    peace be upon you,

traditionally this is mostly interpretated as "in" (which is really "fee") or sometimes "by" (which I believe is inda) and sometimes "with" which is the real translation, this may seem like a miniscule topic but we are told to have trust/security (eiman) "bi" The God, the ending day/time, the controllers, the messengers, and the books so clearing up the true definition of this word is important

      Salam Idris,

I think that it may be important first to look at the english words and compare meanings

By can mean two things that I can think of

1- I live BY the School. Here BY and INDA can be interchanged.
2- He was taken BY force. You can never use INDA here and you will need to use BI.

With can mean two things as well, or more

1- I went to school With my friend. You cannot use BI here. You will have to use MAAa.
2- I planted the tree With my hands. You can use BI here.

So the BI can mean (BY means of) whether you use With or BY. It cannot be used as an association. BI can also be used to mean IN, in a somwhat interchangeable manner with FI. For example

1- I live in the house. BI or FI can be used
2- I am playing in the field. You can use BI or FI

I hope this helps some. However, BI definitely can be used in association with something physical or non physical.

      I hope this helps

      Salam

      Hussein

        Salaams idris,Latif,
Strange Latif you only see such limited meanings .
Although i am not an expert in any sense of the word , i do consider dictionaries such as the quranic Dictionary to be very detailed , but of course thats when there thoughts and mine agree.

        According to them

        Bapage 40 of QD.

An inseperable preposition With the help ofDuringForByOn account ofAccording toInFrome.t.c

And Lanes i beleive agreess on most of these word.

        Salaams.

          Peace Idris,

I agree. This understanding removes the need for guesswork and conjection.

            Salam all,

I like the wider meanings that MZ357 introduced from Lane. I do appreciate it.
