    17.2-3

It is either Musa, or the meaning of the sentence would be

We gave Moses the Book, and made it a Guide to the Children of Israel so that they would not take as Disposer of (your) affairs instead of Me "dhurriyatA" "progeny" of whom we carried with Nuh?

I think it is rather Musa, but please comments.

    Salaam

Me?? I don't understand that part, this is God talking, not Moses or Noah.

dhurriyatA is accusative, please, it does not refer to Musa, to whom does it refer? The only one I can see that it can refer to is Musa. If it is not him, then please show to whom it refers.

        Salaam

        It's referring to Israel

          It's referring to Israel

From what do you deduce that gramatically?

            Salam Upon All ,

I will be updating this thread according to

26-111 They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest ?"
26-114 And I am not one to drive away the believers.
26-118 Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."
26-119 So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
26-120 Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.

            And According to this

37-75 And Noah had certainly called Us, and the best of responders.
37-76 And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.

37-77 And We made his progeny those remaining

            And according to this

11-45 And Nuh called to his Rabb and said, "Rabbi , indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!"

              Alsalm 3alikum

Excellent post brother Alkitabm, I do agree with your observation on 17-2/3
also the context of the following verses confirm what you've said that the verse is talking about Israel progeny and not Mousa.

But the verse posted by sister Ayisha indicate that there we prophets from the progeny of Israel,

              45.16

              doesn't mean prophethood ?

              Thank you,

Where on earth do you get this false prophets to do with Israel from???

45.16 We did aforetime grant to the Children of Israel the Book the Power of Command, and Prophethood; We gave them, for Sustenance, things good and pure; and We favoured them above the nations.

As Torah says too they were favoured by God because they were from Abrahams line through Isaac as I went through on the other Israel thread. GOD is saying the prophets are from this line and YOU claim they are the line of false prophets?? Seriously where do you get this from??

                Salam Aa'layek Brother ,

                yes ( / Al-nobowah) mean prophet-hood or prophecy (English translation )

Yes i agree that prophecy was through Israel progeny too ( but still not 100 % sure about it ) I may update this , the word/verb ( Atayna . / We give ) in many verse in the Quran doesn't not necessarily mean that the ones who ( Outou . / was given ) (Al-kitab / The scripture) were prophets , the ones who uphold and judge with the scripture that was sent to a messenger who was inside them are called (Aladina Outou Al-kitab . /

5-44 We did reveal the Torah, wherein is guidance and a light, by which the prophets ,who submitted , judged the Aladina Hadou, and the rabbis and the priests by such of Allah's Scripture as they were bidden to observe, and thereunto were they witnesses. So fear not mankind, but fear Me. And do not exchange my revelations for a little gain. Whoever judge not by that which Allah has revealed such are disbelievers.

-The rabbis and the priests are the ones who ( Outou . / was given ) (Al-kitab / The scripture)
-The Aladina Hadou are (Ahl-Al-kitab. / People of the scripture/book) , ordinary people that freely accept , submitted to be judged by the prophets , the rabbis the priest according to the scripture.

What makes me more think ( update) that prophets was among Israel progeny too is this verse

19 -85 Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets from among the progeny of Adam and from among whom We carried with Noah, and from among progeny of Abraham and Israel, and from among whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

                So Prophets from among
                The progeny of Adam
                Whom We carried with Noah
                Progeny of Abraham AND Israel
                whom We guided AND chose

So Yes most probably prophet ( Al-nabyeen.&#1606 was from among the progeny of Israel , even if i think that the verse 5-20 is literally distinguishing that kings were among Bani Israel as for prophets they were only withing them

5-20 And , when Moses said to his community , "O my community, remember the favor of Allah upon you when He appointed within you prophets and made you Kings and gave you that which He had not given anyone among the worlds.

                  Israel was Abraham's grandson. giveup

                  Salaam
How can Israel be Ibrahim's(AS) grandson when the angels announce name of his grandson to be Jacob, if there is this impression that his name was changed to Israel than why would his fathers/ family change his name which was given to him by God ???
Note that Jacob is never referred to as Isreal by his decendents after his death; 196 represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob.......
                  Salaam

                    I think

17-2 And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs

Why a guidance just for the children of one person - if indeed it is one person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why can't it be a quality of people - and so the scripture is for all the people ..............as no doubt you and everybody else must agree , the scripture was and is for all and every individual.

                    peace

To correct something wrong about the title of this topic Following the verse 1958 , Israel was among the prophets and so in his progeny there are prophets.

Chapter (19) srat maryam (Mary) verse , Ayah ( 5

Sahih International Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

Pickthall These are they unto whom Allah showed favour from among the prophets, of the seed of Adam and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the revelations of the Beneficent were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping.

Yusuf Ali Those were some of the prophets on whom Allah did bestow His Grace,- of the posterity of Adam, and of those who We carried (in the Ark) with Noah, and of the posterity of Abraham and Israel of those whom We guided and chose. Whenever the Signs of (Allah) Most Gracious were rehearsed to them, they would fall down in prostrate adoration and in tears.

Shakir These are they on whom Allah bestowed favors, from among the prophets of the seed of Adam, and of those whom We carried with Nuh, and of the seed of Ibrahim and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose; when the communications of the Beneficent Allah were recited to them, they fell down making obeisance and weeping.

Muhammad Sarwar These were the Prophets from the offspring of Adam, from those who embarked with Noah and from the offspring of Abraham and Israel. God guided them and chose them for His favor. Whenever they would hear the revelations of the Beneficent God they would bow down in prostration with tears.

Mohsin Khan Those were they unto whom Allah bestowed His Grace from among the Prophets, of the offspring of Adam, and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nuh (Noah), and of the offspring of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Israel and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the Verses of the Most Beneficent (Allah) were recited unto them, they fell down prostrating and weeping.

Arberry These are they whom God has blessed among the Prophets of the seed of Adam, and of those We bore with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and of those We guided and chose. When the signs of the All-merciful were recited to them, they fell down prostrate, weeping.

                        After reviewing

The verse 172 ,3 below is speaking about Moses not Israel as being the one carried with Noah in the ship .

                        17-2/3

17-2 And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs,
17-3 progeny of those We carried with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant

Also it was wrong saying that there was no prophets from the progeny of Isreal .

                          Peace / Salam / Shalom /Bonjour...

I lost my previous account Alkitab-الكتاب , iam revewing this topic from my new account based on last updates i had throught my comparative researches from the Quaran and The Bible , i am not saying that is the obsolute truth but i declare that i think now that i was mistaken in some of my previous thoughts in this topic.

I think that Isreal in the bible is refering to the whole progeny from Jacob/Ya39ub , so when Isreal is used it mean the whole progeny , i also declare that i was mistaken saying that there were no prohpets through the progeny of isreal .

I come to this understanding According to Isaiah 4108

41 - 8 " But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend."
