The Qur'an's narration of events
-
The Quran tells information and life stories in a simple way, not like a novel with heavy language. In many places, it even presents the transitions in a cinematic way. That is why in many places it does not use expressions like "say" or "they said". Of course, this is also the mathematical miracle of the Qur'an.
YUSUF
-
When they despaired of Joseph, they stood aside and began to argue. The eldest of them said "Do you not know that your father took a guarantee from you in the name of Allah, and do you not know the injustice you did to Joseph before? I will not leave this country until my father gives me permission or until Allah judges for me. He is the best of judges."
-
Return to your father and say "O our father, your son has committed theft. We have only testified to what we know, we are not the ones who know the unseen."
-
"Ask the city in which we were, and the caravan with which we returned. We speak the truth."
-
Ya'qub said "No, it is not so, your nafs/desires have driven you to something again. My part is to hold on to a good patience. Allah will bring them all to me. For He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise."
Here in verses 81 and 82 the eldest of Joseph's brothers tells the others what they should say to their father. And notice that in verse 83 the scene suddenly changes and we see that these words are spoken to their father Ya'qub and he even responds. So there is no intervening statement that "his brothers went and told their father these things". Just like a movie scene, we see that these words were directly conveyed to Ya'qub and he responded.
Another example
TAHA
-
"Go to Pharaoh, for he was a man of few."
-
"Address him with a soft and sweet word; perhaps he will be admonished, or he will tremble."
-
They said "Our Lord, we are afraid that he may commit an outrage against us, or that he may again become violent."
46 "Fear not! I am with you; I hear, I see."
-
Go to him and say "We are two Messengers of your Lord. Send the Children of Israel with us, do not torture them! We have brought you a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon those who follow the Guidance."
-
"It has been revealed to us that the punishment will be on those who deny and turn away."
-
Pharaoh said "Who is your Lord, O Moses?"
Here too Moses and his brother Aaron express their reservations. Our Lord responds by telling them not to be afraid and informs them what they should say to Pharaoh.
And again, notice that in verse 49 we suddenly see that they convey these words exactly to Pharaoh and that Pharaoh even begins to respond. So again, there is no explanation like "they went to Pharaoh and said this and that". There is a direct scene transition.
In many other examples, direct expression is provided without the use of expressions such as "they said", "he said", "say" or "say that". This, as I said, not only adds fluency to the narrative but also provides the mathematical miracle of the Qur'an.
For example, "say" (kul) and "said" (kalu) occur 332 times each in the entire Qur'an.
"Say" 332 times...
"They said" 332 times...(My Turkish article translated with machine)
