I am happy to find this site. I was deeply religious all my life which is quite strange in this culture (am dutch).
My experiences with christianity in youth were disastrous . Later i discovered that this was only due to the people, and the institute, but that God does exist and is above everything.I read many books about religion and prayed alone. I even became interested in new age meditation but those that i found were all after money and power, and their meditation methods all of them were dangerous.About ten years ago, on internet i heard quran and fell in love with quran and islam totally and fully. All doubts gone but the visits to the mosques and my trying to adapt to the sunni lifestyle were very clumsy.
Having to dress up in hijab etc for a big fat old lady, i tripped over the clothes, I reject those clothes.They make me ill and have nothing to do with Allah for me. i did not fit in with the other women,and those of my age did not or only little speak english or dutch. etc. etc. i am sure many of you recognize all this.
I also had the feeling that for muslim ladies what counted was the hijab (as dark and uncomfortable as possible), reciting quran and in fact also being married and housewife. But my feelings have nothing to do with that at all.
I have full respect for decent christians muslims etc. Just express my personal experiences here.So this site is very good for me for support. I hope that in the future there will be mosques for quranists.
I study arabic now and try to pray as well as i can and read a lot. Religion is for me the only real importance in life.
I think i am one of the oldest people here or maybe the oldest, i hope that is no problem. -

I am happy that you have found this site as well and I hope that you will find the discussions, debates, and conversations here to be of interest to you. I also hope that you find our members to be cordial, thoughtful, and respectful.
Your story sounds not disimilar to many of the people here. It will be interesting to see how Islam forms as it penetrates the West more and more. Islam always has its own flavor in each region of the world it reaches it seems.

I suppose we all have been through what you explained, and women mostly, we even get at some point to the thought of "so God is not for us" giveupBut don't give up. This forum has personally helped me understand a lot, but mostly I pray God to enlighten us all and open our minds and hearts.

Heb je facebook? Ik kom niet heel vaak meer. Soms is het wel interessant om te weten hoe andere denken over de Koran. Echter wordt ik hier heel vaak afgewezen als ik het ook over de Bijbel heb.
In iedere geval, zonder God's kracht kennen wij geen Leiding. Moge God jouw daarom Leiding schenken. Je kan me altijd pmen.

Het probleem bij een "Koranistische" moskee is weer dat de meeste ten minste dan ook de Bijbel verwerpen, omdat ze alsnog de doctrine die ze vroeger hebben meegekregen accepteren. Want de Koran zegt zeker dat de Torah, de Psalmen en het Evangelie zijn neergezonden door God? Waarom zou Hij zeggen in 547, "laat ze regeren met het Evangelie"? Of "in de Torah staan de oordelen van God", of "geloof in alle Boeken en Profeten"?
Dus kijk daar voor uit, ik snap niet waarom "ex-christenen" de Bijbel verwerpen. Ik ken er maar 1tje uit Tel Aviv die zowel in de Koran als in de Bijbel gelooft. Zo zie je maar hoe gevaarlijk het is om naar mensen te luisteren terwijl die Boeken heel wat anders zeggen. Luister daarom vooral niet naar mij, ik kan je enkel adviseren om de Koran te lezen, en de Bijbel te lezen, en vooral in de originele talen zoals het Hebreeuws, Aramees, Grieks en Arabisch om zo verkeerde vertalingen en doctrines te vermijden. En vermijdt helemaal verhaaltjes in naam van, zoals de overleveringen in naam van Mohammed en datgene wat het Vaticaan propageerd of de Talmud etc.
Als je facebook hebt kan je mij toevoegen.., desnoods nummers uitwisselen.., ik sta zowat in mijn eentje en natuurlijk God waar ik op hoop dat Hij zijn hand over mij strekt.., het is een wonder dat ik de Koran zowel de Bijbel mag geloven..
In iedere geval, kijk ook uit voor deze site, niet alles wat hier wordt gezegt klopt, en de meeste zijn tegen de Bijbel, dit hebben ze slechts gekopieerd van de sektes die ze hebben verlaten.., moge God ons allen verlossen. Ik zou zeggen focus je op de komst van de Messias. Werk, op internet, youtube, facebook, verkondig het Evangelie. Z'n moskee, ik wens je veel succes, maar als het een "koranistische" wordt zou je beter je tijd kunnen besteden, of ik vraag God om je te helpen, echter is het niet verstandig om de Bijbel links te laten liggen wat wel door de meeste "koranisten" wordt gedaan. Ik heb hier gepredikt, totdat ik gebanned werd. Dus mijn tijd zit hier op, soms kom ik terug om vragen te stellen maar het is niet meer zoals vroeger ofzo, we moeten verder.

Being religious doesn't necessarily mean being close to God and vice versa...
Be humble and you will be 'close' to God.. metaphorically speaking.. as God is actually here there and everywhere..
Meditation by itself is a good technique for reflection and obtaining peace within yourselves.. which actually should be your ultimate goal..
Human abuse of anything for their own selfish benefits is quite common to be found within any religion, I'm not so surprised there...
