    Hi all,

I was thinking about the vers "you are forbidden for me like the back of my mother" cause i think it is not meant sexually,i guess the People of this area used to be half naked and it was not allowed to put your arms around your mother.

Why i came to this idea is because of the vers 3359 is talking about covering the upperbody and not the head.

Some tribes today are still half naked or wholy naked

from where do you get the upper body bit. I do not find it specifies any part of the body either one way or the other, and certainly it is referring to the clothes worn at that time and pace, that is, fashion, and it is also referring to a particular specific circumstance of harassment amongst other things.

      Salaam

And what clothes did the pre-scriptured arabs worn at that time?

An Environment which worshipped Godess of furtility are imitating the picture of their god which they have.

This is the semitic godess Ishtar which the arabs probably also knew

And are the upright lionesses or horses or whatever they are also part of the attire of the women of Arabia at the time of revelation of Qur'an? I think it is a really far fetched ossibility that women of that time and place wore this or that, or that went naked. Fashin is aobut the fastest changing thing in human culture. also a depiction mens nothing. There are also the nude painting, most famous by Goya, of certain haigh society's ladies, to deduct from htat thatt they went around naked would be an enormous mistakes. By logic itself godesses are not women or common women, but complete exceptions and their attire depends ont he advocation, what they stand for or symbolize. Gret mistake too to adjudicate that they represent any common woman.

At any rate I continue without seeing any connection of this with aya 33.59. The aya does not give much hint abut what kind of dressing habits they had, the only thing that stands clear is that whatever it is advised is for the purpose of making them clearly distiguisable from other kind of women who the hypocrites et al might feel entitled to harass because of the way they dressed, whatever that way was.

That is, the aya is not there for the purpose of giving any instructions about a "halal" way fo dressing but to a way of dressing that would make void the excuse of the enemies to harass them on account that they could not distinguish them.

          Salaam

I see my mistake thanks huruf

But their is this ayat talking about their nakedness at some specific times

2458"O you who believe, let those who are maintained by your oaths, and those who have attained puberty, request your permission regarding three times before the dawn contact prayer, and when you put off your garments from the noon time, and after the evening contact prayer. These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not wrong for you or them to intermingle with one another. God thus clarifies the revelations for you. And God is Knowledgeable, Wise."

            Some seem to rest naked
