    Salam,

Until such time we are able to create 'a life or a living thing' from nothingness as does Allah create from every living organism to man, from heavens down to earth, your logic is - illusion; and your science and scientific inventions are - nothing but black magic having no creative life force in it.

    Salamun Alaikum.

Our (human beings) ability to use reason and logic to understand concepts sets us apart from the beasts in the jungle who do not understand. This God-gifted faculty is probably our greatest gift from our Master. The sense of right and wrong that our Master has given us - the ability to discern truth vs falsehood that He has equipped us with is His direct signature that each of us carry within us. Any assumption - any message - any book that we come across - even the Qur'an must be evaluated in light of our "Understanding" (A'ql) - the ability to use reason.

275 Do you hope that they will have faith in you ? while certainly a group of them happens to hear Allah?s words (and) later they distort it from after what they understand of it ? while they know?
    ?

2164 Indeed, in the designing of the heavens and the earth; and the alternation of the night and the daylight; and the ships which flow in the sea with what benefits mankind; and what Allah has sent down from the sky from water then enlivening the earth with it after its death ? and dispersing in it from every animal; and directing the winds and the clouds controlled between the sky and the earth ? surely are signs for understanding people.

    ?

2170 And when it is said to them, ?Follow what Allah has sent down?, they say, ?No! We follow what we found on it - our fathers, even though their fathers did not happen to understand anything, and nor were they guided.

2171 And example of those who repress (faith) is like (the) example of someone who shouts at (those) who cannot hear but calls and cries. Deaf, dumb, blind ? so, they would not understand.

2242 That?s how Allah makes His signs clear to you, so that you may understand.

    ?

822 Indeed the worst of the animals near Allah are the deaf, the dumb ? those who would not understand.

(My personal translation, cross checking is recommended. Emphasis added.)

Our conscience and intellect is our direct connection with Allah. Repressing our faith in the One who gave us these senses and running after imposed image of "God" - portrayed by "others" is in effect running after a deity (tagoot) - it doesn't matter whether that "deity" is worshipped as "One God" or "Allah" or multiple gods. That's why being monotheist does not help one if the one deity that the monotheist worships is not the Master of the Universe who gave us our reason and morality to navigate the course of life. Just look at the situation of ISIS and BokoHaram to see how such monotheists end up. Rather than being a monotheist running after one deity based on interpretation of others, we need to be submissive (muslim) to Allah - who gave us the gift of life and gave us all the necessary senses to live this life - the universal gifts to mankind. Shutting up human reason and logic to run after some imaginary "god" in some holy scripture - is like hanging up on direct phone line with your boss to refer to some old memo that the same boss supposedly issued.

The gifts of human reasoning and logic - the outputs that are often called the gifts of "science" - are in turn gifts from our Master. The smart phone, the computer, the internet, the automobiles, the life-saving drugs - are no less gifts of Allah to humans than the bird's nest is a gift of Allah to the bird. Failure to understand the all-encompassing mercy of God - to equate God/Allah to "mother nature" is a distorted and fragmented understanding of Allah.

May Allah guide us all to the straight route.

    Regards,
    Arman

Conscience is totally subjective - The Sign of Allah
Intellect is absolutely objective - The Science of man

Quran has in it subjectivity raised high above the objective science of humans. Both are antagonistic to each other. Whereas the signs are the Truth from Allah to be discerned through the 'Furqan' the criterion, the science is far, far below to it. The science of Fir'aun is drowned by the Sign of Allah when he cleaved the ocean into mountainous two parts with a dry passage between them for the people of Musa to witness it; and as believers in the Signs of Allah we are witnesses to it too. Man's intellect cannot reason to this event or give logical conclusion using their science. Allah brings life from the dead and the dead from the living and it was demonstrated by Esa, son of Maryam; the 'Brain Dead' science cannot understand with its logics, concepts and phylosophies.

The use of the inner eye - having the insight makes a man a believer in the Unseen abstract Superior Power above us. With reason and logic using your intellect you cannot attain this belief without using the Furqan, the insight. Allah calls those who use their objective sight as blind; and those who hear to and believe such objectivity as deaf; and all that they speak of the objective goals are merely dumb.

