أَفَتُمٰرونَهُ عَلىٰ ما يَرىٰ
He saw in another descent.
وَلَقَد رَءاهُ نَزلَةً أُخرىٰ
At the ultimate point.
عِندَ سِدرَةِ المُنتَهىٰ
Where the eternal Paradise is located.
عِندَها جَنَّةُ المَأوىٰ
The whole place was overwhelmed.
إِذ يَغشَى السِّدرَةَ ما يَغشىٰ
The eyes did not waver, nor go blind.
ما زاغَ البَصَرُ وَما طَغىٰ
He saw great signs of his Lord.
لَقَد رَأىٰ مِن ءايٰتِ رَبِّهِ الكُبرىٰ

This is not relevant to Prophet Musa... This is absolutely about prophet Muhammad...
But he never did go away from Earth.. Note the specific words... DECEND ... who decended ? Gibreal my understanding... And Muhamed was made to witness it.... No one ascended... Muhamed spoke truth of what he saw.... .
How many times it happend? Only once.. I mean masjid Al Haram to masjid Al Aqsa .. That's musa. .
How many times this descent happened? Two minimum... That's is Muhamed witnessing one if the greatest witness. Descending of Gibreal....

So 171 is completely different to what you grasp

Now you may say I am also assuming it is Mohammed.
However we both agree it is a messenger servant.

Why I do not think it is Moses because this confirms it for me

We have sent it down in a blessed night, for we are to warn.
إِنّا أَنزَلنٰهُ فى لَيلَةٍ مُبٰرَكَةٍ إِنّا كُنّا مُنذِرينَ
In it (the scripture), every matter of wisdom is clarified.
فيها يُفرَقُ كُلُّ أَمرٍ حَكيمٍ
It is a predetermined command from us that we send messengers.
أَمرًا مِن عِندِنا إِنّا كُنّا مُرسِلينَ
This is a mercy from your Lord. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
رَحمَةً مِن رَبِّكَ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّميعُ العَليمُ

Qoran was put into the messenger s soul mind as a whole on that night journey.
Then it was slowly released-aided by the spirit(Gabriel) to his memory in stages over a period of time.

BTW.. The verse you say it confirms.. But it says SENT DOWN... why don't you consider it...

I read in the forum that isra and miraj might be alluding to prophet moses. If so please can anyone tell me from where to where did prophet moses travel

171 Glory be to the One who took His servant by night from the Restricted Temple to the most distant temple which We had blessed around, so that We may show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearer, the Seer.

172 And We gave Moses the Book and We made it a guidance for the Children of Israel "Do not believe in any besides Me."

We can put these verses together to see the context,

172 And We gave Musa the Book and We made it a guidance for the Children of Israel "Do not believe in any besides Me."

2077 And We inspired to Musa "Travel by night <asri> with my servants, and strike for them a path through the sea that is dry. You shall not fear being overtaken, nor be concerned."

2652 And we inspired to Musa, "Travel by night <asri> with my servants", indeed you will be followed."

4423 Travel <fa asri> with My servants by night; you will be pursued.

Here is how I see the story

=Night Journey=

171 Glory be to the One who took His servant by night <asra> from the Masjidil Haram to the Masjidl Aqsa which We had blessed around, so that We may show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearer, the Seer.

there are two masjid here, first one is Masjidil Haram and the second one is Masjidil Aqsa. As per my understanding, Masjid means place of sujood.

=Place of sujood #1=

2070 So the magicians went down sujjadan. They said "We believe in the Lord of Harun and Musa."

and Firaun became angry

2071 He said "Have you believed to him before taking my permission? He is surely your great one who has taught you magic. So, I will cut off your hands and feet from alternate sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of the palm trees, and you will come to know which of us is greater in retribution and more lasting!"

and then the night journey took place as described in 171

2077 And We inspired to Musa "Take My servants out by night <asri>, and strike for them a path through the sea that is dry. You shall not fear being overtaken, nor be concerned."

