Peace Taj,
That's a very sensible way of looking at it and I appreciate you answering that. It's great to see.
Do you or can you discuss your views with your immediate contacts? BTW your English is exceptional for someone who lives in the middle east - have you grown up or had some time in the west?
Regards.

Salaamun alaikum Taj,
How can it be a marriage proposal, I dont know her yet
It is a proposal to get to know her if she is interested ! ?Wa 3alaykum A'ssalaam Wa Ra7matUllahi Wa Barakatuhu Tanveer,
Well, I did sense honest and sincere marriage intentions in your post, and of course this should start by getting to know her and know if she is interested. Now let's hope that she visits the forum and reads this!
Good luck wink
Salam Taj, all,
That's sweet of you Taj. I feel you have a good heart and may Allah reward you for your encouragement.
Tanveer seems (through his messages) to be a good believer thinker but the problem is ME-) There is a psychological barrier in me when I get to know someone with "the intention of marriage" from the begining. This barrier is even worser when this is done on Internet. If I meet a person by chance and then I realize I like this person and we are having a common ground, I would not mind to consider marriage but if I meet that same person with first the purpose of marriage, psychologically it does not go through my mind. Some of my friends tried to set me up with possible mates, I told them don't even bother because I won't show up. At the mosque it was one friend who acted on my behalf trying to help me overcome this mental barrier but I did not succeed-). I don't know why but the idea of getting to know someone with the purpose of marriage from the start completely shutts off my brain. May God the All-Mighty forgive me and help me. In the case of my fiance - may he rest in peace - and the few others men I got to know - I've got to know them through other activities which no intention of marriage but then the relation further developed. Please don't get me wrong. I am NOT saying there is something wrong with getting to know someone with the intention of marriage. What I am trying to say is while this approach may work for many of you, it does not work for me. But again, I will encourage and help my sisters and brothers to get to know each other for marriage. Please forgive me if I gave you all this impression through my messages that I was looking for a soul mate. I was just sharing my understanding of the issue raised (fornication) based on my case.
Sorry for the late reply. I am recovering from a surgery slowly but surely by the grace of the All-Mighty.
Peace and God blessings. Myr. -
Salaams Myr,
Glad to hear from you after such a long time. I hope that by now you are all well )
From the previous posts I didn't think that you were looking for a soul mate. What I got is just the opposite. What I got is this that there is no way that you will ever find someone who could meet your high standards and so reach as close to your heart as your dear lost one. That you hold your lost beloved and those feelings so hard that there is no way to let go and care to look for someone else. Even without me knowing about this barrier thing, you seemed somehow difficult to approach as a future mate! But for those who don't take rejection personally it won't hurt to try )
Now how can a woman find a husband? The arranged method does not consider feelings to say the least but it certainly saves a lot of time. The arranged method is very practical no emotions involved! A very manly sort of way roll
As a woman, I think I can understand why you have this psychological barrier in regard to that method. But can I ask you something? Do you wish that barrier to go away? If you don't like my question don't answer it, that is ok. If you don't wish to discuss anything about this post, that is also ok. Most important is that you feel comfortable, the rest should not really matter!
My best regards,
Taj

Thank you for your feedback. Very much appreciated. I know most of people would disagree with me when I say my standards are not mine but are just from the Quran. Maybe as you said, I may seem to be a person very difficult to approach because of my belief but all those that I got to know, including my deceased beloved, have never expressed this difficulty to me. It is true I don't play the "game" and I dont know how to play it-) but I believe for the true believers men, this is not a problem as it was proven to me in the past. I don't reject people just for the sake of rejecting but I go by the Quran, I try to stick to those who really fear the All-Mighty and live by the Quran and not by what is nowadays fashion. All those I "rejected" so far were fornicators-) and those who were not, they were believers in Jesus as God. So what can I do? to please Satan or to please the All-Mighty?
Now how can a woman find a husband? The arranged method does not consider feelings to say the least but it certainly saves a lot of time. The arranged method is very practical no emotions involved! A very manly sort of way roll
The arranged method is before anything else a cultural issue and that's where I believe is my psychological barrier-). I have been observing this method with my family, my friends and people around me, it is all about games and falsely portraying ourselves. Of course, this method worked for many but it doesn't work for me. I believe in the "natural method" where you get to know people under different circumstances, you build up friendship based on the love of the All-Mighty and from there the heart starts to incline or not. But this arranged method of meeting men in bars, parties, or gathering with the sole purpose of finding a mate is not processed by my brain at all-). You should really see those games, it's all about physical attractions, the brain is left for the hereafter-) even the talks are FLAT-) no thinking but only about seduction and then everybody wonders why they ended up together miserable.
Of course I wish that psychological barrier goes away but the problem is I don't believe in the arranged method-). I want to get to know Brothers (and Sisters) for what they are, as really close allies as described in Quran and not because I may have a first interest with them. The message in Quran is to build brotherhood and friendship based on mutual help and support and not because we see an interest as a mate. Once this is established, I then have no right to reject a Brother as I have no right to break God's covenant. God's mercy on me has always been unlimited, HE bestowed on me all kinds of blessings, and inchallah my case will be resolved in the future-).
Many many thanks Sister! your feedback was very helpful. May Allah bless you. Peace. Myr.

