Most detailed and best salat article ive come across so far

Salaam all,
Just come across the best salat article ive read so far. Its extremely similar to Edip's conclusion as well as the site quran-islam.org
http//www.mostmerciful.com/salaatinquranwebversion.pdf
I think this one is the nail in the coffin for this highly contentious topic...
Peace,
Omar

Peace be upon you ,
Aw brother, you had me so excited! But that was like I went back to sunnism (
That article has more flaws then I care to discuss. The author needs to understand that Dua is "calling/prayer", not salaa.

Are there still people here who ritually prays when the whole Quran disproves it...

I briefly flicked through this article. I was also disappointed. Currently I am reading Daniel Brown's book on the evolution of the Sunni faith and the attempts made by some to reclaim Islam.
One thing that was obvious from the book was that those attempting to reclaim Islam felt a need to justify Sunni traditions (from the Quran).
This article does the same thing. It is much like articles I have read on Quran.org. Find some Quranic verses which are similar to the Sunni incantations and then say that therefore this is what you say in 'prayer'. Furthermore, like the Rashad Khalifah types, the author does not seem to recognize that the Arabic Quran is God's message, not the translation of it.
Such authors need to drop their assumptions and probable inferiority complex. Sunnism does not equal Islam.
It struck me once when I was looking at a picture of Sunnis prostrating towards a black stone in Mecca, having just seen a film of Hindu worship, where their 'salat' could have originated - from their own pre-Islamic pagan practices.

how does the Quran disprove it? It does talk about something you do while standing up.
See it's something you do STANDING UP. But it's NEVER been used with SJD and RK together. Prophet used to connect/reach out to God through reading the Quran (11114, 177 and the believers were supposed to participate in this occasion (aka "link"). Dua is the real "prayer" and it can be done anytime and anywhere. You don't need some cubic structure to pray.

Are there still people here who ritually prays when the whole Quran disproves it...
The Quran tells us to bow and prostrate, to learn and recite the Quran, to remember God - all this you are doing in ritually prayers, so it can't be that wrong. And the beneficial spiritual result of it is enormous. Whether 3 or 5 times a day, 2 or 4 or 8 Raqas is not so important.
I pray the traditional way and Insha'Allah I will continue doing so. I started regularly praying when I was doubting and struggling with that whole praying stuff so much and I was so torn, that I just decided to try it the traditional way. Since then I continued - REGULARLY - which is in my opinion and experience very important!
And it feels great )Salam

Peace all . Whatever you consider salat is(and i consider it as following gods laws)it should keep you from the forbidden(doing injustice/harm to humanity) and thus encourage you to actively do justice and so benefit man-kind.

Peace,
From the PRL are these occurences and I will post the root meaning of s-l-w for you too.

Peace nabi and tahira and all. Salat is an issue i have really had to strive to understand. I think it took around 6months or so. I would suggest in understanding this or any other topic in islam we try to be patient and objective. I think the conscience(supplemented by studying gods signs in nature and books) is sometimes overlooked in studying religion. How do we know to treat a baby gently? Through conscience and life experience. The quran is a reminder and explanation/confirmation of matters we can already perceive. However if we follow irrational desires we dull this rationality and hide/cover/disregard the truth and thus disobey gods law.(kufr) In light of this we should try to be brave and open-minded when searching for the correct understanding. I myself have been questioned by my wife on my understandindgs in islam and though i am trying to be tolerant and just, some issues are very very clear. We cannot blindly, unquestionagly follow ideas from the past or present that are clearly harmful/unjust to humanity.Even if they are practised or accepted by a large amount of people.
Nabi mentioned salat can have the connatation of being attached or closely following,i agree and would suggest it means closely following the laws of god. Listen to all the opinions then chose the best/most just meaning.(quran;391 -

Peace peacefulmuslim and all. I dont believe we can connect with god literally. I think connect means to closely follow his commands. God cannot be comprehended or imagined or perceived of in any way.(42;11, 7;143, 6;103) We only know what he causes/makes happen by observing his signs.(the whole of creation)and asking(thinking/dua) what his signs indicate.(i suggest these signs in creation indicate one creator and guider for everything that exists, and to comply with the commands he sends).

When I said 'connect with God', I meant connection in a spiritual sense.
Through my prayers, I connect to God and feel closer to God.I agree God's enormousness can be understood through life, but He can be realised from within us.
Peace!
