I bought at the very first day when it came out I the new CD of the Chemical Brothers. WOW !! What a piece of music ! The song Galvanize is GREAT ! Since Monday I'm listening to it almost without a break. It's is really great work.

Besides that I'm listening to the new of Syrian Sha'abi Artist Ali al Dik (yes, his name is really like that it means cock ) A great piece of work also.
Although she's more a teenie star I like also lebanese singer Elisa as well as heart bleeding Hani Shaker ... And I like a lot the voice of the flower of Algeria. Warda Al Jazeria.
But I love also classical music such as Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart.

yeah this is a great thread!

Warda - I'm with you on the Chemical brothers. They are superb.

I also like Super Furry Animals, New Order, PJ Harvey, Add N to X, Belle and Sebastian, Orbital, Grandaddy, Pavement, Nick Cave and Sonic Youth.

Plus there is, and always will be, a special place in my heart for The Carpenters.

                  Hi Warda,

I don't got a very big taste in Moroccan music; I like chaabi and dakka marrakchia. I don't got any favorite artists though. I myself am Moroccan but don't understand the language, since I've been brought up in The Netherlands and used to talking Dutch.

Do you also like Moroccan music?

                  Peace and love.

                    Salam Latifah,

I used to listen to Gil Gilala and Nas Al Ghiouane quite a while ago. Nowadays I still listen to Emil Zrihan (Maroccon Mawal) and - not Maroccan but Algerian - Cheb Mami.
But in these days I have to bother everybody around me with the Chemical Brothers the whole day through ... D D

                    Peace

Oh my brother also listens to Nas el Ghiwane. Blegh! Not my kind of taste. Don't understand a word of what they're saying. Well... just a little bit (tiny bit!).

Cheb Mami is cool! And yes the Chemical Brothers with the song 'Galvanise' is also a pretty one. Let me guessyou like those Arabian violins part right? haha

                      Peace.

I don't understand everything of it either, but I know what they're singing about. I used to hear them in my "revolutionary times".. And you don't find Bands like them very often, they are something special indeed.

Can I recommend Orchestre National de Barbes (especially the song 'Chalini')? Maybe not the same as Nass el Ghiwane (and I don't love all their songs), but they are pretty good also.

                                  Salaam everyone!
I was waiting for someone to come along and scream, "Music is haraam in Islam!" lol

Anyways I have a huge record (as in vinyl collection) of 50's and 60's music, ranging from jazz, to latin, to R&B, blues, surf, easy listening/lounge, polynesian, bellydance etc. as well as punk and psychedelic and some 70's rock like Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

                                  I also love
punk (Someone mentioned Anti Flag whom I saw many years ago at a local punk club here. They were really great and very nice people)

hardcore (as in NYHC, sXe stuff like Youth of Today, Nations on Fire, Mind Over Matter, Gorilla Biscuits etc)

psychedelic rock (Glass Prism, Savage Rose, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Lottie Golden)
                                  70's rock like Hendrix, Joplin
                                  alternative
                                  80's music
                                  Persian music

some electronic music like Hotel Costes CDs and Frequent Flyer Bombay

arabic music like Natacha Atlas and Amina

                                  anything that sounds good!

I cannot stand rap though....that misogynist and materialistic atttitude just gets to me.

                                  roll

I like nusrat fateh, he was quite good, the album 'night song' with michael brook is an excellent album.

Pakistani movie music sucks (so do the majority of movies), but the pop/rock/underground music scene is really good now, even the videos are improving qualitywise, none of that skimpy stuff there obviously, so they have to turn to more creative avenues which imo is the way good videos are made. I agree with you regarding indian movies, but their art movies are darn good, i really like watching those, but the commercial ones are awful...personally i can't stand songs in movies being lip synched and gyrated to...but yes, soon i guess, pakistani music will start coming out internationally, there are a few examples like strings, junoon and fuzon etc that went 'over the border' ... but i'm sure it's a matter of time, the music is good enough )

                                      Rgds,
                                      Nadia

                                          Mostly metal. Sometimes death metal.
