Hi all,
As a convert to Islam (from first non-practising christian, afterwards atheist) - I discovered many issues in the translation of the Quran I had. This gave me many sleepless nights until I read more about the distortion of it by Hadith & sunnah. Luckily I didnt go to a sunni mosk when I converted, or I would have had more work to undo the conditioning. My knowledge of Quran comes from self-study and internet resources. It was a big relief for me to find out I wasnt alone and there is an entire movement sharing similar ideas. This is why I registered here and I hope we can enrich eachother.
Peace to all,
rlz

Greetings.
Your story is similar to my own.
I too come from a non-muslim background.
You are quite correct in that we don't have the drawback of de-conditioning ourselves as much.
This site is wonderful. I don't post very much yet as I'm trying to soak up lots of things. There is much wisdom here.
Congratulations on your conversion to the straight path.
Best wishes. -
Peace,
Welcome to the forum.
God bless you

Welcome.
You are in a good place.
This is the best place for any who are disillusioned by Islam - or what passes for it nowadays, I think.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. Just to clarify, I was never disillusioned by Islam itself. However I got confronted with statements of scholars, clerics (sunnism) that I found incompatible with what Quran says. I'm no longer personally conflicted on this matter. One of the first advices I got after converting to Islam was "never confuse the behaviour of followers of Islam with Islam itself". That advice has been very valuable to me. I'm sure even on this forum there is disagreement, but that's okay.

Peace on you

Hello,
Congratulations! Welcome to path of the truth.
3030
So keep your face set enquiringly towards the religion, God?s natural handiwork along which lines He has patterned mankind. There is no way to alter God?s creation. That is the correct religion, though most men do not realize it.I often remind the verse of 3030 to people who begin to intellectual debate about their religion and belief. I suggest you NOT to taking any muslim scholar and traditional islamic knowledge into account seriously. You and your mind, nothing else.

I highly recommend this site for translations to compare. Very good source for line to line comparison.
It seems you are aware of that being like an Arab and "Surrendering to God" are totally different things.
Peace.
