    Salam to All,

    An-Nahl 1615

And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and rivers and roads, that you may be guided,

Now this verse tells me that mountains have been set to prevent the earth /land from moving

But this goes contrary to the known science of geology that say the earth shakes (earthquakes). So how is it the mountains prevent the earth from shaking while we have earthquakes. Also this verse as I understand says mountains are firmly set into the ground something like anchor or stabilizer. But science say mountain moves I.e mountain are not motionless.

But again there is this vesre

    An-Naml 2788

And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. the work of Allah, who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with that which you do.

    I am confused

So the good people here help me with the understanding

    God bless you all

        Salam Imran,

What is your intake on those two verses. Mountain preventing shifting /swaying /shaking the land/earth and mountains motion in the 2788

What i think the second verse is we see with our naked eyes that the mountains are rigid/firm, but actually there is a motion which geological process that we can't see with our naked eyes to make us see that actually the mountains is motion.

But I just can't figure out the first verse 1615

        God bless you

The verb in1615 is from the root mm y dl ( &#1583 which means to move.

In your translation = Lest, whereas = that as per following verses

            932

They wish that they blow out Allah's noor

            2184 ......

.....and that you do saum, better for you.....

            1615

and cast mountains in the earth that it moves with you....

            Hope it helps.

              peace Novice,

              Here is an example of

              = Lest

              4176
              (part of verse)

              ....

... Allah makes clear to you lest you go astray. And Allah of every thing (is) All-Knower.

... yubayyinu l-lahu lakum an taill wal-lahu bikulli shayin almun.

Yes it can mean "that" "lest" or "if". We have to see which meanings fit best in a verse.

                God bless you.

it depends on what is your scientific belief, if you believe in spinning and rotating earth then the above verse won't make sense as you are going through but if you believe in stationary earth scientifically then the verse will make sense.. coz earth will anyway shake when there is earthquake for example but it won't move from it's place coz of mountains and its pegs.. but if you believe earth is round and it anyway moving...

But again there is this vesre

meanwhile your second verse 2788 has nothing to do with the mountains what you see now... they don't move.. it all meant for the day of resurrection when the trumpet is blown, note the previous verse 2787....

                    God guide us...

                      Peace Novice,

                      What does moves refer to

                      • Earth's rotation on its axis.
                      • Earth's revolution around the Sun.
                      • Other.
