Marriage, What is it?
-
Marriage has been turned into some cult ritual whereby you follow procedures that vary from religion to religion and culture to culture. Since rejecting religion and their man-made laws, I have been pondering on what exactly "marriage" is. How do you get married without the man-made religious mumbo jumbo? Quran mentions none of the silly procedures performed by cult members such as Muslims, Jews and Christians. No silly parties, parents being present and have to agree in order for marriage to take place, rings, food and dressing up.
Quran speaks of dowry and the two individuals being committed to each other. After deep contemplation, I believe marriage is not what we were raised to believe it is by religion and society. Marriage is simply a long-term relationship. A healthy, fair, peaceful and loving relationship between a man and a woman. A pledge between them to take care of each other and only engage in sexual activity with each other and no one else i.e no cheating.
I don't believe other human presence and approval is required for a marriage to take place because The GOD is omnipresent, all-knowing and all-seeing. The GOD is sufficient as a witness. The reason for opening this thread is to know what your understanding of marriage is. What is marriage and how do you get married without any religious mumbo jumbo?

From here
What does The Quran say on the age of marriage?
The Quran does not state a specific legal age of marriage, however it does give a guideline and mentions situations and conditions that should be considered before marriage
Determining mutual attraction/compatibility
Ascertaining whether the potential partner is of similar beliefs/faith
Discussion of and agreeing to the level of dower and other terms (if any)
Understanding and mutual acceptance of marriage as a solemn/strong oath/contract
If male, capable of providing for the family/household
To have physically matured / post-puberty
To have the marriage contract/oaths witnessedIf the marriage is unsuccessful, one should also be capable of undertaking divorce proceedings, e.g. separation period, arbitration, discussion of settlement etc .
