    Peace All,

    qalbun = heart

    Fa ?ad = heart

    sudor = breast

    Can someone help with the correct meanings and differences? I see that we are all gifted with fu'ad and should be thankful and the qalbun can be sealed and imprinted. I see that God strengthens the fu?ad. I see that the negative things affect the qalbun. I would like some clarity.

      Peace be upon you Grourself,

      The energy on this forum is high right now!

      I never noticed that two words are translated as "heart", very good observations. I have no answer yet, but now I realize there is something more there to reflect on.

        Peace all,

        1. Have they not roamed the land and had hearts with which to comprehend and ears with which to hear? No, it is not the sight which is blind, but it is the hearts (1) that are in the chests (2) that are blind.

            Peace Kyle,

            The difference between qalb (heart) and sadr (chest) is illustrated in 2246; qalb is in the chest.

            If you want to verify the context of the verses containing the word fu-ad (heart), see 11120, 1736, 2532, 2810, 5311. You can find other verses with al-af-idata, the plural form of fu-ad (2378...)

              Salaam Grourself,

              Sadr is from Sad Dal Ra' which means

              To return from, come back, proceed, issue or emanate from, go forward, advance or promote, come to pass, happen, emanate from, strike on the chest/breast, commence. Anything that fronts, or faces one; hence breast, chest or bosom . The fore part of anything. Going, or turning back and away.

              Fu'ad is from Fa Alif Dal which means

              To hurt in the heart, be affected with heart disease, be struck in the heart. Motion, putting in motion When said of fuel; It burned, burned up, burned brightly or fiercely, blazed, or flamed and so when said of the heart; It became excited with ardour, or eagerness.

              And qalb comes from Qaf Lam Ba' which means

              To turn, return, turn a thing upside down, change, change direction, turn it about to it's face and back, turn inside out, change condition.

              Joe

                Thanks. What I?m trying to resolve is how qalb, to turn, return, etc. becomes heart. I can?t seem to make the connection.

                  Peace be upon you all,

                  I am very clear on the discussion now and I am in the same condition as Grourself, how does "Qalb" become heart?

                    I'm not sure either.

                      The only thing I'd note is that we can learn something from the association of your 'heart' (qalb / sadr) and the sense of direction - or how a person decides on what direction their life will take and how it what turns and revisions it may undergo.

                      for example in 4716-17

                      And some of them listen to you, until when they go out from you, they say to those who have been given the knowledge "What did he say?" Those are the ones whom God has sealed upon their hearts, and they followed their desires.
                      And those who are guided, He increases their guidance, and grants them their righteousness.

                      Here the God makes explicit the relationship between the heart and the direction a person takes in life. It seems that the heart - that which the believer must open to Allah is what determines the direction they will take, the choices they will make etc.

                      salaams

                        Peace be upon you all,

                        still no difference between Qalb and sadr?

                        I have not had the time to do the work, but I guess I will have to do it. I'll try to post all the verses with each occurence next time I post so we can all have a closer look.

                          Salaam Kyle,

                          sudoor - Bossom, chest, breast, mind, heart, higher point, prominent place
