On the other hand, if the need is so acute, why stop at four? Of course there is no stop at four, it says two, three or any number that you are able to arrange,...

This can't be right. Surely it does say 'up to 4'.

Or why not be content with one. In my opinion one is hard enough.

The point is that it does ot say that the same man marries those women. It is preposterous to take it that way. It is the collectiity that it is addressing and it is the need of the women and their children which is being addressed. It is not distributing women amongst the men, but saying that if there are four ready to marry four women or any number of those needy that it is good but that if it is possible only one, just one. The referent is the women not how many of them should marry ONE man, but how many women can be married to any men. It is the whole group of men that are addressed as part of that community. It is not allowing to marry a single man more than one woman nor it is disallowing it. It is speaking about the women with children and that they should be looked after and not about how many women can a can marry, that is immaterial because at any rate we have the other injundtion in the Qur'an to marry the single, not those who have alreayd a spouse.

                Salaam

Right. But my translation (Monothesit group 200 as well as saying 'if you deem it best for the orphans...' says 'up to four'. Every other translation I have read, I believe, puts the limit at FOUR. Are you saying your translation (or the way you understand it if you are an arabic speaker) mentions no limit? This would be something quite new!

Why should there be a limit to the number of marriages that can be arranged by the people if there are more than four mothers of orphans.

You are stuck, it seems, in thinking that it is speaking about the number of wives a man can marry, but that is not so, it is about mothers of orphans not about the number of women a man can marry of a go. Nob ody can marry several spouses at the same time. It is either one or the other, but no more than one at the same time. And what the Qur'an says is in twos in threes or in fours. And it is so obvious that traditional fiqh has never allowed marrying more than one woman at the same time. A man might have more thna one wife but he should marry them one by one, not more than one of a go. How on earth can a man see wheter he can cope with one wife well enough to go and marry four at the same time. It is proposterous. And again, the speech is addressed to the community, all the men of the communite are addressed as potential husbands to those two three or four women that should be married at the same time. It is ridiculous and hard to understand that someone would think that it is addressed to each individual man to say that he can marry two or four or three. Poligamytis seesm to be a disease hard to get rid off.

                    Salaam

please explain to me the true meaning of masna wa sulasa wa ruba in the above verse. and also ma malakat emanukum?
I have strong reservation with the traditional translations.
I shall then explain my own research inshahallah on this topic.

Mathnaa, thulaatha, rubaa3 are two, three or four of a go, that is in twos in threes or in fours. That is the kind of arranged marriage like the collective ones that took place in Gaza some time ago and which were circulated in the net saying that in Gaza they were arrying child girls, which was not so, but nevertheless the slander was circulated, but in fact were marriages of women with orphans whose marriage was arranged by the community for them and the child girls of the photo were in fact the orphan girls of the women who were geting married and the men with the children were the would be husbands.

As to the mamalakat, those are persons, males or females, in charge of other people and who are tied to their protectors by some solmen oath or pact of mutual allegiance, be it as servants, be it as protected people, be it as a husband or wife without dower. Dependent people to some effect.
