Why We Don’t Understand the Quran ?
Why We Don’t Understand the Quran
Why do we suffice with simply repeating the metaphors and symbols in the Quran without actually feeling the need to recognize the truths they point to?Why can’t we free ourselves from having to think within the limits of our ‘five senses’ and escape our cocoon?
Why is it so difficult for us to discern the reality that
The level of strings, which comprises a SINGLE frame picture, is what Sufism refers to as the dimension of “the Names”. This is where “forms of knowledge” are made. Beyond this is “Absolute Nothingness”!
Why We Don’t Understand the Quran Why do we think that by simply jumping into the shower we can suddenly become purified of the “filth” the Quran refers to in pertinence to the filthy thought system based on “duality”?
Let’s remember the following verse
“Verily the dualists (who claim the existence of their ego-identities alongside the Absolute Oneness) are contaminated (filthy)!”
“None but the purified (from the dirt of shirq – duality – animalistic nature) can touch it (i.e. become enlightened with the knowledge of the Absolute Reality)”
For the longest time, these two verses have been construed and understood as “you’re dirty if you don’t have wudu and therefore you cannot touch the Quran!”
Whereas what they really mean is
“If you are of the opinion that there is this world that you can perceive, and then there is also a god up beyond in the heavens somewhere that you can’t perceive, then clearly you have a dualistic view. In this case, you should stay away from this magnificent Knowledge (the Quran) that accentuates and constantly reinforces the reality of the Absolute Unity and Oneness of existence, for with a dualistic view, it’s impossible for you to recognize and evaluate the profound knowledge contained within it.”
Let me give an example to shed some light on why metaphors and symbolic language have been used in the Quran, Hadith and Sufism.
Imagine you were beamed five hundred years back into time and your mission was to explain to the people of that time the concept of the Internet and where its boundless data was kept, and how computers and televisions worked… How would you explain it to those people? How much would the examples you give them reflect the actual reality?
Allah’s Rasul and final Nabi, who lived more than 1400 years ago, had observed all of the mechanics of the System and Order, referred to as the Sunnatullah, to the extent they were revealed to him, and then he had to explain them according to the mental capacity of the people of his time. How else could he have expressed these truths?
It is unfortunate that albeit mankind has advanced tremendously in many fields, when it comes to evaluating the realities revealed by the Rasul of Allah (saw), we don’t refrain from thinking like the people who lived centuries ago, subject to the limited conditions of their time! Those people are excused, for they did not have access to the information that we do today. But us???Why does the Quran want intellectual people to reflect on and decode the metaphors and analogies it uses?
Let’s reform our system of thought!
Let’s systematically question and really try to decode the secrets revealed to us by the Rasul and final Nabi of Allah (saw) instead of getting stuck on their surface like those in the past were bound to…
Let’s make the best of the Nur of Risalat (the disclosure of Allah’s Knowledge) and be of the grateful ones.
If you recall, I had said earlier, that the Rasul and final Nabi of Allah had READ (iqra) the system and narrated this using metaphors and symbolic language.
What was the reality that he read? What exactly is he referring to with these metaphors and symbols?

Qur’ān is a book and every book is for certain audience. People and scholars of earlier centuries were its audience. Today in 21st century we are its audience. An author writes and compiles a book keeping in mind the intellectual level of his intended audience. If that not be the case, authoring a book is a waste activity. Author is always on higher level of intelligence than his audience. But the author has to communicate at the level of cognitive intelligence of reader because without it there can be no communication. In its absence, the only thing the author and reader will share would be words sprinkled on a piece of paper. The message is geared to be consonant with the audience's prior knowledge and assumptions. It is the audience in relation to whom will depend the main idea, validation and support, word choice, sentence structure, writing plan - form, writing relationship what tone of voice comes to you as a reader.
Secondly, the need for acquiring skill for real-time translation is for reason that Grand Qur’ān is alive in time and space. It is declared as "Infallible Discourse", a miscellany of facts for all times. Therefore, barring a truly academic translation, all translations of the past will become merely a reference for successive generations in timeline. However, its characteristic feature; "Infallible Discourse" and declaration about its contents as absolutely void of peeving substance suspicious, conjectural, whimsical, conflicting, ambiguous, anomalous, irrational, un-certain, illusory, unsubstantiated, incongruous, biased and opinionated matter, renders it understandable for readers of any point of timeline.