=Place of sujood #2=

4154 And We raised the mount above them by the covenant they took, and We said to them "Enter the passageway sujjadan." And We said to them "Do not transgress the Sabbath;" and We took from them a solemn covenant.

from these verses above, I knew that the Masjidil Haram is the place of sujuud before the night journey, and they moved to distant place called Masjidil Aqsa, or place of sujood in distance (Masjidil Aqsa).

Now, another story, here was a man came from Aqsa'l Madinati, he warned young Musa

2820 And a man came running from the Aqsa'l Madinati, saying "O Musa, the commanders are plotting to kill you, so leave immediately. I am giving you good advice."

So I believe that Musa and his people had moved from the place where the magicians had sujood (it's something must be understood metaphorically, means submissive to God) called Masjidil Haram to Masjidil Aqsa, caused by they were hunted. Please note that Masjidil Haram also exist in Muhammad time with the same situation, they were expelled.

And the Masjidil Aqsa here must be located in the same area with the man who came from Aqsa'l madinati to warn Musa.

Now let's get back to the 'third messenger'

3620 And a man came running from Aqsa'l Madinati, saying O my people, follow the messengers.

The same word has been used to link the messengers in 3614 with Musa and Harun.

And what about the third one?

The third one had been born in

1922 So she (Maryam) was pregnant with him, and she went to deliver in a far place. <makānan qaṣiyyan>

That's all I can say, just to explain my point of view.

3614 Where We sent two (messengers) to them, but they disbelieved in them, so We supported them with a third one, thus they said We are messengers to you.

This Ayah 1701 is one of those which was interpreted by many in time and space, not by its own words but mostly on strength of gossips, meaning casual conversation about personal events whether rumour or fact.

Ayah comprises of two sentences, one complex and the last one is simple. The first sentence is the breaking news about Unique Night Journey . Its update is mentioned in Chapter 53.

First thing to be noted is that there is no specific addressee in its text.

The text is Expository structure. In this structure it is not assumed that the reader possesses the prior knowledge of the subject matter. Answer to any question that reader might have about the topic it is answered. An expository writing contains a thesis statement within the first paragraph, informing the reader of the main argument of the text. The rest of it should provide relevant evidence to prove the argument and persuade the reader that the argument is credible.

Strictly adhering the accepted principles of translating a text and the rules of Arabic grammar-morphology and syntax, we should attempt to understand what is conveyed - the intended message in the Arabic text.

masjid al haram = the sanctuary of Mecca
masjid al aqsa = the temple of Jerusalem founded by Solomon

Before verse 171 the Jews and the Sabbath
verse 171 link between the sanctuary of Mecca and that of Jerusalem (divine filiation)
After verse 171 the Jews and the temple of Jerusalem mentioned

Asrā (form IV) to make someone travel by night / to take (God) someone (Muhammad) by night and on a horizontal plane

Am only a learner and not at all wise as you all are. Following is not my opinion but I found in some other site the explanation of verse 171, and thought of sharing as is, food for though. It’s talking about prophet night journey from Makkah to Medina during the troubled time.

171 The atmosphere in Makkah had become unbearable for the Jama at-ul-Momineen and there was a little hope that the message of Islam would be accepted by those who had not only rejected it but planned to kill the Rasool.) Limitless glory to Allah who moved his devotee one night from the sacred mosque (of Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Madina - where atmosphere was much more conducive) and its environs We had blessed. The purpose of the migration was that the promises made by Allah with him in Makkah should be fulfilled. Most certainly Allah is all Hearing and All- Seeing (20/23). (Therefore every decision of His is based on Knowledge and Wisdom.)

(Hijra is not a new phenomenon. It was part of the programme of almost all the Rusul. It played an especially prominent part in the case of Moses.) Moses was given the book for the guidance of the Bani-Isr ael enjoining them not to take for guidance, any one but Allah.

They were the posterity of those whom were rescued along with Noah, who was a grateful servant (Rasool) of Allah.
