Judaism

Christianity

In the Christian religion, patience is one of the most
valuable virtues of life.

Increasing patience is viewed as the work of the Holy
Spirit in the Christian who has accepted the gift of
salvation.
The high value placed on patience by Christianity is
evidenced in the following bible references

"We urge you, brothers, ... be patient with all.
See that no one returns evil for evil; rather, always
seek what is good for each other and for all."

"Be patient, therefore, brothers, ... See how the
farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being
patient with it until it receives the early and the late
rains. You too must be patient."

Islam

Patience in Islam is one of the best and most
valuable virtues of life.
Through patience, a Muslim believes that an individual
can grow closer to God and thus attain true peace.

It is also stressed in Islam, that God is with those
who are patient, more specifically during suffering.

"Seek Allah's help with patient perseverance and
prayer. It is indeed hard except for those who are
humble."

"O you who believe! Seek help with patient
perseverance and prayer, for God is with those who
patiently persevere."

"But give glad tidings to those who patiently
persevere. Those who say, when afflicted with
calamity, 'To Allah we belong, and to Him is our
return.'
They are those on whom descend blessings from
their Lord, and mercy. They are the ones who receive
guidance."

"O you who believe! Persevere in patience and
constancy. Vie in such perseverance, strengthen each
other, and be pious, that you may prosper."

"And be steadfast in patience, for verily Allah will not
suffer the reward of the righteous to perish."

"No one will be granted such goodness except those
who exercise patience and self-restraint, none but
persons of the greatest good fortune."

"To be steadfast in prayer And give in charity; To fulfill
the contracts which you have made;
And to be firm and patient, in pain and adversity And
throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of
truth, the God-fearing."

To have sabr (patience) means to patiently and rationally ? and
prayerfully ? seek solutions to your problems

?Lord, grant me patience to bear the things I cannot
change, courage to change the things I can, and
wisdom to know the difference.?

counsel. It is indeed hard except for those who are

I would try a poll and see which people here think gives us more of a help.

Is Kaaba in the quran the stone structure you find in mecca? If not should the meaning be changed to something more in line with the context of the quran and with reality too.

From my knowledge of the Quran, the quranic word "Sabr", commonly translated as patience, has been mistranslated. The word "Sabr" appears to have a much deeper meaning than patience. Patience is a passive word, while the quranic word "Sabr" is an active word. Many people believe that many words in the Quran have been mistranslated and misinterpreted by many past Scholars. Therefore, the true meaning of many quranic words/terms seems to have been hidden (concealed). I think that the true meanings of Quranic words/terms are very powerful and have the potential to create a paradigm shift in the world (especially in the muslim world).

As mentioned earlier, the word "Sabr" (commonly translated as patience), has been mistranslated. The word "Sabr" has a much deeper meaning than patience. I would like to share a few paragraphs from the book "Lughat-ul-Quran" with you. The book is written by the muslim scholar G.A. Parwez. Please read these paragraphs carefully and reflect on what the author states about the word "Sabr" in the Quran.

A few paragraphs from page 12 in the book

2153 O you, who believe, seek help in patience (Sabre) and Salaat. God is with those with patience (Sabireen).

SABR, commonly translated as patience, is usually applied to a situation from which an individual cannot escape, leading to desperation and helplessness. When there is no hope of actively affecting the situation, the advice given is "have patience," to the extent that even someone suffering great injustice at the hands of another, when he can do nothing to improve the situation, calms his inner struggle through the mantra of ?patience.? In other words, this interpretation of "sabr" carries a connotation of passivity.

The root meaning of SABR, however, is constantly and continuously to struggle towards a goal or purpose, to stand steadfastly. This root meaning is derived based on its usage by the desert Arabs in their daily lives. In other words, it means a connotation of activity.

A part of a cloud, if it stays in exactly the same spot for 24 hours without apparently shifting, is called AS-SABEER. AL-ASBIRAH is the word used to describe camels or goats that leave during the day to graze, and later return retracing their footsteps exactly, without a single one of them going astray or being left behind {T}. These concrete examples allow one to visualize how the Arabs understood SABR to mean steadfastness, persistence and perseverance, to firmly adhere to a principle or way, commitment to an action. It is this unshakable resolution towards a way or principle that was considered SABR by the Arabs.

Moving on, if passengers or goods created an uneven balance on a boat such that it begins to be unstable, the boatman would place a heavy rock in order to balance the load. This rock would be called AS-SABOORAH {T}. Therefore, the second characteristic of SABR is that if one?s footsteps begin to waver from the path, it is SABR that provides the support upon which balance is regained, keeping the footsteps firmly on the chosen path. Because this kind of steadfastness leads to success and accomplishment, AS-SABRAH is used to describe a pile of grain that is unmeasured (Muheet).