"The blind and those who have insight are not equal. 7/64 They were a community blind; 10/43 There are people who see you but you cannot make see those who are blind; 11/24 The two groups are not equals as parables those who are blind and deaf; and those who have insight and who have ability to lend their ears to the inner voice."

20.124 But he who turns a blind eye to My remembrance, his will be a narrow life, and I shall bring him blind on the Day of Resurrection. 20/125 He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was seeing?"

      May Allah Guide Us All.

Just for your information on the second question. You talked about advanced countries and that they do not follow the message. These countries are following the message of Quran much better than the countries you speak of who call themselves by the label Muslim. It is part of the reason behind their advancements.

In later years the same countries have begun to be ripped apart from what they were previously standing for and hence you have seen the negative trend too. Fixation on sex, exposed clothing and overall socially colder countries.

People often tend to conpletely miss the point with what Allah teaches in the scripture called Quran, about love and care for our fellow humans and to be fair and sound in judgment and thus do good and behave well.

The truth is that only one wife is what is taught by God; "for a man is not born with two hearts".

        Be of one with God

Except for some, those countries follow the message but they dont know the messages but at least they are following. I see average Americans utter God's name more than the average Muslims. You can see different polls that shows at least 70% of Americans pray at least daily.

          Spiritual harmony be upon you,

You can utter God's name any amount of times and it will not make any difference if your deeds and behavior do not speak for it.

I could utter God's spirit once in the morning and then do a lot of goodly deeds throughout the day until it is time to retire for the day and I have done a much better service than the man who repeatedly said God/Allah throughout the day without getting much done in terms of deeds and behavior.

          Be of one with "God"

Respectfully disagree to the above. Our conscience and our objectivity are both gifts from the same One God af if opposite sides of the same coin.

The signs of Allah are the source of the science of man. Everyday Allah is revealing new signs and humans are making new discoveries. Men observe the signs in outside world, apply his reasoning and comes up with what we call science. Had Moses parted the see today - our geologists would have a new "natural phenomenon" to explore. Had Moses thrown his stuff to make snake today - our biologists would see a new species of snake that turns into a stick when it hibernates. If Jesus were born in a hospital - physicians would write the scientific genesis of a virgin birth - God's signs are not meant to defeat the knowledge of men - Gods signs are there to increase it. There is nothing antagonistic between the two.

May Allah guide us to the straight route.

Our conscience and our objectivity are both gifts from the same One God af if opposite sides of the same coin.

God did not create coin; God created foods and the governments hoarded it grabbing them away from the reach of the people and then invented coin made the God created foods as purchasable commodities. When man's life itself is precious and priceless, can the food that gives life to the priceless life of man be sold for a price that man cannot afford and die? God did not create coin; God created life and the foods for it; Shaitan created the coin for the food. Head of the coin is shaitan; and the tail of the coin is food for money.

The signs of Allah are the source of the science of man.

The Signs of Allah reveals that what He creates is full of life force and they live by themselves and this Truth is strong source to dismiss that man's inventions and his science are nothing but dead and deadly things exhumed from the earth.

The Sign of Allah - He creates everything with water
The wretched science of man - a drop of water is enough to destroy all his inventions.

                  Salaam Bros n Sisters,

Its been a long time since I posted. As a rational monotheist Muslim, I am content that I follow a religion that is most logical and superior to all other beliefs on Earth. But then there are yet questions about Islam that bother me. These are questions that pop-up when discussing religion with people of other religions. I would be grateful if all of you here could provide your own views and responses.

                  Shukran.

                  Here are a few queries....

                  1. We usually discuss that the Holy Quran is very scientific, logical and one will not find any nonsense within it. But then we also have verses that discuss about King Solomon's time when he 'spoke' to the hoopoe bird and heard the ant; when 'jinns' did all kinds of magical stuff in daily life. Verses talk about the bad effects of black-magic, the evil-eye etc. all of which are truly unscientific.

