      Sister Sarah,
There is a long "LISZT" of forbidden music instrument.
Some of them we cannot even "HANDEL".

If any instrument plays haram music, then that instrument is haram! Or if you drop a piano down a mine shaft, then that piano becomes haram because a "flat minor" will be the result!.

On a serious note, No named instrument will result in playing haram music. There is no haram music even if it being played by an instrument called "Shaytan"
      Enjoy your music sister.
      GOD bless you.
      Peace.

        @Goodlogic

lol I know music and instruments are not haram, but I guess what I was asking is if it's named after a false god because then it's as if the song is dedicated to that 'god' or at least named after it by the artist. It reminds me of the rule that we shouldn't eat food dedicated to other 'gods'. But I guess music is not food.

Sorry sister,I was just having a lighthearted reply.

I like music too. Sometimes I do not know if I listen to a lot to music because I am miserable or I am miserable because I listen to a lot of music!?

I do not play any instruments except the guitar. The last time I tried the piano, I could not open it. The keys were inside..
I also tried to play the cello once, I was told to make it sound beautiful, sell it and buy a guitar. So I stuck with guitar!

And as for singing,I went to a karaoke bar that didn’t play any 70s music. At first I was afraid. Oh, I was petrified.”

Oh and there is only one band that I know of that does not play music. A rubber band.
          Enjoy your music sister.
          GOD bless you.
          Peace.

            Peace

I hope you're not miserable most the time. I like uplifting music. I tend to avoid sad songs even if they're catchy. Uplifting music makes me happier. And instrumental tracks. Then there's the grey area between happy and sad music. I dive into the grey area too.

Cool I don't really play any musical instrument at all maybe the drum but that's easy because all I do is bang it in a rhythm as one does and I use any surface since I do not own an actual drum Did you ever get to use that piano again?? I'd love to have a guitar just for fun. I might buy one someday to get that playing-the-guitar experience. I've never been to a karaoke bar, I'd be too embarrassed to even sing in front of my friend. Lol nice joke at the end.

            God bless you always

              Salam Sarah,

My humble opinion is that all forms of modern day entertainment are traps set up by the michievous ones to distract us from bettering ourselves and serving Allah. If you add up all the hours we spent on movies, music, fictions, etc you would be shocked at how much time is lost in "empty" activities. I suggest we should spend majority of our time working towards the afterlife and not constantly in a daze and too care free. Here are some pertinent ayats

The people of paradise were always worried about God's punishment, are we ever worried or too busy watching movies or sports? Past believers were so worried they stayed up one third or two thirds of the night.

And those who dreaded their Lords torment – Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. S70V27-28

Believers telling disbelievers they were stuck in their temptations until it steered them of the path

They will call out the believers, saying "Were we not on your side?" "Yes," they will reply, "but you led yourselves into temptation, you wavered, you doubted, and were deceived by your vain desires until Allah's command came, while the arch-deceiver (shaitan) deceived you concerning Allah till the last moment." 5714

It is also my humble understanding that all these forms of entertainment are inspired by the jinns and devils to make us too care free. We know that jinns can whisper to humans and we also know that the jinns form partnership with humans to enjoy in their money and children. When you hear authors and writers talk about how they are "inspired" to write all these fictions, it is either Allah inspiring them or the jinns. The themes of so many movies, books, and songs are actually against Allah's teaching. for example the hero journey which is in every action movie. You see the hero overcomes his problems but never by humbling themself in front of God When have you ever seen a super hero movie where the super hero calls to God for help which is really the only way to overcome any challenge. Also how many million songs are written about loving a boy or girl but how many are written to say love Allah only? So you can start to see the web of confusions being weaved by these forms of entertainment and how everyone is stuck in the illusion. You listen to a song or watch a movie or football game and next thing you know 2 to 3 hours have gone by in a blink of an eye. Something to think about...

Shaitan has made a vow. We are his target and he is actively attacking 24/7

717 "Then I will come to them from between their hands, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left; and You will find most of them unthankful."

The people of paradise were always worried about God's punishment,

If the people of paradise were always worried, then maybe this paradise is not a pleasant place at all...

Do you really want to live in worry?
                Is it pleasant for you?

And those who dreaded their Lords torment – Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. S70V27-28

A tormenting lord, do you really want to serve such Lord?
What kind of Lord is that?

If I had a boss who loved to torment their employee, I will either tell him to stop tormenting or if I can't I will leave the company. Such environment is definitely a toxic environment.
Usually the tormenting boss shall curse and threatened those who dare to leave the company.

I will seek out a work place where what happened is the exact opposite.
The boss who love to serve their employee and makes them happy, peaceful and joy.

I agree with the bold statement, there is or should I say there are many deceivers who deceived people about the one infinite creator. Among the lies is that the one infinite creator is one crazy tyrant who are insecure and love to torment it's own children and creation.

Also how many million songs are written about loving a boy or girl but how many are written to say love Allah only?

I failed to see any conflict between loving a boy or girl and loving the one infinite creator.
When you loved one or many of the creation you are actually loving the creator.

Now regarding songs, there are also plenty of songs being written about fear, hate, eternal torment, curse and damnation.
If you consider fear as a virtue, feel free to listen to those kind of songs.

Shaitan has made a vow. We are his target and he is actively attacking 24/7

Then better learn what this Shaitan is trying to do isn't it?

717 "Then I will come to them from between their hands, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left; and You will find most of them unthankful."

So by being happy, joyful and thankful will pissed off this Mr. Shaitan?
Is it not this is showing what Mr. Shaitan is trying to do?
Trying to make people feel insecure, fear, envious, angry, hateful and resentful.

Recognize things by it's characteristics and not merely by it's label or name.
By recognizing darkness you shall know it's opposite, the light.

Music can be used for bad and good. That's why listening to music in general isn't haram. Satan can also whisper to you without any music/ movies/ entertainment. It depends what you watch and listen to. It depends what you think about and how you think.

'It is also my humble understanding that all these forms of entertainment are inspired by the jinns and devils to make us too care free.'
So is everyone's mind. We're all being whispered to, music or no music. Unless you mean all modern music is satanic which I strongly disagree with. It depends what you listen to

'Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.' 732

'Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward according to the best of what they used to do.' 1697

On the other hand, you do have a point that we should be more fearful of God. But that doesn't mean we should shun a lot of halal blessings. We're not monks.

'Also how many million songs are written about loving a boy or girl but how many are written to say love Allah only.'
I do wish there were more songs about loving God. He is our creator. It's true there are way too many romantic love songs. You can love God and humans. Love of God has to be greater. But as Muslims we can still listen to love songs as long as we devote our lives to God, love songs/ music/ movies can still be part of our lives. It's not really that difficult to have both as long as we know who we are and are decisive with what we watch I guess.

There are lots of appropriate praise songs about GOD Alone. ,or just make up your own song like the Australian above did.

                      Salam Sarah,

I agree with your sentiments. As you said there needs to be a balance of entertainment and the reality of a very serious meeting with our creator. Thanks for the feedback.
