So I had a meal today which contained octopus. The chef was telling me how it is stabbed through the brain.

Now I'm thinking, I know 596 says we can eat all creatures of the sea, but wouldn't stabbing through the head come under a forbidden condition in 53? I can't say I like the idea of something being stabbed through the brain but my question is does God actually allow sea creatures killed in this fashion to be eaten.

I'm curious what you all think....

All killing of animals is pretty gruesome and horrible. Even the plants send out distress signals and chemicals while being cut and harmed. We live by Death.

People sometimes harpoon fish and it goes through their head or eye. It is a brutal world. Otherwise they pick them up with a net, and pull them out of the water, and they gasp and suffocate, and sometimes they are bludgeoned on the head with a mallet to bash their brains to death. If not, they just gasp and look at the outside world with their eyes, as it all fades in their suffocation.

Enjoy your sushi. I do. Knowing who my God is. The Lord of Evil and Good (good like the enjoyment of Sushi, Evil like the means of attaining it).

      Salam,

This is what has been in my mind, even more than what you queried. Since the Quran is a manifestation of the Book of Musa, the Furqan - , in which case it explain everything - 06154 and being that, I was wondering why all creatures of the sea is allow to be eaten?

In the Torah, it mentioned that fishes that have fins and scales may be eaten (Bass, croppies, flounder, cod, haddock, pike, salmon, sunfish, mackerel, snapper, trout, perch, smelt, tuna, etc.). Lev. 119; Deut. 149, while all water life that does not have fins and scales are not to be eaten (e.g., shrimp, lobster, snails, clams, shark, shell fish, eels, catfish, scallop, octopus, etc.). Deut. 1410; 19; Lev. 1110-12.

Those verses seems to be explicit and make sense. Those fishes with scales once fish out of the water, die faster than those without scales. In this case, in order to cook those scaleless fish, the chef will have to take "drastic" measures. I have experience when ordering crab. The chef took the living crab and immediately put it in boiling water. Can you see how drastic it is?

      ONLY ALLAH KNOWS...PEACE

55 removes any prohibitions of the Torah. The Quran clearly states what is Halal and Haram

'Say, ?I do not find in what was revealed to me
      anything prohibited for any eater
unless it is (1) carrion, (2) running blood,
      (3) the meat of pigs, for it is unclean, and
      (4) meat blasphemously dedicated to other than God.?
If one is forced to eat these
      without being malicious or deliberate,
then your Lord is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
      '

also in regard to animals that die of themselves 53

      (forbidden are...
'...strangled, struck with an object, fallen from a height, gored, attacked by a wild animalunless you save your animal before it dies...'

If you believe that what you had fell under the prohibited i would suggest seeking forgivness from God, He is the Most Merciful, Forgiving. However i do not see that this food is haram. unless you interpret 'struck with an object' to mean 'stabbed through the brain' which i dont believe it is. the definition of the word translated as 'struck with an object' means beating or hitting fataly

0503 - Prohibited on you are the dead animals and the blood and the flesh of scavengers and that has been dedicated to other than ALLAH on it and the strangled and the fatal blow and the fatal fall and the fatal gored by horns, and that which wild animal has eaten, except that you slaughtered and that is sacrificed on stone altars and which you seek decision through divining arrows.
Likewise all that is grave disobedience. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of your religion; so fear them not, but fear ME. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed MY favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin - then indeed, ALLAH is Forgiving and Merciful.

So how can you consider it HALAL the meat of animals when we have to kill it by giving it a hard blow or put it ALIVE in hot water?

So is shark also HALAL by your standard when it is considered scavenger?

By God in not saying judge BY MY STANDARDS, obviously anyone who does not judge by what God has revealed, they are the wrongdoers. I dont see how Shark falls under any of those catagories, or a seafood put alive in hot water, even if that is cruel. In regards to having to kill fish by wacking it on the head. God does say that ' All fish of the sea are made lawful for you to eat' however the prohibition seemingly would overrule that. Is there other ways to kill fish? I definitely will have to look more into this. however i Still believe the octopus mentioned does not fall into the caterory of Forbidden, as judged by God, if it was killed with a knife.

Those Lexicons that you are referring to are wrong in translation. Khinzir refers to animals that have canine tooth and which are scavengers.
Hogs, wild boars have canine tooth and they are scavengers, as such they are in the category of Khinzir. That goes for all big cats, domesticated cats, dog family and all the other animals that have canine tooth and scavengers.

this view seemingly makes sense, do you have evidence for it? and if so could you please tell me where to find it.

                    Peace

you mean like violent blow?(that condition?)

.... to be honest i've never killed a fish but in a slight hypocrisy i love eating fish????

ALLAH willing the answer will come to you.