Do not equate Quran with Science

Science is theoretical hypothesis to the material occurrences and materially existing things in the nature with a certain level of experimental orientation; for example we cannot create air but we talk so much of air and its elements, leave alone what we say about the water and food through our science knowledge. Allah asks us not to pursue about that which you have no wisdom (the absolute knowledge which if you possess you can become creator yourself; otherwise the knowledge or the science we possess should become a destructive force against the mankind!). Which of these two do we possess - wisdom of life or ever-defective science? Therefore it is time we stopped forthwith discussing Quran from the underdog scientific angle, as a prerogative. We are doomed.

                  salam

King Sulaiman and Dawood were taught to speak to all kinds of birds not to 'hoopoe' kind of bird alone. Likewise they knew the language of all kinds of ants too. These are among the signs of God; Further more Sulaiman was able to command the air and water; and brass was made to melt and run like water by his command while Dawood could speak and command the mountains. When God can communicate to everything in the heavens and in the earth and everything in between, what is the problem in understanding that God teaches the communication by His leave to some of His creations He had created -with a purpose? They are not unscientific; but the science is blind, deaf and dumb. The problem is science does not understand its weaknesses.

                      Salaam Bros n Sisters,

If Islam is the true word of God, why is there so much chaos, suffering and hatred in the Muslim world? If we explain that this is because average Muslims do not follow the real word of God from the Quran, then the Christian asks, why then did God reveal the Quran, if people ultimately did not follow it? What is the utility of the revelation when it is not used for society's benefits? Why is it that the world's most peaceful, techonologically advanced and democratic countries that give human freedoms are all nations that DO NOT follow the message of Islam?

                      Salam Haris,

They are not muslims in the first place for they overlooked the Principles of Quran 1. Take refuge in Allah from shaitan before entering Quran; 2. Never argue over the verses of Quran but exchange your views beautifully; 3. Allah alone shall deliver the Revelation from the Quranic Verses as to the guidance of each individual for, Allah alone is the Knower of All Things, the Wise. 4. Stay united as one community 5. Arguments will divide you 6. Only those who do not believe in the Signs of Quran will engage in arguments. 6. No one is pure 7. Allah grants of His Wisdom to whom He will 8. Fear Allah and fall from your pride before His Ayats 9. Allah is the judge and His is the Judgment. 10. Seek from Him to make you a Muslim. 11. Be Patient, Enduring, Persist in Forbearing in the Name of Allah.

Quran is the true word of God with its Signs of Authority. With regard to the Muslims the Quran says not to call you a muslim 2/128 until He makes you a muslim; and so seek from Allah to make you a Muslim. Whether you are a Muslim or not, it is in the judgment of Allah; but then the pseudo-muslims who call themselves the ones transgressed in that they regard the so called non-muslims as kafirs, jews, christians and hindus; they denounced that with Allah is the judgment about the people and the execution of His orders, these clergy pass fatwas on others while they claim them to be belonging to paradises of Allah 2/94,95. And it is these clergies that divided the one believing nation into innumerable segments and sections belying Quran 6/70.

"And forsake those who take their religion for a pastime and a jest, and whom the life of the world beguiles. Remind hereby lest a soul be destroyed by what it earns. It has beside Allah no protecting ally nor intercessor, and though it offers every compensation it will not be accepted from it. Those are they who perish by their own deserts. For them is drink of boiling water and a painful doom, because they rejected Quran."

Quran has been sent down not for the muslims but to make Muslims of the mankind; Quran has nothing to force one to be a Muslim but to plainly communicate with the mankind the Guidance, to help their lives through both the worlds. It is for the mankind to take it for their own good or turn away from it for their own peril. Allah is Just to those who turn to Him alone. Therefore the utility of Quran and its Signs are very much an availability till the end of the world, when by the decree of Allah the life of the mankind reaches its end in this world for the life in the final world.

In my view, we are all children of God, following a religion or not is a different matter, and will not change the fact that God created us and then bind us with laws of nature(science) which are in actual fact rules that govern humanity existence along with all of the things that come with it (art, science, good and bad etc etc).

