Question to those Quran-Only Muslims who perform Fajr & Isha Sakat
-
Salam All,
This is a question for only those Quran-only Muslims who regularly perform Fajr and Isha Salat (ie around Dawn & Dusk) - and especially if you live in the northern hemisphere.
In the northern hemisphere the time for Fajr Salat becomes very early in the morning where one would have to get up at around 0300.
Having performed Fajr, it can be difficult to sleep again before having to wake and start one's occupation.Isha salat gets quite late - ie around 2150.
So by the time one winds down and goes to sleep at night and then wakes up again at 0300 or even 0400, it means one can be sleeping around only 4 hours a night.
How do you cope with these kind of times, especially with Fajr Salat?
Thanks & Salam

Living in the UK for example sees the day change from 6 hours long in winter to 19 hours long in summer. The night also alternates accordingly. Fajr and Isha also alternate.
GOD obviously designed the day and night to alternate as part of his plan here on earth
2562He is the One who designed the night and the day to alternate... for those who wish to take heed, or to be appreciative.
I personally compensate for my lack of sleep at night in summer by taking a nap in the long afternoon. As long as you develop a system around your busy life of work and family ,the Salat takes a very short time from our schedules.
Once you go through the process of winter ,summer a couple of times you get used to it.
Also GOD said "When we can"- Fa Ittaqu Allah Ma Istataatum- meaning GOD understands the times that you are busty or ill or very tired or have emergencies.Verses like this one come to mind with this sort of question you are asking2564
In the privacy of the night, they meditate on their Lord, and fall prostrate.
In summer ,between Isha ,fajr and the Qoran stydy at fajr ,it seems like a whole night of dedication to the Lord!
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
GOD bless you.

Salam good logic,
Thanks for your insight. Yet the 4 hours of sleep I seem to be getting now are painful.
During the middle of May Fajr time starts very early around 1.15 am and some Hadthist I used to know would perform their Fajr salat at 1.15 am and the sleep.
I am not sure if such a system is correct and as this is my first year as being a Quran-only Muslim I am trying to explore this issue. It becomes more pertinent during the traditionalist Ramadan that is due soon.

Peace.Salam good logic,
Do you use astronomical twilight for Fajr or another time?
Where I live it first sign of sunlight is seen at 1 am at the end of May.

No Ed, I use the normal Fajr 2 hours before sunrise.
For example Isha is around 1030-1130 PM in May and Fajr is around 345-445 AM
That is the window times I use.
GOD bless you.

Peace.Hi good logic,
When you say normal - is this is a Quranic interpretation? Do you have any links I can explore?
I have been doing a lot of research yesterday into this and find that the sun has to go 18 degrees the horizon for their to be true darkness.
So when the sun rises it does so by rising above 18 degrees.
However, in places north in Europe (I don't live in London) - the sun never goes below 18 degrees after the 15th May - so there is always sunlight over the summer period. It does create an interesting situation.

I have been doing a lot of research yesterday into this...Just make sure you check with Qoran,and/or what is best if no contradiction with Qoran.
Now, when GOD says "If you cannot fast... Give some money to the poor...It is because GOD is aware of certain places on earth( Where the sun does not set...) and aware of illness, and so forth.
Now for those kind of places, there are timed habits of breakfast, lunch, dinner and of course going to bed. One then does their best to connect with GOD even if it appears the wrong time/daylights/nigh time...GOD understands.
GOD has defined the day and night in Qoran ,GOD also uses terms KABLA GHURUB AL SHAMS..or KABLA TOULUH AL SHAMS...etc i.e periods of day and night. Day= sun visible in horizon,,night =sun covered by horizon(913-4).
Maghrib= sun set, Fajr approx 2 hours before sunrise, Isha approx 2 hours after sunset...That is my understanding .
GOD bless you.

Peace.Salam good logic,
Thanks again for your insight.
Indeed you are right - any information I research must be in concordance with the Quran.I have been doing research specifically on when the sun rises in the part of the UK where I live. Lets assume this is Glasgow for the sake of argument (a city and a people I like a lot).
So I did some internet searches to find out when the sun rises in Glasgow.
I discovered the concept of COMPLETE DARKNESS (when the sun has set) and the stars are apparent - through the darkness of the night - all the way through to when the sun rises. Before the sun rises is Dawn - when the Fajr Salat starts I think!
I learnt that whilst for me the sun just rises and sets, there are phases for the astronomers - these phases for SUNRISE vary from when the sun is below the horizon (DARKNESS) to when it is above the horizon (SUNRISE). Inbetween these stages one still begins to see light due to refraction- we get COMPLETE DARKNESS (No Sunlight visible at all)
- we get ASTRONOMICAL DAWN when the sun goes above 18 degrees below the horizon (Sunlight visible)
- we get NAUTICAL DAWN when the sun goes above 12 degrees below the horizon (Sunlight Visible)
- we get CIVIL DAWN when the sun goes above 6 degrees below the horizon (Sunlight Visible)
- we get SUNRISE (SUN visible)
So from an astronomical perspective the earliest dawn before sunrise occurs with Astronomical Dawn.
(https//www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/astronomical-twilight.html)
Now starts the work in relation to the Quran - I will have to work out the translations to determine the differences between the DARK OF NIGHT in relation to DAWN and SUNRISE to determine the time of Fajr Salat - and then also Isha Salat.
Over Summer in my part of the UK the sun always gives SUNLIGHT (it is always ASTRONOMICAL DAWN).
In relation to fasting - I have done this for the last decade and it is actually just starting to get easy again slowly.
However as fasting occurs over the summer period, it leaves very little time between breaking the fast and starting the fast and very little time to sleep.
The problem is that when one has a full-time occupation one cannot afford to sleep for only 3 or 4 hours a night.Salam
