    Salaam to all.

Verse 326(...You grant dignity to whomever You choose, and commit to humiliation whomever You choose...) What conclusion should we draw from this verse??
Becuase it seems that dignity and humiliation is not earned rather it can be given by Allah at random to anyone according to his will..is not it unjustice??

Dr.shabbir has translated as....You have established laws for attaining honor and facing humiliation... This sounds logical and reasonable but on what basis he translated like this and rest all the authors translated just the opposite??

    Any thoughts??

    Wasalaam.

      Peace brother..

The verse you refer.. Most of the translations has no issue.. But Dr. Shabir's has..

First of all verse starts with Qul / Say.. So we have to say.. Isn't it..
We know dominion is God's.. He gives His dominion as He wills and remove from anyone as He wishes.. (This is one part of the verse)
The HONOR and HUMILIATION.. (another part of the verse)
What is real honor and real humiliation..? Do we expect them from Human or God..

Real honor when God accepts one and bless and honor him or her with favor ..
Real humiliation is also from God when he discard us... God doesn't refer here what people honor and people humiliate.. People are blind most of the time to respect one who doesn't deserve and humiliate one who deserves respect ..
God never judge erroneously... Verse itself clear that God honors and God humiliates and not human..

Shabir directly addressed the verse to human to human honor and humiliation ..
God not established law to ATTAIN honor.. First of all there is no such words in the verse to coin it as such..
Second, law is not established for attaining honor of people.. But for our compliance and for betterment and our correction and our perception and our salvation in the end .. Abiding law makes a society peaceful.. Honor only from God..
Law is not established for facing humiliation... Law is for the well-being of society and for their success.. God never established law to humiliate people.. Law is for guidance and adherence.. I wonder how Sabir's translations made much sense rather than God's real verse..

God humiliate when thoroughly warned... God honors when thoroughly tested.

      4139 " ... Honor belongs to Allah completely "

Dignity and humiliation is earned throughout life in the eyes of God .. God decides whome to humiliate based on their action and whome to honor based on their action..
      It's all in god's hand..
Giving the Mulk is God's will and not based on their action and it's not honor. King pharoa was given the Mulk of Misr not coz he deserves... Or it was not an honor for pharoa.. It's a test.. God tests people with good and bad rulers by entrusting his Mulk.

2135 " .... And We test you with evil and with good as trial..."

Honor, blessing and favor are all different type.. Don't confuse them..

Why should God humiliate a true believer
In this world or hereafter? Read all humiliation verses for better grip..
So it is not random picked to honor and humiliate but well thought by God..

        Peace,

Say "Our god, Possessor of kingship; You grant kingship to whom You please, and revoke kingship from whom You please, and honor whom You please, and humiliate whom You please; in Your hand is goodness. You are capable of all things." (326)

I would think the verse is straightforward. God can grant kingship/power and take it away...(e.g. David/Solomon being granted kingship, and Pharaoh being humiliated).

You assume that God's judgement is made in a vacuum, and that God is disconnected from the people, and that God's will is driven by randomness of choices and decision. Sounds like a fake god to me

            Peace everyone...

As you say it's pretty straightforward the verse is... But not for AZ..
First as you gave example of Sulaiman and King pharoa is much plain..
But second part of the verse some may think it's linked with first part that those who are given kingship are honored...No.. Giving kingship or wealth is not honor from God... So when it was taken from them it has to be humiliation... No... Sulaiman was taken from his Arsh for sometime.. Not to humiliate.. God never humiliate the same he honored... God must have reason to honor..
God could be honoring true believers be it a king or wealthy person or poor or common man... God honors.. We don't know what is it.. God knows.. May be the real pleasure of being guided is an honor for true believer when he sees the disbelievers around him.... .
But humiliation from God is manifest.. It's not being poor, it's not being tested with hardship, but misguided and lives in total error and sometimes devastated with destructions .. That's humiliation...

My understanding giving kingship to Sulaiman or pharoa or anyone is not honor from God... Or imprisoning Yousuf or suffering of Ayyub is not humiliation either... Giving kingship or wealth is clear FAVOR over others.. God favors.. And no one to question why.. It's His will..

God only deserves Honor... God only honors others.. If one thinks coz of kingship or wealth he posses God has honored him, he is absolutely wrong.. But God has favored... This favor can be a huge test and blessing same time..
Sometimes it's a request accomplished.. Like Sulaiman requested from God.. So God favored.. Yes sometimes a grant or bestow..

              Peace All.

I find that us humans put GOD in situations invented /assumed from our knowledge and warped logic that has limits like all our universe and existence has limits.
This is partly why we struggle with our understanding of GOD s omnipotence, realm and omnipresence.

First we need to put our head around who GOD is and why GOD has overall control, knowledge and the complete picture
Then we need to understand who we are and why our reality and universe.have limits .

For example If GOD does everything how can we say we have free will? And this is the problem that many struggle with.

              So who is GOD?
This requires that we need to understand an important and strong fact that there can only be one GOD that has no origin and does everything
Put simply GOD was, is and will be for ever, knows everything there is to know and does everything He plans to do. That is independent of all other beings/things that exist where ever GOD has put them.

Now we come to GOD s creatures, part of GOD s plan is to create. Whatever GOD creates has to have a limit, it cannot be "another god" by definition of the "true GOD".
Hence we, GOD s creatures that are here with a purpose to choose our destiny, regardless of what GOD knows or does. GOD has promised this to us in this life.
To summarise, there are two sides to this coin, as far as we are concerned is one side and as far as GOD is concerned is the other side.
GOD set up laws and rules that allow us to exercise our free will of choices and decisions No one ,in this life can testify or witness that GOD is forcing anyone to choose . or make decisions that they do not agree with. The fact that GOD knows the future and everything( By definition of the GOD) is not going to affect our free will.

The part that people do not get is "The GOD" knows everything and does everything. That is part of who the GOD is..
So mostly we do not accept that GOD knows what we do. We are thinking in our human ways and ignoring who GOD is and why nothing will be existing without GOD.
Part of "Islam to GOD" is accepting that GOD knows everything and does what he wants..i.e To accept "The only GOD" as a true and only power.

Hence in the verses , GOD is addtressing those who accept He does everything. Those who do not, well they have other choices.
We each earn our destiny through our choices and decisions. GOD is never unjust to anyone.
              GOD bless you all.
              Peace
