Peace be upon you Brother Fazl,

Nabi and rasools Did they not live and lead by being examples themselves?

Yes, and so should we. I agree.

      Peace be upon you MZ,

      I allways thought

Rasool one who recieves ( by inspiration or otherwise)and spreads the message.

Prophet or Nabi who just spreads the message which has passed to him from a Rasool or an intermediatory.

Is this right ,if not where does it say otherwise?

You have to be given the "book" before you can start to spread the message. Look at the verses that state how Prophets are given the "book".

        Salaams idol,
then again you might be right, but please try proving it.

According to them ayats it was the Messengers (But please note a Messenger is a prophet as well) who recieved the Messages and not who where just prophets .

Just prophets, don't recieve Messages but just spread the Message allready present because of the past Messenger-i think.

        040.070
YUSUFALI Those who reject the Book and the (revelations) with which We sent our messengers but soon shall they know,-
        013.038
YUSUFALI We did send messengers before thee, and appointed for them wives and children and it was never the part of a messenger to bring a sign except as Allah permitted (or commanded). For each period is a Book (revealed).

        004.136
YUSUFALI O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.

        041.044
YUSUFALI Had We sent this as a Qur'an (in the language) other than Arabic, they would have said "Why are not its verses explained in detail? What! (a Book) not in Arabic and (a Messenger an Arab?" Say "It is a Guide and a Healing to those who believe; and for those who believe not, there is a deafness in their ears, and it is blindness in their (eyes) They are (as it were) being called from a place far distant!"

        Thanks.

A Messenger is a prophet as well who recieved the Messages and not who where just prophets.

There is no quranic reference for this. If you have one please inform me.

Just prophets, don't recieve Messages but just spread the Message allready present because of the past Messenger-i think.

It was never the part of a messenger to bring a sign except as Allah permitted. For each period is a Book.

The prophets alone bring the Book and with it the "signs" to vouch for the Book. They also served as messengers. But the messengers were never the prophets. The messengers lived the way of the Book that the prophets delivered and stand as a model for their community following their prophets who were messengers too.

          004.136
O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before. Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.

Every Prophet in this way, delivered the Book and lived as models before their community with the "signs" allah had given them to swear by the Book. All the prophets thus lived as messengers too.

            Salaams Doc,
there is no clear cut verse indicating either theory , but as you can see i quoted three ayats ,may be you can quote something like this.or may be firther clearer proof for what you say.

            Salaams.

              Peace be upon you MZ,

Thank you for the challenge. Just responding so you know I am aware of the verses you presented. I want to take my time answering this. I should have a response by the end of today, unless the God wills.

Muhammad is no more than a messenger many such Were the messenger that passed away before him.

Was muhammad a messenger first? Or prophet first? Are you not seeing the prophets were to function as messengers essentially?

                thanks.

                  Salaams Doc,
i think they merely expounded the message recieved by the messenger, unless the person concerned was a messenger and a prophet.

Brother of Moses Allah says he was a prophet - what Message has he recieved from Allah , i beleive /think he merely relayed the Message recieved by Moses - check it please.

Vereas the Messengeres where always ,always given a message/a book or something.

                  Thanks,Salaams.

Allah says He had not sent down in the Book about many messengers and prophets. Please say an answer to my posting so that you may eventually get clarified, trying to answer the question.

                    The prophets were messengers too.

                      Salaams Doc,
Don't you need a message to explain it ,expound it ,reveal it to peopleso you need a Messenger who has recieved a Message from Allah which then by being a prophet you prophesise ,proffess, explain e.t.c

                      I think.

                      019.051
YUSUFALI Also mention in the Book (the story of) Moses for he was specially chosen, and he was a messenger (and) a prophet.
                      019.053
YUSUFALI And, out of Our Mercy, We gave him his brother Aaron, a prophet (an expounder).

Look at this first ayat is Moses a Messenger first or a prophet .

Secondly that his brother is merely there to expound the message of the Messenger(i.e Of Moses).

                      Salaams.
