    Peace all,

So I was under the assumption that kings and queens were in the wrong, most notably the monarchy in Saudi Arabia, because all sovereignty belongs to God, right?

But then I wondered what the deal was with king Solomon? Was he really a king specifically, or just a leader? If a king, then does that mean my previous assumption about people accepting monarchy over them is all wrong then?

For reference, monarchy on dictionary.com means

From my knowledge and readings of the Qur'an and other Books of Allah's Word, I don't know of anything disproving a hierarchical system where a person or groups of persons have some control. In the Qur'an specifically, I have read certain verses that actually allude to the inevitability of this particular system. If we turn to nature, we also see evidence of this hierarchical system. However, the overall sentiment that I took from the reading is that 1) a person must not look at others who may be more "well off" on this earth and wonder why God did not give them those earthly blessings for God does not give us anything we cannot handle. 2) Those who have excess have the responsibility to distribute their resources as to not provide for the less fortunate and to close the gap between the have and the have nots (zakat).

A Perfect System makes a perfect world...but the world still doesn't know.

This is what I understand from the Quran

Kings definitely are in the wrong because "whenever they enter a contry, they corrupt it and turn the noblest of its people into the most abject." (2734)

They act as if they were the shepherd and the people their sheep with no say in the government. So God urges people to assert their right to have their say

O you who have attained to faith! Do not say, "Watch over us," but rather say, "Take us into account." (2104)

The best type of government is democracy thru consultation

O Prophet! "Take counsel with the people in all matters of public affair." (3159)
True believers are those "whose rule is consultation among themselves." (423

As for sovereignty, some of it is ONTOLOGICAL which solely belongs to God; like making the religious laws (4221), granting life and dealing death, and causing the sun to rise in the east (225.

God never allows men to have a share in His rule of this sort. (1826)

But He does allow them POLYTICAL sovereignty. He may even allow a king to rule a country on condition that he does not confuse his human political sovereignty with God's ontological sovereignty. (225

        Peace,
        Hasan
