its something not only regarding religion its in our nature..

The "Survival Mode" is being triggered whenever human has perceived that ANYTHING which he / she has IDENTIFIED HIM / HERSELF WITH are being threatened.

    It can be

    1. His/her opinion
    2. His/her religion
    3. His/her idol.
    4. His/her language
    5. His/her tradition / culture
    6. His/her favorite figures
    7. His/her favorite book
    8. His/her football club
    9. His/her cricket team
etc.. (there are thousands of examples)

yeh I watched that documentary it was interesting , but is it the mind that control our character or is it our real self what we call character/soul/spirit/rooh ?

, as far I think its our character that uses mind as a tool to calculate things... otherwise by default character knows nothing is real its all illusion and we should afraid from lord only... but we are confuse somehow..

        Imran,

It is important to draw a distinction betweeb the spirit and body. You are the spirit under the guise that your body is your identity while it is not.

The "Survival Signal" (or interrupt as it's being called in a computer) is a high priority signal, the same level as "Pain" or "Hunger". Now here's an interesting part, yes it CAN be overriden / disregarded and controlled. Brain is like an operating systems if it's a computer, the 'application' on the above layer can always override and control the appropriate response. Some people called this application or higher consciousness as "soul".

This however need practices.. that's why as the 'soul ages' it become better on controlling the signal from the brain. It shows on the controlling skill progressed as human aged.. Older people (on average) tend to have more control compared to teenager or infant..

This "controlling skill ability" however has no correlation with good or evil in character..
Human who performed suicide for example are proven to have controlled / disregard the "survival" signal on his brain.

If you want to explore "the soul" / "higher consciousness" you should do a research on near death experiences (NDE). I think somebody has created a thread on NDE in this forum too..

There are cases where a human remembered that he experienced something while even his brain shows no activity / dead. The experience is so vivid and colorful, far different from merely a 'dream'.

Dream (during sleep) was produced by the brain, and human brain (as of current state of their evolution) lack the processing power to produce vivid and colorful experience during a dream. (Not even HD the quality is far below SD p)

Ego correlate with PRIDE.. similar but not the same..
Too much of it.. it's not healthy.. especially for those around him..
None of it.. then it's not healthy either... the person might feel he is worthless and have suicidal tendency..

Suicidal bomber recruiter / Islamist preachers / Islamist high ranking leaders / Facist / Narcisist / Racist tends to have a BIG ego.. that's why they NEVER did the suicidal act themselves.. They tend to live under a self-made illusion that they're the God's chosen people, God's people, doing God's mission and every body else are below them..(Kuffar, Pagan, Unenlightened, Lower Race, Subhuman etc..) basically they think that they're above others (uber alles).

But.. they tend to destroy his victim's ego.. indoctrinating them that their life is worthless and the only way to make their miserable life meaningful is by doing a sacrifice of their lives in order to achieve the greater goal of glory of Islam / glory of Allah / 72 virgins / glory of your home land or any other ridiculous excuse...
If only the victim has a slightest rationality left he could easily responded back with "If that's the case, then why did you asked me to do suicide? Why didn't you do it yourselves first"?

Beyond every egocentric people and their self-made illusion about how great they are, they have doubts, their conscience are aware that the illusion is merely an illusion, it's not real... That's why they tend to get edgy / nervous / easily to be angry and pissed off when somebody challenged their "self made image" and "belief"..

Humble people however tend to have big / secured self confidence and self worth.. they feel that they don't need the acknowledgement from others about their own self worth.. they don't need to feel "above others" (uber alles) to recognize their own self worth... that's why they can pose the attitude of humility..

"The true servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them they say peace"

its incredible although i think the same way how you think but listening from your side make my concepts more firm. exactly ego hold no place whatsoever

but self respect is another thing usually people confuse about it

from my childhood i m allergic to eat or share food with somebody like of somebody take a drink from my drink i dnt really want to drink that and i said to the other person drink it all even my most loving person of my life my mom i only share tea with her in childhood and i asked from her mama let me dip biscuit in it then after it u drink lol

i sometimes feel when i do it some people feel low but i cant help it i never say anything to them i mean not rude but i just dnt drink it afterwards two three times my close frds told me is it that u think we r not muslims or u think i r clean than us or dnt i love us and i politely said all three reaons are wrong but its in my nature forgive me for this please.

How do you feel when another person do the same thing to you?
If you feel ok / acceptable then fine...

From my personal view, sharing drink like that is not hygienic..
I will not do it either, and I will never asked others to do the same thing for me too..

The same reasons why I don't want to kiss that black stone in Mecca... not hygienic..
I did it once though, to make one of my aunt happy..
She wants to kiss the stone very much as she believes it will grant her a special blessing from Allah.. but I don't think she will survive the pressuring crowds..
So I did it in her name... and she was very happy..

PS; I don't believe a 'wrong' belief shall necessary make a person bad or evil.. nope I never lectured her that she has a ridiculous belief regarding the black stone..

This is also why discussions and debate can - in some circumstances - just strengthen your opponents beliefs, and thus make him or her disagree with you even more. An empirical example is the opression of minorities - when Christians in Pakistan are being harassed for their faith, it only serve to stregnthen their christian beliefs. And when Muslims in Europe feel that their muslim identity is threatened, they often end up becoming more religious than they would otherwise have been. This is a form of being stubborn; you feel opressed and powerless, thus you identify even more with your position in order to 'get back' at your enemy and feel a sense of power.

                        Exactly!

Another example Destroying their idols doesn't makes idol worshipper leaving their idols, instead they burn the destroyer to death and they clinged on more to their idols.. Debating with the Rabbis doesn't make any of the Rabbis changed their minds, instead they crucify their 'debate partner' which they perceived as a threat to their hegemony.

When 2 parties are debating proposing different opinions, the one who will get the benefit are the 3rd parties, the audience, those who are not involved in the debate. Their "survival mode" are not being triggered inside their brain, they have NO ATTACHMENT / NO SELF IDENTIFICATION to any of the proposed opinion / belief. Thus they can analyze any of the proposed arguments rationally...
