    Hello, everybody

I am having a hard time trying to understand 314 since it seems to throw confusion in many concepts, at least for me

زين للناس حب الشهوت من النساء والبنين والقنطير المقنطرة من الذهب والفضة والخيل المسومة والأنعم والحرث ذلك متع الحيوة الدنيا والله عنده حسن المءاب

    Free-minds translation
It has been adorned for people to love the desire of women, and sons, and ornaments made from gold and silver, and trained horses, and livestock, and fields. These are the enjoyment of the world, and with God is the best abode

It seems to me that it bring confussion because according to the verse

    a) Nass can not be human kind (why to say later "desire for nisa"?)
    b) Nisa can not be women if nass is human kind
    or
    c) "nass" and "nisa" as "human kind" and "women" (or at least one of them) could be a very wrong / poor translation.

I guess this has been pointed out before, I just wanted your opinion on it.

    Thank you so much

There are several elements that are mentionned. It does not mean tht the same person loves the desire for exactly the same elements.

So women indeed can love the desire for sons, or gold and silver, but may be not for cattel or any other choice.

On the other hand for worldly men, the love for the desire of women is a well known fact. omen contribute a lot to the worldly image of worldly men. It is a well known phenomenon.

      Salaam

Thank you so much for your answer. I undestand your point and it was my point too until recently.

In any case I keep thinking a much more neutral word could be used in that case, such as azwajun. The words in the Book are selected by divine inspiration.

So why the used term is nisa and precisely nisa, it keeps me thinking... All the other listed wordly desires are perfectly neutral and common through time and cultures. Why the especification with "nisa"?

The verse says "beautified for mankind is love of desirable things from..."

          from = Arabic min (partitive)

i.e. it does not mean everyone of mankind loves every single thing mentioned in the list

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Bikrun, it is describing precisely something which is very common as far as I know at all times.

Trump because he has manoy, before he as president, did pick very displayable women. Mny known poerful men change model or pick beauty queens or omen reputed for beauty for temselves. The aya is right on target.

It cannot pick a newtral word, because what is showing is the love for making this kind of worldly, mostly showing off,

Women since usually are the powerful ones trying to shoe how they have pcik of all the beautfiul or desirable things in life, figure as desirable trophies, but women ill be shown as desiring jewels, gold and silver...

I find this aya very much on target. It is not saying we should be like that but rathe that it is like that many times and it tends to be like that and is warning merely.

If this concerns us women we should not get angrey because the Qur'an depicts it, but rather be warned and try to make a world here e are not trophys, nor are cheated of our own deapth by means of jewels and the like.

Of course, instead of saying just women He would have been clearer writing trophy women, but I think that the Qur'an addresses people who at least try a little and do not expect to be spoonfed every single thing.

            Salaam

Oh no no, not getting angry at all, I trust the Lord and have no doubt there is no kind of discrimination.
Just, also with Waka's explanation (thank you so much), my doubts still are not dispelled for the same reason. Why the "min" is there could be just as the same way that in English "a water glass" is no the same as a "glass of water"...

Maybe I just need to pray and concentrate

              Than you all

                Bikrun Salam...
Same question was raised by few of my female friends quite few years back... 314 is meant for Men though it refere as Naas (common for men and women) ... But Nisa cannot be male, if anyone conclude that's only his personal whim... Why I presented preceding and following verses here is with intent.. Coz 314 intent for the Men who involved in War as an enticing factor but real and not mere luring.. We have to consider when God considers Nisa it's women with lusts. Not mother or sisters or girls or old women.. How can thoae women be desire. And you gotta consider this was a period when people bury female children alive and they hated female girls to be born as their children. So this women mentioned only can be women with intention of lust. .and the next verse 315 says "Shall I tell you something BETTER than that. " that for Muththakun and see the difference and in it mentioned aswaj instead of Nisa... When God speakl to Man we have to get it right. . Gender differences and preferences given are Gods will.. No women can claim why we only should bear a child.. How unfair that is... Iblees was proud and jealous on human coz iblees started to see difference which God willed... True Surrenderer will not discriminate...

313 There has already been a sign for you in the two companies that encountered, one company fighting in the way of God and another unbelieving; they saw them twice the like of them, as the eye sees, but God confirms with His help whom He will. Surely in that is a lesson for men possessed of eyes
314 Decked out fair to men is the love of lusts -- women, children, heaped-up heaps of gold and silver, horses of mark, cattle and tillage. That is the enjoyment of the present life; but God -- with Him is the fairest resort
315 Say 'Shall I tell you of a better than that?' For those that are godfearing, with their Lord are gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein dwelling forever, and spouses purified, and God's good pleasure. And God sees His servants...
                Verify pls.
                God bless you

Nothing wrong . Women desires women

It has been adorned men and women to love the desire of women.

                    Peace Bikrun,

The verse is not meant to offend you nope It is an analogy, It is meant to teach you!
Allah is conveying that, the things that are prized in this world should not be the sole purpose
                    of our existence.

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and
mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children.
                    as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller;
afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw.

                    peace
