    Peace all

O you who have believed, when you stand / rise for prayer, THEN wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of impurity / pollution, then clean / wash the impurity / pollution. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (5 6)

Do we need to rise/stand for the prayer? Why is it that we should STAND for prayer? The word STAND suggests that prior to it we were either sitting or kneeling or lying or sleeping.

When you stand for the prayer then wash????. Why and HOW wadhu after rising / standing for prayer. Why wadhu not before SALAT?

Does it make sense to perform wadhu AFTER standing for prayer?

Had it been a command for the prayer then Allah would have said ?O ye who believe perform wadhu before the prayer? or ?do not approach the prayer before/without wadhu?

RISE to get up from a lying, sitting, or kneeling posture; assume an upright position to get up from sleep or from one's bed to get up after falling or being thrown down.

And be patient, , for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt with praise of your Lord when you rise from sleep 5248

O you who have believed, when you RISE/WAKE UP from sleep for the prayer THEN wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles (and when you RISE/WAKE UP from sleep for the prayer) and if you are in a state of impurity / pollution, then clean / wash the impurity / pollution.

After getting up in the morning, for SALAT there are two commands to be followed, first is MANDATORY and the second is CONDITIONAL.

The first (mandatory) is washing face, hands, head (wiping) and feet. The second (conditional) is washing /cleaning impurity / pollution when you are in a state of impurity otherwise NOT.

When you RISE/WAKE UP from sleep for going to office then brush your teeth and take bath (mandatory) and if you are hungry then take breakfast (subject to you are hungry)

It is not a command for the SALAT but a command to follow when you rise/wake up from sleep for SALAT. This is referring to the time WHEN you get up /rise/wake up, and you wake up only from your sleep in the morning for (SALAT AL FAJR) and this is the time when you are in a state of impurity.

Waking up from sleep for prayer and THEN performing wadhu is logical but standing up for prayer and THEN performing wadhu is nonsense.

O you who have believed, do not approach prayer as long as you are intoxicated (not in full possession of senses) until you know what you are saying or in a state of impurity, except travelling on road, until you have washed (BATHED). And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands . Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving. 443

Do not approach the SALAT in a state of drunkenness and in a state of impurity but you can approach SALAT without WADHU.

Two restrictions for offering SALAT and and there is no such restriction for women when they are menstruating and neither is the restriction to approach the prayer without wadhu

Why wadhu is not mentioned in the above verse? Did Allah forget to mention? Why wadhu is neglected /overlooked by Allah in the above verse? It is because wadhu has nothing to do with SALAT.

Therefore WADHU is not for SALAT but WADHU is a process of cleaning the parts of the body after rising from sleep in the morning, for SALAT like brushing teeth and taking bath after rising from sleep in the morning for going to office. There is no wadhu for other SALAT as well.

This also clears the confusion about menstruating women cannot pray. All women can pray 365 days a year irrespective of anything, except as long as in JANABAH (impurity/pollution)

They question thee (O Muhammad) concerning menstruation. Say It is a filth/dirt, so let women alone at such times and go not in unto them till they are cleansed. And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah hath enjoined upon you. Truly Allah loves those who turn unto Him, and loves those who have a care for cleanness 2222

There is no relation between and .The prohibition for the prayer is when in and not when therefore not to pray when is unquranic

    Thanks

      peace hk,

Can you clarify with your above understanding, what someone does if

      1. ill or on a journey or came from the toilet or touched (sexually) the women AND has access to water

      2. in a state of impurity/JNB AND travelling on road (AAabiree sabeelin, 443) AND has access to clean soil

      And when you say
"Waking up from sleep for prayer and THEN performing wadhu is logical"

      Do you mean
waking up from sleep for salat, doing salat, then performing ablution (i.e. after doing salat) is logical?

      Thanks.

        Peace Wakas

        1. ill or on a journey or came from the toilet or touched (sexually) the women AND has access to water

Should ( ) clean the impurity or ( ) wash the impurity. NO NEED OF TAYAMMU

        1. in a state of impurity/JNB AND travelling on road (AAabiree sabeelin, 443) AND has access to clean soil

Aabireen sabeel those who travel and halt at a place for a day or so are exempted from cleaning the impurity and TAYAMMU (NOR in a state of impurity,EXCEPT travelling on road (halting for a day or so at a place) ,

        http//snag.gy/Yb8lZ.jpg

        Do you mean
waking up from sleep for salat, doing salat, then performing ablution (i.e. after doing salat) is logical?

The condition is that you must get up from sleep. There is no wadhu if you do not get up from sleep for salat

WHEN you awake for salat (or for going to office or going for a walk or jogging or for exercise), THEN ???

the wadhu is followed by awaking from sleep

WHEN you do not awake for salat THEN no need of performing wadhu

If you do not sleep at night OR BEFORE SALAT AL EISHA then you can approach the fajr or any salat without wadhu

Wadhu has nothing to do with the salat but is connected to sleep.

RULES You can approach salat without wadhu if you do not get up from sleep for salat.

You cannot approach salat if you are in a state of impurity unless you clean/wash the impurity/ wash the whole body.

        EXEPTION Aabireen as sabeel.

Exception those who are sick (and polluted) or on a journey (and polluted) or those who have relieved themselves or those who touched women sexually, should do tayammum if no water is available for cleaning/washing the impurity

        First part (wadhu)

O you who have believed, when you stand / rise /awake for prayer, THEN wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles.

        Second part (impurity)

AND if you are in a state of impurity / pollution, THEN clean / wash the impurity / pollution. BUT if you are sick (and polluted) or on a journey (and polluted) or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have touched women sexually and do not find water, THEN seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favour upon you that you may be grateful. (5 6)

        Third part (intoxication)

O you who have believed, do not approach prayer as long as you are intoxicated (not in full possession of senses) until you know what you are saying

Fourth part (repeat of second part = impurity)

NOR in a state of impurity, EXCEPT travelling on road (halting for a day or so at a place) , until you have washed the impurity (or washed the whole body). BUT if you are sick (and polluted) or on a journey (and polluted) or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have touched women sexually and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands . Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving. 443

This is my understanding of the verse, please correct me if I am mistaken.

        Thanks

          peace hk,

Thanks for the reply. In case you are wondering why I am asking you these questions, it is because I am pondering over the reasoning/framework being used.

          Re 1)

Should ( ) clean the impurity or ( ) wash the impurity. NO NEED OF TAYAMMU

I agree that TYMM is not necessary in this instance. Let's say a person is ill, e.g. has a cold - what do you imagine them washing? I know it would be different from person to person, but I would imagine at least their hands and face.

The difference therefore, in your understanding, between "wudhu" upon waking and my example above is perhaps wiping of feet/head. In other words, not much difference.

          Re 2)
I agree that when in a state of JNB and "Aabireen sabeel" an exception is granted. However, two points

          1. it is clear from the verses that their entire purpose is for cleansing/purifying - that is the preference/aim
          2. thus according to the verses, if in a state of JNB and NOT "Aabireen sabeel" one cannot undertake salat if they do not wash/purify - i.e. that is so significant, it is a deal breaker.

Thus, logic would dictate, to opt for the preference/aim if in a position to do so, and/or default to the lesser standard if in a position to do so. See 6416.
Thus, for example, if in a state of JNB and "Aabireen sabeel" with access to clean soil (or even some water but not enough to bathe in) one can opt to do what one is able - they do not have to but they can if they wish. I would imagine however, that many would have access to some spare water or clean soil.

Thus, I am considering if this reasoning/framework is unmentioned but implicit. This may also help if considering where the Traditional understanding stems from.

I haven't concluded on these verses yet.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.
