    Peace,

My name is tre. I'm new, to this forum and to Islam. I am really trying to turn my life around and live righteously but it is hard, i spend most of my free time reading the quaran, trying to understand it the best i can. Is there anything I should be doing, or not be doing? I would like to make sure I am on the right path. Thanks. D

      Peace to you Tre,
I don't think anyone has the right to tell you what to do or not to do in Islam, although you're going to find many Muslims volunteering to do just that.
It's good that you're reading the Quran and that's your first step.
Remember you cannot grasp everything in a short period of time so all I can offer is what I've personally experienced, which is to take baby steps in Islam.
It's hard to adjust to a new way of life and I think we all take a few steps back but we do the best we can.
I'm glad you've chosen the God alone path and I wish you all of God's blessings in your journey.

        Salaam Tre,

Is there anything I should be doing, or not be doing?

Constantly ponder Death and the Hereafter. Remember, once we're there, that's it.

        Salaam.

        GOD Alone/Quran Alone,
        Damon.

Ponder death constantly? What could i be doing to make sure i am on good terms with god? Besides helping my people and no pork and alcohol, ect ect. Is there like a basis of simple rules I should be following on top of reading the quaran? Also, what is "GOD Alone"?

            Salaam,

God alone refers to God being the only judge for the muslimeen . Read ayaat 1723-39 for some basic moral precepts which you will find repeated in the allegories. These are the basis of the quran and further expantion on it is simply the similar.

              Peace Barista,

Please read 6151-153, it's a set of simple criteria that one should constantly keep in mind in order to stay on the straight path.

              PM 6151-153

Say "Come let me recite to you what your Lord has forbidden for you that you should not set up anything with Him; and be kind to your parents; and do not kill your unborn children for fear of poverty, We provide for you and for them; and do not come near lewdness, what is plain of it or subtle; and do not kill the soul which God has forbidden, except in justice. That is what He enjoined you that you may comprehend."

"And do not come near the money of the orphan, except for what is best, until he reached his maturity; and give honestly full measure and weight equitably. We do not burden a soul except by what it can bear, and if you speak then be just even if against a relative; and regarding the pledges made to God, you shall observe them. This He has enjoined you that you may remember."

And this is My path, a Straight One. "So follow it, and do not follow the other paths lest they divert you from His path. That is what He has enjoined you to that you may be righteous."

congratulations on deciding to sort your life out and live righteously. God willing as you practice Islam your understanding of it will grow and the seeds you have planted will flower in your soul. But by studying quran and trying to implement what God teaches in your own life you will be doing the most important thing you can to be on good terms with God.
You are right to say that its hard cos it is - but Allah tells us to strive in our good works - so strive we must.

Just a note on God Alone - what most people mean by that is following the quran rather than following quran + hadiths. Thats it in a nutshell although of course there are shades of opinion concerning this question as any other.

May God bless you and reward you in your efforts

                peace
