Man of Faith, I completely understand why someone would choose modest clothing, even to that extent. I chose it. I'm living it. It's different than how I grew up, it's a learning experience, and I need a compromise.

Still haven't brought it up with him... I'm sure y'all know how real life is.

Anyway, I found this YouTube talk from author/historian Tom Holland where he brainstorms some hypothetical strategies for the Muslim population to better incorporate Islam into Western society, I guess you could say. It's called "De-radicalizing Muhammad". Just wanted to share with SOMEONE as I don't think anyone in my immediate community could reject Hadith without being called a nonbeliever. -\

          https//youtu.be/I5slk97ss2Q

I think it's important as Islam is not going away. It's here to stay. It's going to be a part of my country, my culture, and my family.

          Thanks for reading. peace

It is more than simply retain control. The choice of clothing is up to people, but it might be respectful to heavy abstainers to wear something modest. The more you abstain the more sensitive you might become, but also the sensitivity can be improved through practice. But on the other hand, why do you want to reveal yourself in the first place?

Sometimes it's hot outside, very hot.

Then it is fine if you have a decent level of control. But sinking one's gaze deep into the eyes of a person enough to reflect upon the looks of their eyes will probably not happen through a standard conversation. And you probably would not be required to sustain eye contact at every second, would you?

            Be well
            Amenuel

            It was just an example.

It is our duty to control ourselves no matter what the other party does even if they go naked.

                    Peace Kanada.

I had a conversation with my wife about "Should I tell my husband I no longer want to wear hijab",her advice made me smile,I will share it with you

"She should tell him, If he disagrees, she should ask him to wear one too, Men and women should have the same rights and treat each other equally?"
Yes I did smile.Just thought I share her view with you here.
                    GOD bless you.

Salam and welcome to the forum )

You mentioned earlier that you did turban hiijab style, did he say anything to that?

why not loosen some hairs and have a fringe showing or something? and wear 3/4 sleeves ?

He might not feel too bad because you're not Arab or born muslim. Though I understand you're in a small muslim community. he wants to make his family proud.. people will frown/talk but they'll get over it. people who know you will know you're a good person regardless of what is worn.

You could always tell him you don't feel comfortable wearing it anymore, you feel it restricts you, need to supplement more with vitD bla bla all the arguments against it you have

of course we all wish that our spouses would be in the same line of thought/belief/perception in certain things but it isn't always the case. Our beliefs are our decisions and are personal between us and God.

Just talk to him, you don't need to go into hadith halal/haram details. We all have faults and we don't do everything 100% but we can try to do good. Sometimes some things can cause misery and make life difficult and can deter us from doing other (good) things.
It might be easier to talk about it now than later

                        good luck!

Due to work, I and my wife are not together, we're working in different cities. But when we get together, she would wear a hijab, becuase she knows I like her looks when she wears one. I don't compel her to wear, but only ask her to dress modestly.

And, in my oppinion, MODESTY is the key, hijab or not. What'd be the point in wearing a hijab if one wears tight clothing, showing off the curves unneccessarily?

We all wear a "hiijab" as in a covering however how people wear this covering differs.

If she wears a hijab for your sake then good for you but some people don't feel comfortable just doing what their husbands ask of them simply because it pleases them esp. if it conflicts with their idea of covering.

Also "tight clothing" is subjective. Headscarves have a social context which is more than just a religious devotion/act. For this reason the tightness isn't as serious as whether hair is showing or not. it's an identity which can make the issue of wearing or removing a headscarf more complex than it is

Butthis wht I think is meant in aya 24.30 and first art of aya 24.31 which are alike

                                1. Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty that will make for greater purity for them And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

                                2. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty;...

These injonctions comprise two clear parts one regarding oneself and one regarding others. That is how we keep our physical intimacy and how you keep the intimacy of others by guarding what we look at. Both things are our resonsibility and no amount of somebodyelse's resonsibility falls on us or is going to rub on us.

And finally it all amounts to self respect. We hve a dignity, a human dignity which is our realm and our attribution. We are not going to put it in anybody else's hands, are we?

                                Salaam

I hope this will help to answer all your questions about Hijab. Your explanation of 2430 and 2431 are also being disputed in this article.

                                  http//www.quran-islam.org/articles/women_dress_code_(P1150).html

No need to talk about subjective stuff like "dignity" it really depends on culture.

lower your gaze mean, while looking at somebody dnt look in a lustful way...

in general looking into the eyes of somebody is not a sin or avoiding thingie.. if we read full topic its about guarding our modesty/private parts .. so the act of sin(sex) started with lustful gaze.. we cannot apply it to other gaze i.e

if a doctor is talking with me i must have to look in the eyes of doctor
if a student and teacher talks with eachother they must look in to eachother eyes
if a co-worker ask something from me she must look in to my eyes and ask me where the files are?

this chapter 24 is about a specific subject we need to understand this book is from intelligent/supreme being..

2430 Tell the believing men to lower their gaze(lustful looking) and keep covered their private parts(sex), for that is better for them(if they will not look with lustful eyes the action of sin will not occur). God is fully aware of what you do( he is aware what is going on in our minds.. a lustful gaze or a general gaze)

i just put brackets in it by my own to make this verse more clear... actually each and every single verse contain plantey of messages in one go.. if we carefully inspect the wordings.. make sure this book is a master piece of beauty...

our elders interpret this verse in their own way and its a fatwa/law which make shake hand with opposite sex a catagory of sin with the support of baseless hadith...

if a girl shake hand with their cousins the brothers of that girl are ready to beat her in their first chance.. height of ignorance...
