Do not get too hooked up on the details and primarily get the main Message and know that the texts in the Bible are very old and from ancient Hebrew (OT) and thus probably do not portray the original meaning all the time, not to mention I doubt that the original original, so to say, was written in Hebrew but rather in hieroglyphs.
Philosophically and logically speaking; the Criterion (al-furqan) was likely not written in ancient Hebrew considered its age but must likely have been written down in hieroglyphs. The remnants of the texts inscribed in stone remain (partially distorted) in the Bible's Old Testament. You cannot word-by-word follow what is written there but must apply logic or risk being misled. It is however relatively simple to extract the Criterion from the Old Testament and then confirm in in 'the Book' (al-Qur'an). The Criterion is basically the same as in the Bible and all "Muslim" hadith and information is thus conjecture much like all the conjecture you find in Christianity, Zoroastrianism and Judaism today. There is not much difference in this list compared to what 'the Book' teaches
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.- You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ?
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.
The only disputed line is the Sabbath which I have suspicions of that it should still be kept although my current understanding of 'the Book' cannot confirm this. But as you see if you read 'the Book' the rest of the list is just as intact as the Criterion that Moses received from God with the Covenant thus since then.
You can see that God's Message is much the same from start to finish. You have the list above, but you can practically summarize that into Do not (-2) commit evil but (2) do good and (1) believe in God alone. Anyone righteous in the world can see right from wrong without seeing any scripture. You see how simple this list is, it is a narrowed down version of what is written in the Criterion, but I cannot think that it was more than this that Moses received from God on that mountain.
- This rule is to not say about God what you do not know, like inventing conjecture and only guess God's will.
I was a labeled Christian before I adopted 'the Book' in 2009 where it confirmed what I already believed in and I got a better view of all the Messengers that had come over the lapse of time. Worth noticing is that I was a Unitarian Christian since I denied the belief in Jesus as the son of God and part of a trinity. I never accepted this and that is why I did not actively associate myself with the church, but like a blessing God enlightened me anyhow towards the Light. As of today there is not much difference in my Faith system from when I was Christian except that I am far more enlightened about the Truth and I have had my Faith confirmed.

Don't mind other people's use of words so much. Focus on the message and meaning of what people write, and let's not get stuck up on the details. Live and let live. Relax and let love in. There is lots that we don't understand... all of us. We have different levels of insight into things, and nobody is better than anyone else.
