The nature of the Throne of God

Salam All,
What is your idea based on the Quran about the nature of the THRONE of God?
Being bought up with a christian education I always thought it was a big golden chair with diamonds and other precious stones with an old guy with while hair and a white beard.
That came partly from trying to imagine that The Christ was the son of God as well as being God....
I know these thoughts are hearsay typical of the kind of stuff that makes up the Hadith.Now since I have been practicing being a Muslim or some who submits his purpose to the will of God and in trying to to good, I have a different interpretation - especially after reading the Quran.
To me now it seems that the throne is something by which God influences everything in the heavens and the earth - by being close to everything as well as being in another Dimension.
So when God created everything and then mounted the Throne to ordain everything for everything it almost feels like the Quran is definitely more than just the simplistic concept of a chair.
Indeed, mounting the throne to enact power on everything seems like a process similar to the creation of everything.
It does not seem to be a process where someone climbs up on a cozy chair to rest (for we know that God is ALL-POWERFUL).
Therefore, if the Christian and Jewish brethren really wanted to celebrate a Sabbath or day of Rest on Sunday, it seems more fitting to celebrate these days as days where God mounted the throne (NOT TO REST) but to enact HIS power on all creation.
In other words not days of rest but days of the glorification of the power of God.I would be interested in other opinions based on Quranic discourse. Thanks.

The way I understand this subject from Qoran
A king needs the following
1- A dominion
2- subjects
3- Authority.
A throne is a symbol of being the most important /highest /aboveSince GOD created everything, GOD is the only King who has the claim over all His dominion and subjects. Hence He controls everything /Authority/High/above all His creations.
The throne is a symbol of power over the dominion and subjects. Everything belongs to Him.
Something like that!

Do you mean the quranic word Arsh or Kursi or maybe some other word?
Or just the English word Throne?Hi Bender,
I don't now what is Arsh is but I believe it mean Kursi.
I thought this was translated as throne but could be wrong.Either way also the Throne is meant.

I went through the link you sent - and indeed that is my understanding.
Is that your website? I think you or the author refers to "limited free will" that humans have.Even if humans if humans have more will or limited will, how can this be reconciled with God being All-Knowing.
I have to find the exact verse where I read it - yet, I thought I read the God tests us in each situation as to how we react.
I think that when we humans think about destiny/Will of God vs will of humans we tend to think in absolutes, but there are a certain set of parameters which govern the interplay between destiny/Will of God vs. will of humans.
I often think to my own life - how I have tried really hard multiple times to achieve an objective - before I became a Muslim of followed Islam, I used to think that the purpose of life was to be followed by other humans - not to follow other humans - and also to try and have statues made of me. I am not saying that I set out to achieve these objectives but I thought that I could potentially achieve these objectives by trying hard (as an end objective).
I also thought that to earn a lot and to have lots of material wealth was important - but one thing I have learnt is that we never really get rich - the more that we earn the more that we spend...This USED to my idea of me following my will.
Now I don't believe in material wealth as I used to and have let go of nearly all my needs that I needed money for - as a result I feel even more rich now than I ever was in any part of my life.
I felt that there were certain objective that I USED to try and achieve that I could never achieve, no matter how hard I tried. Even if I tried different ways I could not achieve those objectives.
I didn't realize then, but perhaps that was because those objectives were not in my life.Since 2010 - I started to live a different philosophy - If something worked for me or even if something didn't work for me, I would try and embrace it.
I would look for signs to what I was meant to achieve or not achieve. By this I mean major things, like selling my house and moving to a different European country or quitting my job (due to the unethical nature of the job) and looking for a sign to do something else - pretty major things. Everything seemed like a major deal - but I did put my trust in God and ask God to help me.
When ever anything bad happens to me - I try and embrace it - and understand what else I should do.
Sorry to waffle on, but this subject is of great importance to me - I know that God is all around us and I really want to spend the remainder of the time I have left in this lower life by trying to perform actions that are pleasing to God (Good things in general and to people around me). I want God to be happy with me and grant me success in the hereafter - as much as this life has its physical pleasure for us fallible lowly humans, it is a life ruined by those who think they are the chess players and rulers - who create misery, hatred, death and destruction. I do feel the lowly sentiment of love for humans around me, but I do long for paradise after this short miserable life - that I am actually grateful for - for if I wasn't then I would not appreciate the honor of the test I have in this lower life to achieve success in the hereafter.

Thata I have noticed there are two words in the Qur'an which are translated as throne referring it to God, one is kursi, which appears in the well known aya al kursi, and the other is 3arsh.
I think they are both different.
Primary meaning of root k-r-s seems to be to put the foundationsof something.
Whereas 3-r-sh primary meaning seems to be to erect som structure.
So both 3arsh and kursi seem to point to two different powers and to complement each other.

Yes brother,I have similar understanding about living this life and accepting GOD s will and His system .
GOD has already offered us the "Amana"( responsibility,freedom to make our decisions/...)before we came to this life and we accepted to undergo this "final chance/trial to accept His kingdom/system or otherwise (be away from it).So in short with pain here, there is gain in the hereafter.
And,yes it is my website but I do not take any credit as everything belongs to GOD. GOD taught Adam everything there is to know,GOD is the source of knowledge and everything we possess.
GOD gives us our intelligence ,body and mind. We either accept to be dependent on GOD Alone or go it on our own.
I have made the choice to accept GOD Alone and try my best to connect/have a relationship/be under His protection/rely totally on Him.
If I go astray it is my own doing and if I am guided it is because of my Lord.

Thanks for your insight into the issues I am struggling with.
Incidentally I don't know if I am reading too much into it but you mention - you try to "connect" with God.
This is actually what I think Salat is - do you mean something similar or are CONNECTION and SALAT with/to God two separate things for you?
I think that meditation, bowing/prostration, reading/understanding the Quran, supplication, rembrance are ways to perform Salat.
This is another aspect where my understanding is evolving.
This is probably off topic but am really curious about what other Quran-only Muslims make of SALAT - I have yet to venture to the relevant forum thread.
