Are the laws of the Qur'an closer to political liberalism or conservatism?
Secondly, would you say in terms of the Qur'an, it's wrong to have an in-group preference when it comes to race, nationality, ethnicity & culture? What would be the Quranic view on people who are against immigration to preserve their culture and heritage? Is this truly racism, xenophobia or is it just a 'preference' as many political conservatives will say?

It is closer to political liberalism since it tells us
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah , even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort or refuse, then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.4135
Conservatism is all about letting traditions dictate things and unwillingness to change. God is quite critical about that in the Quran. That said, he is more about whether the community is going in the right direction. For that, we must use Quranic guidelines instead of what liberalism or conservatism says.

If oppressive, then yes. But honestly, this planet hardly has pure races.

I don't think I saw any verse on this. The closest we have is
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.4913
Preservation of culture and heritage isn't difficult in the face of immigration unless the people failed at something.
Just look at the rich middle eastern countries. They are full of South Asians, but that has no impact on Arabic culture and heritage.

OK . So we are where we are as humans, different races, countries, languages and cultures.
If only we could go back to originality.. Let us ask these questions
To whom belongs the earth and all its contents?
To whom is accountability refereed ?
Do we come from the same root/parents/race?
What is the natural politics ?We used to be one congregation when we started out and our "politics" separated us .
Can you imagine the earth as one whole country? All of us sharing it ,dividing the wealth provided by the Creator in it?
Can you imagine all accepting "GOD s politics" and accepting each other s diversity ,colours and tradition? All living under one system and cooperating /helping one another each one of us loyal to only GOD s system?
Can you imagine all humans as one big diverse family of humans?These are the laws and ways of Qoran.
If only all of us submit to GOD s laws,politic and way of life?
There will be no dividing of countries,races, politics or common goals. Then all GOD s earth will be permissible to all of us to seek His bounty and earn our living and sharing of our lives.Unfortunately, our division,racism and arrogance have led us to where we are now.
Can we reflect and go back to GOD s way? If only!Our loss in the end.

Neither. Some laws lean more to liberalism, others to conservatism. For instance, laws on dealing with blasphemers seem liberal, whereas the laws on say sex out of wedlock are conservative.

With due respect, would you say it's wrong to have in-group preference when it comes to family? Is it wrong to prefer your family to a stranger? These are no simple 'yes or no' questions. It depend on how you go about exercising these preference.

I thought they're against 'mass immigration', not 'immigration' per se?
Here is alternative question like before. What would be the Qur'anic view on people who are pro mass immigration or even open borders at the cost of cultural incompatibilities, brain drain, overpopulation, unemployment, artificial demographic shift etc.
Look, these things are not black and white. We need both sides of the political spectrum to run a fair society. There are racists and xenophobes among both political conservatives and liberals.

Our presence on earth has a meaning. We are to redeem ourselves, repent and ask God for forgiveness for our original sin. Believers should exclude acts that oppress people or prevent them from something that God did not order. Earth is created and maintained by God. It is God that decides. It is God that designs. And it is to God that the heavens and the worlds belong. The authority to prevent someone from immigrating elsewhere belongs to God alone. God has designed for us a wide area so we can repent
When the angels take back those who wronged themselves, they said, "What circumstances were you in?" They said, "We were oppressed in the land." They said, "Was God's earth not vast enough for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell, and a miserable destination it is,
There can be no comparison between the laws of the Quran and a political ideology. God is the author of the rules in the Quran. They are made by one who is the Most Wise, the Almighty, the Judge, and by one who does not inflict an atom's weight of injustice. On the other hand, Humans are unjust, egoistic, oppressive. And they are the originators of something described as political "liberalism". As an answer, the Quran is God's revelation, and God's revelations are unquestionably distinct from any existent source on earth. There can be no comparison!
