Do you guys agree with this article?
    http//www.quran-islam.org/articles/halal_meat_(P1156).html

    Why yes or why no?

If I for example were to buy chicken (without a halal label on it) from a simple (not islamic) supermarket and just mention the name of God on it before I eat it, does that make it halal?

    That article is reasonable.

To my knowledge, the primary difference between certified "Halal" meat and ordinary meat in Europe/USA is that the former is "blessed" prior to slaughter. This "blessing" is commonly done via an audio recording that is played in the background on repeat/loop.

The Quran is pragmatic and fairly clear on this issue, e.g. 2236 states mention/recall/remember God's name upon them prior to slaughter if one is doing the slaughter, BUT in 54 it allows for this to be done AFTER the animal has been caught (and likely killed) by hunting dog/bird. In other words, if one is in a position to mention/remember/recall the name of God prior to slaughter that's fine, but it can also be done after the animal has been killed.

Some may consider 54 an exception but taking into account the wider context (see article) the evidence seems to suggest the above is the sensible interpretation.

Of course there is advantages to doing the slaughter as it would likely mean you know how the animal has been reared, fed, treated etc. Being humane towards animals is an underlying aim, see
    http//misconceptions-about-islam.com/halal-meat.html

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

We should study the Torah to understand this whole "Halal" doctrine. Doesn't the Quran tell the people of the Book that they have no bases if they do not uphold the Torah and the Gospel, and we know for certain that the Quran also is a Book.

How can someone understand the alphabet when learning just the last few letters. How can someone understand a book by reading only the last volume?

Especially with ruling, we see that sects do not know when or how to stop when it comes to "Halal" and "Haram". So watch out, make your homework guys!

How many times did God call the Torah and the Gospel a guidance. We can't ignore it, and take sites as free-minds etc. as the guidance and the light over them. That's plain idolatry.

I advice all of you to read the Torah to understand subjects like "Halal" food. It's very very detailed when it comes to the details.

For example, i stopped eating shrimps, because i see it as "Not Halaal", just like pigs etc.

      Salaam,

The choice is yours but the way I see it is thus,

The verse you mentioned is 'tell the people of the book that they have no basis until they uphold the Torah and the gospel and what is revealed in this from your Lord, and what is revealed in this will certainly increase many of them in transgression' or thereabouts

Make life way for yourself, Quran clearly states that 'this day all good foods are made lawful for you.. except what is mentioned (as haram) that being blood, the flesh of swine, 'dead meat' and that which is dedicated to other than God unless afflicted to do so without the desire to be in opposition to God, for example if that's all you have or you live in a country where all food is dedicated to idols etc

The judgement of God is the best to follow

You raised a valid point though of the necessity of those who follow Quran to read the previous scriptures, because it helps to fill in the blanks, for example the saying that all food was lawful to the children of Israel except what Israel forbade himself before the Torah was revealed, without looking into the tanakh I would not have a clue what it was talking about

Sadly the fact that many of us neglect the previous scriptures in favour of the Quran, the whole Quran and nothing but the Quran leads to many a division and allot of misguidance, especially since we should strive to learn Arabic to understand the Quran, and if one knows Arabic you can pretty much pick up on much of the bible, although the script is harder to read, and God only ever mentions one book. As far as I understand

      Peace

That article doesn't talk about animal welfare. Factory farm raised animals are not halal because of the way the animals are treated. We shouldn't be supporting an industry that abuses animals and deprives them of their basic needs such as space, fresh air, grass, and sunlight.

"And the earth He has made for all creatures." (5510)

"He brought forth from it its water and pasture.
And the mountains He fixed firmly.
All this to be a provision for you and your livestock." (7931-33)

Why would humans have livestock if they're not going to eat them?

Yes God has made the earth for all creatures, yet in his system these creatures eat each other. Thus nothing wrong with eating beef, chicken or wtvr.

For males, going vegan or vegetarian decreases testosterone, unless that male goes on a strict diet which becomes very hard to maintain.

Peace, you shouldn't assert that something is not halal when God has not forbidden it explicitly, as we are reminded in the Quran, it is inventing a lie about God

Not sure where you got your information from but studies show the opposite actually, vegan men have higher testosterone. Look it up.

Ok so better treatment of animals, I thought you're one of those vegans that would start shaming people for eating meat, since your first post is kinda related to that.

I'm sorry but studies show that vegans have lower testosterone unless they go on very strict diets which makes it very hard to maintain for long periods of time. Ofcourse you'll find different points of view from different sources. In the end it just depends on personal preferences.

Depends who's funding the studies and how much exercise the participants get..
When it comes to vegan diet, idk what this "strict diet" is that you're talking about. Simply increasing fat intake will raise T. levels. Obviously the focus should be on eating healthy fats, not saturated fat. Most healthy fats come from plants anyway.

Saturated fat is the healthy fat. The rest is bad. The misconception that saturated fat is dangerous comes from combining carbs with saturated fat, while we should be eating mainly fat and not carbs

It's not a "misconception" when over 400 metabolic ward studies show that higher saturated fat intake increases cholesterol and the ONLY thing that promotes atherosclerosis is cholesterol. Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide so I'd say saturated fat is pretty dangerous.

You misunderstood me. I said that saturated fat is dangerous when our main source of energy is carbohydrates. Otherwise, saturated fat increases HDL (good cholesterol) and decreases LDL (bad cholesterol)...

It's a misconception because our bodies are meant to be on fat rather than carbohydrates. Note that obesity increases at the same time as the world switches to carbohydrates (by the end of 1970s).

The thing with vegan diet is the amount of fats that you get is always pretty low, thus we would have to increase our food intake and eat like there is no tomorrow. Vegan diets are also pretty low in proteins, thus men tend to go towards soy which decreases testosterone. It's always best to have some of everything.

Anyways It's useless arguing about this "vegan" topic. I am against animal cruelty, how animals are treated in farms and what they are doing to dogs, cats, cayotes in China, Korea and many other Asian countries.

                                        Yes, no )

These hundred studies are done while already eating carbohydrates.

                                        Carbohydrates+fat=increased LDL
Saturated fat as main energy source instead of carbohydrates=Increased HDL levels, decreased LDL levels.

Even unsaturated fat lowers cholesterol overall when minimizing carbohydrate intake

We are meant to live off fat, which saturated fat makes out the most.

Anyways It's useless arguing about this "vegan" topic. I am against animal cruelty, how animals are treated in farms and what they are doing to dogs, cats, cayotes in China, Korea and many other Asian countries.