It is clearly mentioned in Quran that (3372)
"Indeed, we offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant."

Again the above translation is not 100% reflection of the arabic words. In arabic, the verse meant (as explained by my non religious arabic friend) that those creations (heavens, earth and mountains) utterly reject to undertake the "amana". (means no way we are going to take this amana, God).
The word amana also needs to be understood in what sense is mentioned in the verse. What was this amana? Some refer to it as being Khalifa of God on earth, some meant Trust etc.

I believe that when mankind undertook the amana, that many things were set in motion. It is no back and white that we should see angels coming down from sky, we see that those who believe in God and follow, will be given the priority so it shall be so clear that whosoever prays and do all those things which God ask in any religion will have a perfect life and will stand out among other nations.

I believe the reverse is more likely to happen which is why we have all the doubts in our minds about Muslims of today's time being at the bottom and we ask to ourselves all the questions as to why? why the west?

I was talking to some of the arab friends and during the conversation i used the words we (for muslims) were at the height of all things during the spanish rule and I mentioned about the muslims whose inventions are known in science. One of my arab friend told me who ask you to use the word "we" pointing to the fact that am a non arab and my ancestors have nothing to do with those achievements. Moreover he clarified that it was not all arabs who reached to such height, because there were arabs living in what now is central saudi arabia and this area remained backwards even then.
The point being, we should not relate the advancements in science or any other fields(charity acts etc) to a religion. It is a matter between mankind as a whole and what God has given it (tools-mind, good and bad conscious, physical laws) to use and create.

In the end I would say , do not try to find answers to your doubts in the eyes of of religion (muslims vs others). Think out of the box please, believe in humanity and listen to your good consciousness as you do not need a religion to know what is good or not, or how to succeed in science and create inventions or how to do charitable acts etc. Religion to me is something else. This is another topic, however to make a point, religion is islam starts by asking the reader to believe in Ghaib (unseen), to believe in angels (I never saw one), to believe in all of the prophets (never encountered one in my life), believe in all of the books (not revealed in my time) and others.
                        verse (2285)
"The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, , "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the destination."

Therefore In my view the author of the original question should not mix two different things.

                        Cheers

God does not have children. And there are no religions but there is the path of righteousness well revealed in the conscience of every human; if one abides by his conscience, he is obeying the Rule of Allah and is bound by His Order, as a result of which the skies and the earth and everything in between bound to obey his wish, by His Will and Leave. This lawful obedience of man to Allah and in turn the nature's subservience its wilful obedience to man's wish is the Rule of His Kingdom. Man's science is dumb before the Rule of Allah. Human's mind is above science and it is a slave to him by His Ordainment.

The opinions should differ, we know.

                          salam.

                            Salaam brothers n sisters,

I was just reading Sura 29 and found this verse that clearly states the age of Noah...

We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them one thousand years, less fifty.

so difficult to use logic here.. does everyone actually accept the age of Noah as 950 years? Why blame Christians about the Bible having errors, when our Quran makes the same wild claims!

I was wondering if there is a possibility that the calendar year those days was different and thus 95 years lifespan of our time was considered as 950 years then? I mean... sheesh, there must be some way this verse can make sense without having to accept the obvious!

I'm prepared to believe any possible suggestions as long as you wouldn't say that a man lived from the beginning to the end of a millennium. I mean, just living 50 years in today's high-speed lifestyle is enough to make humans tired of life... what would a man living in a farming community do for a thousand years? Did God change our genetics a few generations ago? A piece of the puzzle is clearly missing here.

As of now I'm prepared to believe the Ahmadiyya understanding, which says that the period described in the Quran is the age of Noah's dispensation, extending until the time of Abraham (950 years). The first 50 years were the years of spiritual progress, which were followed by 900 years of spiritual deterioration of Noah's people.

                            Thanks.
                            Peace.

