    Peace all,

I have received the following request from brother Saleem who is now affiliated with the 'new' Signs Magazine.

    SIGNS INTERNATIONAL

Signs magazine was established in 1993 by the Siganture organization to disseminate information about Islam. However, it was unique in the respect that it was the only magazine in English, which covered all aspects of Islam from a Quranic perspective. People who have read the Quran will understand the significance of this. During its publication it became to represent a progressive viewpoint covering stimulating and often controversial topics. In whatever way people perceived it, it was without doubt thought provoking and stoked much debate amongst its readers.

It was then banned in many countries but it never deterred it readers from obtaining copies by various means. Then 12 mullahs from 12 mosques met and made a fatwa against it and its printers. They must have danced (or wished they could) in delight when the publication ceased in 2001, thinking it was their action, which forced Signs magazine to close. Little did they know that it was circumstances, though coincidental but entirely unconnected, that were the real cause.

Now, Signs is now to be re-launched in June 2005. It will have a new look, the design will reflect it maturity into a new era. The focus will be on current affairs, comment and views of what is happening in the world today. Instead of just observing and reporting, Signs will actively promote pristine Quranic values while exposing the embellishments that have accumulated around Islam.

Its readers will still include prominent and influential politicians and business people as well as people from all walks of life. In fact all people who think and question will want to read Signs. It will continue to reach parts of the world where the thirst for the Din of Islam is unquenched.

As mentioned, Signs Magazine is to launched in June 2005 and we are inviting writers to submit articles for possible publication.

If you would like to write for Signs magazine please contact us by email in the first instance for details.

      Cont...

      SIGNS

Some guidelines when submitting articles for Signs magazine.

Signs magazine is seeking articles written from a Quranic perspective. Writers should ensure that their work reflects this at all times. This does not however, mean that quotes from the Quran are required in every article. Where specific reference is made then chapter and verse must be provided. Where your personal view or comment is made, then this should be made clear.

If you can provide pictures, photographs, diagrams, maps or any illustration relevant to your subject, please do so. All subjects will be considered, especially ones that cover current events.

Articles supply as .txt files. Illustrations supply as jpeg files.

Articles on the following subjects are especially invited

      • Turkey?s application to join the EU. 5,000 words. This must be a detailed analysis. With views and comments by both sides.

      • Tsunami disaster. 5,000 words. Was God to Blame? Does God exist? Is the aid getting to the people most in need? Could warnings have been given, reducing the cost in human lives?

      • Why is there little sign of animals that may have died?

      • Also take the following into consideration Global warming, recent weather changes. Are humans as custodians of the earth to blame?

      • The Swastika. In January Prince Harry was wearing a swastika costume at a party. What is the history of the Swastika? Is this a religious symbol or a sign of oppression? How did the Nazi party in Germany come to use it?

      • Licensing reforms in Scotland to create 24-hour pub opening culture. Intoxicants, crime, accidents, driving. All these are important things to discuss.

      • The tourist board wants to encourage gays to visit Britain (website Visit Britain). An opportunity to talk about homosexuality and its place in society. History in the Bible and what the Quran says. Also write about the supposed medical aspects.

      • James Murray Wellls of (glassesdirect.com) discovered that Opticians ?are seeing profits of 1,000pc on a pair of glasses?. So he started his own company selling cut-price spectacles.

      • This is evidence of ?profiteering? by the big companies and unethical trading of a necessary item.

      • Yasmin. A drama on C4 on 13 Jan 05. Tells the story of a young woman whose relationship with friends, colleagues and the authorities changed overnight after 9/11. Did anyone really experience this? We would like to know.

      • Surrogate children babies born to be given away. Is it right for women to have babies and sell them?

      • Can women work and look after their children. How does it affect their relationship with them? Should they work even when their children are young?

      • Should men and women assume complimentary roles?

      • Questions? Pose a short question and answer it in about a hundred words.

      • Dispatches. A short article of not more than 1,000 words about an event or occasion in your area.

          Peace Layth n all,

          A couple of questions...

          1. Any chance of getting an ad in? For www.Free-minds.org and/or 'The Message'/'The Natural Republic'

          2. Even though the focus is on current events... is there some space for some of the articles we already have on FM, e.g. why do muslims lose?

          3. How can one obtain this magazine, when it's re-launched in June?

            peace Joe, Zein, all,

I dont remember what the old address was, or if its still available, sorry. I am in the process of acquiring the content of the previous site however.

            1. Any chance of getting an ad in? For www.Free-minds.org and/or 'The Message'/'The Natural Republic'

Books can be reviewed (about 500 words).

            1. Even though the focus is on current events... is there some space for some of the articles we already have on FM, e.g. why do muslims lose?

Preference will be given to current issues, but that doesn't rule out such articles.

            1. How can one obtain this magazine, when it's re-launched in June?

By subscription, can be sent internationally (details to follow).

                          Salam,

No, the relaunch did not happen as I understand that some of the people involved did not follow-through on their commitments.

However, it is my understanding that the magazine may be relaunched on-line (as a pdf) and done quarterly at first.

                            Salam,

Does anyone have an update on this project's revival, or is it dead in the water - (Wakas)?

The recent "Interview with Prophet Mohammed" post reminded me of this magazine as that is where I recall seeing the article years ago.
