      Peace be upon you,

The word "surah" does NOT mean chapter, it implies a structure. The God is challenging you to bring a structure like HIS universe, or even a sign(ayat) from amongst His structure(collection of signs).

Let me repeat that, the rejectors are being challenged to bring a creation, or part of a creation other than the God's creation, and NONE can ever do that.

      peace .
where did the "universe" come from ?

          Peace bros and sisters,

So "sura" does not mean chapter but implies structure.

          So what does sura mean?

            peace All,

I think the core meaning of the word "sura" (root Siin-Waw-Ra) is structure, however, that does not rule out its meaning as "chapter".

            Please see the following thread
            http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2250

There are many interesting observations to be made.

              Salam all,

I understand the S-W-R as to enclose something for the verb. As for nouns

              SUR means an eclosing wall
ISWARA means bracelet which enclsoes the arm or ankle or whatever

SURA is feminine of SOOR and therefore has the meaning of Something that encloses. It can be a structure, a chapter of the Qur'an (which encloses the AYAT inside) or even a passage of the Qur'an that cover/encloses any subject may be considered a SURA.

              Salaam all

              Hussein

If you have any doubt regarding what we revealed to our servant, then produce one sura like these, and call upon your own witnesses against GOD, if you are truthful.

                        964
The hypocrites worry that a sura may be revealed exposing what is inside their hearts. Say, "Go ahead and mock. GOD will expose exactly what you are afraid of."
                        986
When a sura is revealed, stating "Believe in GOD, and strive with His messenger," even the strong among them say, "Let us stay behind!"

When a sura was revealed, some of them would say, "Did this sura strengthen the faith of anyone among you?" Indeed, it did strengthen the faith of those who believed, and they rejoice in any revelation.

                        9127

Whenever a sura was revealed, some of them would look at each other as if to say "Does anyone see you?" Then they left. Thus, GOD has diverted their hearts, for they are people who do not comprehend

If they say, "He fabricated it," say, "Then produce one sura like these, and invite whomever you wish, other than GOD, if you are truthful."

                        1113

If they say, "He fabricated (the Quran)," tell them, "Then produce ten suras like these, fabricated, and invite whomever you can, other than GOD, if you are truthful."

A sura that we have sent down, and we have decreed as law. We have revealed in it clear revelations, that you may take heed.

Those who believed said "When will a new sura be revealed?" But when a straightforward sura was revealed, wherein fighting was mentioned, you would see those who harbored doubts in their hearts looking at you, as if death had already come to them. They were thus exposed.

                        Peace Kyle.

Took many years to imitate sura like it but was late because new miracle was revealed and you are right with saying structure. Yes a chapter with its structure

May be is time you brother to restudy Miracle more carfully and with a heart clear of any negative attitude. May this claiming is new cycle of your study in supporting clear proof which have been revealed.

                        Peace.

                              Salaam,

                              My point exactly sister Nadia!!

Although gramatically the word "Surah" does have connotations of structure, it is 100% clear what is being refered to in these verses. Especially 223, 1113 and 1038-39. Also, why would GOD challenge us to Create as He Himself has created? The object of a challenge is that the recipient of the challenge believes that he can meet it (the challenge that is).

We are obviously being challenged to produce a "Surah" the likes of which make up the quran.

                              Peace,
                              Damon.
