on one of the threads here in the forum the topic of does the Quran need a dictionary to be understood, another subject of importance came up.
the subject was " Salat" and if that word meant prayer.
if one looks into the word in the Quran one sense that prayer and "DUA" are very similar,to implore of Allah or to Ask of him (prayer).
at the same time one can also Argue that "salat" is a totally different thing all together.
we could of course state the differences .

    under salat we find.
there is a timing ,needs "wudu" ,can only be performed twice a day "day ends",done with "sujud" which means(closing the eyes) ,done with "roku3" which means (stationary in a seated position be it on your knees or not).should be performed for a length of time at a time(from sun set till its starts to get dark, and from when light breaks till the sun starts coming up). only in certain situations you can shorten it.
does not need to be hidden or declared.

    as for " Dua"or prayer
can be done at any time ,
    does not need wudu,
can be performed in any situation ,encouraged to be done for longer periods of the night ,regardless of where you are ,in bed or sitting down.can even be done as one is moving.
is a way of communication with the creator and asking him.
is often done after "salat" and at night.
needs to be vocal ,regardless if it was inward or outward .Allah is close he hears us any ways.
A lot of examples in Quran for "Dua" or prayer.

please let me know what you think .
we are all researching here, different people see things differently there can be no one right answer.
    peace.

Well, I am gathering all sources of information I could possibly find in regards to learning classical Arabic, learning roots of words and such and become a professor at it so to speak. In regards to the word salat, translators always seem to put the word contact before prayer. From an educated guess, I think it just means contact. So when we establish contact/connection with god, it is known as a prayer, when god establishes a connection/contact with us, it could be deemed as supporting us. But yes, you and I are not the only ones. Khanzeer also has more meanings than pig, and there's strong evidence to suggest lahm khanzeer actually means 'rotten meat' rather than pig meat?

yes true i find it interesting that there is a possibility to really get to words from the Quran.
my basic Question would be ,can we rely on other sources regardless of what they are?
would that open a door to misunderstanding what is meant in the Quran?
root words are important but sometimes we might mistake one root for another.
i am trying to look at some thing else here as well.
sometimes words end with certain prefixes and suffix ,and some times they start with that.
now if we look at those words with similarities would that give us a clue at the intention.
please i know you can look this up but i would only encourage Quranic passages and nothing else to be taken into consideration.
let me give you an example.
the word Ramadan is only found once in the Quran.
i am sure there is a meaning for it there in the Quran besides being one of the Hurum months.
can you find out a way we can get a closer look at this word from the Quran with out out side sources.
        peace.

There is not strong evidence at all. The only "evidence" I am aware of is the one where the Arabic used in Quran is made an exception, see

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

some might look at this subject as interesting a potential new understanding and some might argue that this is completely irrelevant.
i would personally think it is interesting as well.
as for khinzeer if it means pig or if it means rotten i need to try to find more information about this from the Quran ,i would suggest looking up the meaning of the word Hurim as well from the Qurani context and not the dictionary.
the subject of the thread though is "salat" and DUA or prayer and would like to stick to it so that we might get as many input on this as possible.

please don't miss understand me,in no way i am saying that the way people choose to pray is wrong.
man is free and Allah has given him this freedom.and in no way any one really judge some one else.
i just right this for that is how i see things, and would like to share my opinion, it is just a thought.
can any one look at what has been said and verify or refuse, just need another opinion ,please refer to the quran for that is what we are studying.
                peace to all

in the Arabic, it says Lahm Al Khanzeer, Al is a definite article, so it refers to an entity, not an object... if it was rotten, it would use the adjective, mukhanzar...

as for the entity is the animal pig whose meat is forbidden to believers...

excuse my typos .i realized that i have a lot of them.
as for khinzeer as a lot of words from teh quran it might have a different meaning than we might of thought it did.
and that is what i meant when i said that the book does change.some times our understanding of really go through evolution.
that does not mean that some one else s understanding of it is wrong.but we do need to keep an open mind for who ever can will see more.
                    peace.
