2:98: Who is Michael

Peace,
I would not prefer to have my first post here dwelling on a very specific concept in the Quran. Instead, I would want to tell my views regarding the overall message of the Quran. However, this issue is really boggling my mind
I want to know who Michael is(verse 297-9 and how we can ever avoid being an enemy to him unless we know who he is. And I think we should be able to do that from Quran only.

I guess mine would be a very naive and "common" answer with its roots from Chrisitianity and so forth as I believe Micheal is an angel just like Gabriel. However, I am not sure, this is what I heard from the Christians and Jews (and even most Muslims).

Just thought-Quranic Dictionary
(Wa)-mikal=The word is considered being a combination of "mik" and "al"
meaning and-"who is like God"
But you may note the quranic dictionary does split words sometimes ,
But i suppose even in english there may be words sometimes joined together,like- Don't,shouldn't e.t.c
so may be words are simerlarly joined in arabic aswell .

rooh and angel are not synonims. If yousearch properly malaika and rooh you will see that they are two different and separate things. Angels are "someone", rooh is something. Angels may bring with them the rooh, but they are not the rooh. The rooh appears always in singular and is specific of something, it only comes by God's order.
As to mikaal and jibril in 2.98 I think they are mentionned as such angels, like some specific angels' names to assert within the category angels, to whom we should not be enemies to any of them.
To me mikaal evokes rather root w-k-l, (agency), he functions as an agent of God. Someone very knowledgeable in Arabic morphology and its history might be in a position to do a better analysis.

As for me I find it illogical for the true God, who are all knowing thus in control over everything to have an enemy.Yet by studying ancient history, I found it common for ancient people to see it in such way, given they believe that their deity is a kind of human king, who faced rebellion and make war against their enemy. Some story even suggest that some God are infact warring with each others.
Within Israelites tradition, Mikael along with Gabriel are names for Malakh, Hebrew word for messenger.
Gabriel, Mikael, Uriel and Raphael is in the top hieararchy of Malakh, within Israelites tradition.

Her name is Lorna Byrne, an Irish woman who claimed to be capable of seeing angels and have met on many occasion with Mikael the angel.
You can google her name, as she is quite famous.
She is also quite friendly, so perhaps she could answer your further inquiries regarding Mr. Mikael the angel.
