What i think about the Salat being a scheduled ledger----
-
Salaams,
This has been discussed a number of times but i wonder if you can visualise it from a different angle but using the quran in main4103
---------- verily the Salaat is on the believers enjoined at fixed time and do not be weak----------.Name of Allah ALMUQEET = The possessor of power.
Man yashfaAA shafaAAatan hasanatanyakun lahu naseebun minha waman yashfaAA shafaAAatansayyi-atan yakun lahu kiflun minha wakana AllahuAAala kulli shay-in MUQEETUN
Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein And whoever recommends and helps an evil cause, shares in its burden And Allah hath power over all things.
According to lanes(P 2571)
Muqeetun = Giving or giver of Food/Sustenance/Keeping/Preserving/Guarding.
Mawqootan= Nourishment/Preservation/Protection ; As is needful.
SO AN ALTERNATIVE TRANSLATION COULD WELL BE
4103
------------verily the Salaat is on the believers an enjoined requirement and not be weak-------------.e.t.cGod Bless.

Salaam mz357,
This is another time where you are using two roots and mixing them together.
485 used a word from the root Qaf-W-T and it means sustenance and so forth.
This is what brother Wakas had compiled on the other root
W-Qaf-T
Waw-Qaf-Ta = defined/determined/limited a thing as to time, appoint/declare/assign a time, measure of time (e.g. season).
This is the word in 4103notice the Waw between the M and Qaf
Now, here is the word in 485
{
You can see the difference between the two and that they are not the same word.
you saidMawqootan= Nourishment/Preservation/Protection ; As is needful.
I seriously doubt that Lane said that. If it indeed did, then it is a very unreliable book.
Salaam and have a good day

peace Hussein,
Whilst I enjoy seeing someone use the excellent PRL as an additional tool to their study of al quran, I would prefer if you did not refer to me as the compiler, as I am not the sole contributor, instead say something like "this is from PRL" and provide a link ideally.
Thanks.
Wakas

Salaams Br. Latif,
I am afraid as yet again i am only going by the meanings used elswhere in the quran and that contained in the Lanes manual - the page number is there for anybody to check/refer to if you doubt what i have said. And it does telly if you consider lanes reputable-which i do.
God Bless you.

possible meaning in context

Salaam all,
Brother Wakas, I apologise for using your name. I hope that I will remember to do it right the next time. I do admire your work and your honesty.
Brother Zlatan, I may have misunderstood what you are trying to say. In case you were trying to say that the SALAT was prescribed at a certain time, then I respectfully disagree with your statement.
The reason is the fact that you cited part of the Ayah and left the beginning of that sentence.
Ayah 4103
fa-itha itma/nantumfaaqeemoo alssalata inna alssalatakanat AAala almu/mineena kitaban mawqootan
but when ye are free from danger, set up Regular Prayers For such prayers are enjoined on believers at stated times. So, it is not something that was ordered at a certain point in time, because it follows an order form of the verb in the present tense.
Another proof of the fact that SALAT needed to be done at certain times is this
3830 And to David We granted Solomon. What an excellent and obedient servant.
3831 When, during dusk, well trained horses were displayed before him.
3832 He said "I enjoyed the good of materialism more than I enjoyed remembering my Lord, until it became totally dark!"What Solomon is saying here is that he spent his time looking at his horses until the sun totally disappeared and therefore he missed the time of THIKR of his GOD, which can be easily understood as part of SALAT. If the THIKR was not a timed thing, Solomon would not have said what he said
Salaam all and have a peaceful day