I agree with you. One problem I see is that people must
understand that Allah has given us the book for our guidance.
And uses metaphors, similitudes, parables, stories and literal
laws to explain time eternal.2177
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but
righteousness is one who believes in Allah , the Last Day, the angels, the Book,
and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the
needy, the traveler, those who ask , and for freeing slaves;
establishes prayer and gives zakah; fulfill their promise when they
promise; and are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle.
Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.peace

Salam,
Why we don't understand Qur'an ?
The answer to that is pretty simple because we don't know, or rather don't want to know the historical context in which it has been written, which would give the true indication of its meaning.Instead, either one relies on fictitious narratives and myths composed by a chain of brilliant authors, like Urwah ibn Zubayr, Az-Zuhri, Ma'amar ibn Rashid, Ibn Ishaq, ..., to imagine a fictitious historical context,
or, one completely drops out any historical context of Qur'an on the pretext that the Speech of Allah should be eternal and timeless and therefore historical context is of no importance.
So in both cases Qur'an is cut off from its historical roots. How can we understand it in that conditions ?
-
Salam,
The answer is given by this verse
5679 None can grasp it, except those purified.
Read the book (alquran) and the book of the universal system that Allah has created to grasp and understand the signs.
You can read a sentence and repeat it every day throughout your life without understanding its true meaning.
To be purified of conditioning, immitation and ego for the contemplation of signs and their comprehension.
The most urgent to know and understand is ourselves, it is the first veil to cross in order to move forward. this lack of knowledge is at the root of suffering and dysfunction.
May allah increase our science.

Salam. Everyone..
..
If one doesn't understand it then the below verse may answer to you..22 " That is the book in which there is no doubt, a Guidance for the God Concious"
So above verse very manifestly states the author's stance that this book (Quran) is a guidance for those who are God concious and in it there is no doubt.. If doubt arises for life time then there is something wrong in God consciousness of every individual who approached it.. Definitely it won't guide to anyone other than those God will..
Remember.. One may understand Quran but may not be guided by it to its true theme.. So his or her understanding is totally away from guidance that is to say misguidance..
How come guiding light, a beacon is not guiding one who deserves it, how come one doesn't understand while his intention is guidance? Impossible..
It won't guide to everyone though they think they are believers.. Unfortunately they themselves get misguided and unknowingly they misguide others as well within Quran. -
What do we mean by understand Qoran?
Can we understand every verse?
For example the prophet did not have the whole Qoran most of his life. He did not even start to receive it until he was 4o years old-according to history- and received verses until his last year in this life.So who can claim that he/she understands Qoran all of it?Should we?
I find it is a blessing to just have Qoran.
Those drawn to Qoran will begin to read/study this book and take it seriously. Then they begin to value the contents.
They will start to comprehend and appreciate how God has designed and structured His final scripture in perfect Arabic. Then they would never underestimate what God says about His Quran to be divinely preserved for all coming generations, easy to understand( how to lead a better life), straightforward except for allegories, complete, perfect , fully detailed, and consistent without any ambiguity or contradictions.
They would distinguish the difference between truth and falsehood, divine and man-made. They know how deep, awesome, and glorious it is when God says He establishes the truth with His words. This fact instills reverence, humility, and a sense of certainty in their hearts.
Some verses will be absolutely clear to them like thisYou shall recite/learn what is revealed to you of your Lord's scripture. Nothing shall abrogate His words, and you shall not find any other source beside it.
Then the journey begins and it will be ongoing. See where GOD takes you with it and GOD Alone will teach you what you can bare, benefit and need from it.
If Qoran does not transform your life for the better, you are not understanding it.May God strengthen those who believe in Him with His words at all times.
GOD bless you all.
Peace.
