      You seem to have a perception of them being out to get you, are you sure you're not over reacting?

        Paranoid much?

        Another word on Houri... has anyone ever read up on the etymology of the Greek Hera/Hero? The same controversy exists there. One suggestion there is that it means 'ripe'. In the case of Hera, meaning ripe for marriage. In hero meaning optimum in developement.

        Edit from Wikipedia

        "The name of Hera, the Queen of the gods, admits a variety of mutually exclusive etymologies; one possibility is to connect it with hora (?&#945, season, and to interpret it as ripe for marriage." So begins the section on Hera in Walter Burkert's Greek Mythology. In a note, he records other scholars' arguments "for the meaning Mistress as a feminine to Heros, Master." John Chadwick, a decipherer of Linear B, remarks ""her name may be connected with hrs (?&#962 'hero', but that is no help, since it too is etymologically obscure." A.J. van Windekens, offers "young cow, heifer", which is consonant with Hera's common epithet (bo?pis, cow-eyed). E-ra appears in Mycenaean tablets.

          @liquiddharma

          Rather than sending out vague emotional overtures state something specific and accurate. If you have something to offer in the defense of the Christian approach, then let it be known.

            The one-word inscription which I talked about earlier ( http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9599647.msg23509 ) has now been documented at islamic-awareness.org. Check it out here

              If Christians or Jews at the time of the Quran didn't use the word hoorun or have special meaning for it relating to paradise then it makes it impossible that the pagan Arabs used a word like this with such a meaning, as the pagan Arabs denied the existence of an afterlife according to the Quran.

                  Quran teaches the same things as you see Jesus teach in the New Testament, except some false parts, for example Hebrews is a false chapter/book. They, the false, are clearly elaborating on the misconception about who Jesus was, based on misinterpretations of other sources.

                  For example, Father and Son in the canonical Gospels refer to Creator and Creation relationship. Son is a person who is merged and assimilated with the Creator and not biological offspring and the term son is poor as a choice of translation and was likely not originally like that. If you keep the terminology then everyone who manages to become one with Allah is a son and Allah has no special "son".

                  One recent observation I did was in the James book while check reading "religious" sources. There if you pay careful attention to errors in translation you clearly see that father was supposed to be called creator but somehow called father. Because a translation says "Father of light" and there were also other hints at misinterpretation. Who can be father of light?

                  Salaam

                    Peace,

                    About that black eyed virigin phrase, it is more important to discover alternative meanings in Arabic and its grammar and not try to look outside the language. When studying this I found that hoorun 'aynun could even mean 'clear intelligence.' I believe i saw this in hawaa's classical Arabic dictionary with some evidence of how the different verbal nouns of form one can be synonymous. It might take me some time to dig this back up. It was some years ago when I was researching it.

                    Language is the false and premature verbal delivery, or the unrefined crude over flow of the otherwise truthful feel in the depth of one's heart; taking as it is the verbal sermons or taking up the scripture as a material literature from any language using one's linguistic excellence is like extracting crude and rudimentary wastage applying human knowledge; it is nonsense until decoded through pondering; Quran is not a verbal language of human beings; but it is Allah's wisdom and admonition for all the worlds; and to be perceived by man through reflection, God willing; its verses are for the man's soulful perception which raises him to be appreciative of God's presence in him; and to feel His guidance from within his self to place him upon the throne of the Arsh.