Quran at other places does mention the time in years for example The story of Ashab Kahf explained in a Kahf Quran
1825 And they remained in their cave for three hundred years, and increased by nine

So the years mentioned above and years mentioned for Noah seem like same type of years that is years which we know in our lives, unless explicitly mentioned by God as under

2247 And they seek you to hasten the retribution; and God will not break His promise. And a day with your Lord is like one thousand of the years which you count.

704 The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day which is equivalent to fifty thousand years.

The big flood must have changed and affected so much on the earth that it causes things to change including perhaps the average life span of the people.

In any case, if your criteria to believe in Quran is based only on your logic and confirmation of every verse as per your intelligence level, there where is the Faith? the faith is to believe in every word of Quran and then try to understand what you can and what you can not, pray to Lord to grant you wisdom to understand it one day.
This is the belief in unseen i guess... that I believe in quran is from my Lord and my Lord never lies.

                              Cheers

Hindus are quick to point out such verses to show that their outlandish mythologies of demons and gods on earth are comparatively the same in this regard. On what basis can one invite a rational polytheist/ disbeliever/ pagan/ athiest to 'believe' Islam when we have to ask him to accept our unbelievable stories, so as to leave behind his own illogical beliefs?

                                Salaam brother,

You quoted on the end of your post verse 22, I think that is the answer to your question.
Do you think you are from "al-muttaqeen"? If yes, then use the book as al-muttaqeen use it.
If no, then try to become one
Seriously this is the only way to acces the treasures of the book.
What you descibe above are explanations from people who are not from al-muttaqeen, they only guess and take the wrong explanation.

                                1. For whose benefit was the "final message" of the Quran revealed? For just a few individuals here and there who call themselves monotheists? What is the need for the message, when mankind is always attaining its ethical and moral goals through other sources?
We say the Bible is not truly the word of God, but contains conflicting messages. How is it that the adherents of the Bible, even today are the most blessed of all people, the most charitable and the most powerful? They have established schools, hospitals and orphanages across the world, with countless priests and nuns having dedicated their lives for the welfare of the needy. How many Muslims organisations are doing half of this work?

RED In a "Muslim" world there is no hatred, suffering and chaos.
I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

                                1. Something as basic as marriage..if it is allowed by God to have up to 4 wives for men, (assuming that one can be just and fair to each wife) why is it that the Prophet of Islam had upto 9 wives at the same time? Isn't the very messenger, breaking the message he preached? Isn't that hypocrisy?

See my answer to the first part.
RED We have to be very very veeeeery sure before we say something in the name of Allah.
Do you really think Allah allows this kind of immorality?
Allah forbids EVERY immorality, visible or hidden. It is really important to understand this.
People have written libraries to justify polygamy but in the end it is still immorality, there is no justification for immorality.

43 is not about polygamy nope

Any answers to these queries would really make life a lot easier.. Thank you so much for your time!

                                  Salaam Bender,
Thanks for the reply. Good thoughts. But just to point out to you a simple fact... just as you consider yourself as being 'al-muttaqeen' by blindly following the Quran, there are billions of other people blindly following their own scriptures (filled with half-truths and whole lies)... On what basis does one ascertain which book is the truth? Why would you reject the Old Testament and not the Quran? What is your criteria? The simple rule would be to follow the scripture that does not have any illogical nonsensical ideas in it and at the same time guides the follower towards the true Creator of the Universe. Any scripture that accepts evil or idolization of helpless human beings or teaches materialism or irrational thoughts would not fit the criteria.

As far as I am concerned, there is no historical book that reveals the truth better than the Quran. But there are still some verses that need clarification. Instead of just giving up the realities of the universe and not questioning, I would be at peace if these points were clearer.

Thank you for your time. Peace.

                                    Salaam Fusion,
Thank you for the reply. You seriously believe the Old Testament narration of the great flood, that Noah carried a pair of all types creatures that existed--millions upon the millions of different creatures that we find on Earth? No wonder the atheists are enjoying themselves making fun of religious people! Our beliefs make no sense then.

