Lut's family
-
Looking at different accounts given in the Qur'an of Lut's people and family, there is this question that just popped up in my mind
We know Lut had with him his guests, and his family, and we know in the Qur'an we are told about Lut's daughters, about Lut's wife. Do e have mention of any other member of his family. Were there any male members apart from himself? I can't recall any mention of them in the Qur'an, so may be there were or may be there wern't.
Any views, ideas or comments?
As usual, please no bible for me. Particularly in this case the later stories about Lut's daughters in the bible, I find specially tasteless.

In 2931-32, Ibrahim knew him, if i recall although vaugely, wasn't Ibrahim Lut's brother? I could be mistaken.
-
No, Lut is Ibrahim's nephew.
I should have made it clear, when I refer to Lut's family I am referring to his family when he is in the wicked town which was destroyed. His family there ith whom he excpaes from it.

Interesting! Any verse in Al-Qur'an confirms it?
-
Abraham is Lut's father.
Salam/Peace brother Zach. The page & picture is in Arabic. I sadly can't read Arabic. Is there a English translated version of this?

The following passage clearly states that Lot descended from Abraham.
683-86. That is Our argument, which We bestowed upon Abraham as against his people.
We raise up in degrees whom We will; surely thy Lord is All-wise, All-knowing.
And We gave to him Isaac and Jacob; each one We guided -- and Noah We guided before --
and of his seed David and Solomon, Job and Joseph, Moses and Aaron; even so We recompense the good-doers;
Zachariah and John, Jesus and Elias; each was of the righteous;
Ishmael and Elisha, Jonah and Lot -- each one We preferred above all beings.Further proof that Lot is from the offspring of Abraham can be found in the reaction of Abraham?s wife when she received news she was to have Isaac.
- Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!'
It is clear that Abraham?s wife was sterile because of old age and not necessarily throughout her whole life, and so it is possible that she had Lot when she was young. After young Abraham was saved from the fire he prayed to the god to give him a child.
37100-101. 'My Lord, give me one of the righteous.' Then We gave him the good tidings of a prudent boy.
So this boy was Abraham?s son when Abraham himself was still a young man, and this child wasn?t unexpected like Ismail and Isaac. When we follow the sequence of events, we find that this boy (Lot) is the one who reached the age of working with him
- And when he had reached the age of running with him, he said, 'My son, I see in a dream that I shall sacrifice thee; consider, what thinkest thou?' He said, 'My father, do as thou art bidden.'
As for Ismail and Isaac, the god gave them to Abraham when he was old, and so not shortly after he saved him from the fire as the sequence of events show
- 'Praise be to God, who has given me, though I am old, Ishmael and Isaac; surely my Lord hears the petition.'
Putting everything together it becomes clear that Lot is the one Abraham left behind at the inviolable house.
- 'Our Lord, I have made some of my seed to dwell in a valley where is no sown land by Thy Holy House; Our Lord, let them perform the prayer, and make hearts of men yearn towards them, and provide them with fruits; haply they will be thankful.'
So this is why the people of the prophet were told they?re passing by the remnants of the people of Lot.
- And you pass by them in the morning and in the night; will you not understand?
And why Abraham feared for Lot.
2931-32. And when Our messengers came to Abraham with the good tidings, they said, 'We shall destroy the people of this city, for its people are evildoers.' He said, 'Lot is in it.' They said, 'We know very well who is in it; assuredly We shall deliver him and his family, except his wife; she has become of those that tarry.'
In chapter 37, of the messengers whose rejecters were punished by the god, the god says he ?left for them among the later folk?. For example, those who rejected Noah drowned in the flood; so about Noah we hear
3775-78. Noah called to Us; and how excellent were the Answerers!
And We delivered him and his people from the great distress,
and We made his seed the survivors,
and left for him among the later folk.We can see the same expression for Moses and Aaron, because the god destroyed Pharaoh and his soldiers
37114-119. We also favoured Moses and Aaron,
and We delivered them and their people from the great distress.
And We helped them, so that they were the victors;
and We gave them the Manifesting Book,
and guided them in the straight path,
and left for them among the later folk.The same for Elias, because those who rejected him were punished, and the sincere were saved
37123-129. Elias too was one of the Envoys;
when he said to his people, 'Will you not be godfearing?
Do you call on Baal, and abandon the Best of creators?
God, your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients?'
But they cried him lies; so they will be among the arraigned,
except for God's sincere servants;
and We left for him among the later folk.As for Isaac, the god does not say ?he left for him among the later folk? because he didn?t punish those who rejected him
37112-113. Then We gave him the good tidings of Isaac, a Prophet, one of the righteous.
And We blessed him, and Isaac; and of their seed some are good-doers, and some manifest self-wrongers.Similarly, even though we KNOW the god punished those who rejected Lot, the god doesn?t say ?he left for him among the later folk? when Lot is mentioned here
37133-138. Lot too was one of the Envoys;
when We delivered him and his people all together,
save an old woman among those that tarried;
then We destroyed the others,
and you pass by them in the morning
and in the night; will you not understand?BUT notice the same expression is used with the son of Abraham who was ransomed with a great sacrifice
37100-108. 'My Lord, give me one of the righteous.' Then We gave him the good tidings of a prudent boy; and when he had reached the age of running with him, he said, 'My son, I see in a dream that I shall sacrifice thee; consider, what thinkest thou?' He said, 'My father, do as thou art bidden; thou shalt find me, God willing, one of the steadfast.' When they had surrendered, and he flung him upon his brow, We called unto him, 'Abraham, thou hast confirmed the vision; even so We recompense the good-doers. This is indeed the manifest trial.' And We ransomed him with a mighty sacrifice, and left for him among the later folk.

Actually to my question which is the reason of this thread, whether Lut is nephew or son of Ibrahim or even of anybody else does not matter, because as I explained later I was only concerned about the family ho was ith him when the rusul came to his city to save him and his family.
So please, I ould ask again whether anybody has any opinion or vie or idea who might his family then be. We have mention of his daughters, whether blood daughters or spiritual daughters.
As to Lut's ties with Ibrahim, is it talking about the same house here
- 'Our Lord, I have made some of my seed to dwell in a valley where is no sown land by Thy Holy House; Our Lord, let them perform the prayer, and make hearts of men yearn towards them, and provide them with fruits; haply they will be thankful.'
and here
2.125Remember We made the House a place of assembly for men and a place of safety; and take ye the station of Abraham as a place of prayer; and We covenanted with Abraham and Isma'il, that they should sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or use it as a retreat, or bow, or prostrate themselves (therein in prayer). (125)
Please any ideas about Lut's family when the city was destroyed?