The Quran does not explain such fiction but only teaches that the people of Noah were destroyed by the flood for their sins. Thus it makes sense to believe that the flood was limited to the area of the red sea and did not affect the rest of the globe. The animals that Noah carried on his boat were his own sheep so as to stay alive during the time of the flood. If all of mankind had died during the flood, naturally we wouldn't see Chinese, Africans, Caucasians and Asians all so different from one another evolving over night.

                                    http//31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma1tdf3fud1r7qpeho1_500.jpg

With regards to the criteria to believe in the Quran, yes, I would absolutely wish to see rationality in the book of God because He is the One who created this universe based on logical laws of physics and science that He designed. Anything that we claim as a 'miracle' is just what has not yet been analyzed and explained by someone. Thus man walking on the moon might sound like a miracle until somebody explains the background procedure that went with it.

The only way an average human being can differentiate between falsehood and the truth, between all the millions of gods of various religions that existed over millennia is by seeking logical facts. I hope you agree.

                                    Peace.

                                      Peace harris.

While I agree with you about checking, searching,Scientifically investigating, making sense to what we read, see and hear...etc

I disagree that we will be able to solve everything? Why?

Simply because we are given a small part of the "knowledge"! We are restricted to this dimension and the knowledge given within its parameters. The universe is only part of what the Creator has . There is the "unseen"?

How can we ever understand beyond our field of vision, hearing and brain?

While we can explain some things to do with our universe/existence/life..How are we ever able to explain what we cannot even perceive?

Hence GOD s message to us!!!!!
                                      Do you believe in GOD?
Do you believe He sent a message?
Why do you believe Qoran? Is it from GOD?
How do you differentiate between GOD s word from men s word?
Do you believe that" others" understand Qoran better than you? Why?
Do you believe learning/understanding is a gradual process?
Do you believe that in the future we may change how we understand and what we understand now?

The reason I am asking you these questions is because Qoran gives us our answers.
Qoran also ask us to check everything {1736}.
Qoran also tells us there are certain things we will not be able to answer!!!! To believe GOD and His words .( If you believe>>&gt

However Qoran encourages us to seek knowledge. To try and check/ prove all things for ourselves so that we do not follow like sheep?

Of course we must keep searching and making sense of what is being said in Qoran and everything else, but we must prioritise. Not waste our time .

Sometimes our answer can be a simple "I do not know the answer at the moment" and move on,unless we have proof that what is being said is a lie/wrong...

If we are honest and open ,we can build our knowledge and seek the true knowledgeable Creator to try and understand His words and attain certainty about our beliefs even the ones we cannot explain in this life?!!.

                                      GOD bless you.
                                      Peace.

Many thanks to Good logic for explaining it so well to Harris. What I meant by logical understanding is that how can one define the logical explanation as it is subjective to the ability of the person. We define logic with respect to the things we know from our experience and in some case "Knowledge" which is GOD given wisdom to some of the people who HE wishes to.
For example when man landed on moon, it would have been against logic to many people at the time who are from different part of the world to believe it, yet it does not mean that those people were illogical?

The irony is that every one of us relate to Quran and complete and pass his/her own judgement and offer detailed explanation.
What I believe is with my limited capability of the power to reason (based on my experience and knowledge-- which is a continuous process, hence am here to learn and only by discussing things in here would correct/increase my knowledge).

1140 So, when Our command came and the chamber erupted. We said ?Carry in it a pair from each kind, and your family; except those against whom the word has been issued; and whoever has believed.? But those who believed with him were few.

So it was not only sheeps but more likely all of the domestic animals that were present in that region in order for Noah and the others to start a new life and survive.

In short, at the end of the day you and I are humans and we are bound to make errors or correct our understanding.. with time and sharing knowledge. I am still learning and long way and I am still puzzled with the question of age and years for Noah.
                                        Cheers

I was just reading Sura 29 and found this verse that clearly states the age of Noah...

We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them one thousand years, less fifty.

so difficult to use logic here.. does everyone actually accept the age of Noah as 950 years?

                                          This was already answered. http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9604210.msg303987#msg303987