Your deceased beloved did not approach you as a future mate. That is why there was no difficulty. You did not set any "barricades" ) in his way. It started very casual, I imagine, probably at work or at a joined project. So he approached you as a sister at first and then things developed. That is how I see it. So the psychological barrier was not there.
I disagree with you on the meaning of fornication or adultery. (Btw Aren't the two the same!?) Because in Arabic it is just Zina.
Until very recently I was thinking that any relationship between a woman and a man that is not approved by the society would be adultery, even if they both were single and committed to each other.
My society here considers any unwritten and un-two-witnessed realtionship as Zina. Let me give an example
A couple were in love. The woman's family didn't approve of the man. The woman got pregnant. At her fourth months her father agreed to wed her to her boyfriend. Five months later she delivered. Now the government does not consider that baby as
legitimate! It considers that baby as a child of Zina and so this baby will never have an ID, passport, legal rights, etc.. not even the name of her father her very own biological father. She would be given any random name and no legal rights whatsoever!!! How can a baby be illegitimate when the father is known and is already married to the mother!!!??? The government considers the action of the couple an act of Zina. Had the baby been born after six months instead of five, the government would recognize the baby as legitimate!!! And will take her father?s name and the rest of the rights!!! There are many children here suffering from that injustice.Another example
A man and a woman met somewhere abroad, in the Sahara, etc... They wanted to get married. They managed to get two witnesses. The two witnesses died and the paper of the marriage contract got lost somehow. The woman had a baby. Now when they returned home, my Islamic government would not recognize the baby as legitimate!!! To the Islamic government this baby is a product of Zina!!! She will not be given the name of her father!!!
Does this look like Halal to you? Does what the government do look Islamic to you or in agreement with the Quran?
In my understanding that cannot be Zina. Both couples wanted to be with their soul mates whether with a written contract or not. Isn?t God enough of a Witness?
And let me add this
If a mother of any of those cases would leave her baby in the street, so that someone would find the baby and get her to authorities, that baby would immediately be given an ID ( with any name), a passport and all the legal rights of full citizenship!!!
Another case
There are some (many) girls in some very poor places in Asia where they have to sell their honour to survive. Do you consider those girls fornicators? I don?t.((The only problem in the first two examples is when the real father would deny his fatherhood to the baby, then the woman would be in trouble because the man will not pay anything to raise that baby,etc.. but that is another story.))
I have explained my understanding of Zina in the earlier posts here or maybe in other threads, that Zina is having more than one mate at a time not committed to one.
I don?t know what is your understanding of Zina. Is it something like my Islamic government here?
People here in my country find it very easy to call others fornicators. They consider anyone who is in a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship (as the way in the West) as Zina.
My point is that maybe your standards are not the Quran standards, but you only think they are! So if you don?t mind can you explain to me your standards and what exactly you consider fornication? Now how can a woman find a husband? The arranged method does not consider feelings to say the least but it certainly saves a lot of time. The arranged method is very practical no emotions involved! A very manly sort of way roll

Here, the girl would be very shy at that one and only meeting with her husband to be, with one of her family elder members present. She wouldn?t speak her mind, that is if she managed to speak at all! Even her parents would not allow her to talk that is if she has the courage to. And within a week the two would be married and within a year time they would be having a baby. And within seven years they would be having six to seven kids. Everything is so crazily quick. And girls would marry at a very young age and so are the boys.As a woman, I think I can understand why you have this psychological barrier in regard to that method. But can I ask you something? I disagree with you on the meaning of fornication or adultery. (Btw Aren't the two the same!?) Because in Arabic it is just Zina.
Until very recently I was thinking that any relationship between a woman and a man that is not approved by the society would be adultery, even if they both were single and committed to each other.
We surely have a different understanding of zina as it came in Quran. My understanding of it is any sex outside any legitimate relation (marriage in the sight of the All-Mighty) whether the person is single or married. This is what I call "fornication"-). Now I understand your interpretation of Zina but I disagree with you however I will not explain why I disagree with you since another Brother clearly tackled in details this issue and showed why your translation/interpretatio of zina is uncorrect. So I will not repeat the same thing but just to insist on saying that Quran is not ambiguous and the verses on zina are simple, clear and strait forward, however, I know for many these are rude harsh verses because nowadays being sexually active at age 13 is perceived as normal and thus we have to be politically correct-). So Ido respect your interpretation and all taht I can say is God the All-Mighty knows best.
The examples you gave are unfortunate and are examples of social injustice. However, my HMO, it is very important to distinguish between the wisdom in Quran and social injustice. WE have to put everything into perspective and not refute what is clearly described in Quran in order to justify injustice created by the humans. My own viewpoint on the examples you gave is first these people are victims of their own ignorance. A true believer who knows his/her faith and Quran would know what to do in such injustice. and second a country that claims to be Islamic is not in my eyes -- necessarly islamic but on controrary - from the little I know, most of their rules and law are in direct contradiction with the message in Quran. I am not sure in which country you are. I know a little bit about Middle East but I travelled a lot to improve my Arabic. I understood that all the social injustice ( and toward women in particular)were/are a result of ignorance of the Quran and its wisdom. I visited Saudi Arabia (SA) few years ago during Hadj period, I left it completely depressed-)(may God forgive me-)) then I headed Jerusalem where I THEN realized the Islam there is different from the Islam in SA but then again I went to Egypt and Jordan to realize one more time how Islam (practice) was also different there. Overall, people were very attached to their cultures but ignorant of the Quran-) and maybe this is the case of your country too. Again, it is unfortunate to see such social injustice but God the All-Mighty has told us that HIS earth is spacious and HIS mercy is unlimited so when someone is persecuted, it is better to leave the place. All the childrnn should be given their father's name whether they are born outside wedlog or not, as per the Quran so if a state has another rule, do we still have to blame the Quran and change the meaning of zina in order to deal with social injustice? I dont think so.
Marriage in Quran is very simple. It's a covenant. I even don't see the witness requirement nor the authorization of the parents/guardian except in the case of those who have a master. However what I see is that it has to be announced and the man must give the wage to the woman PRIOR TO CONSUMING the marriage. So if the couple went through this process, they are then married in the sight of the All-Mighty even if the society does not recognize it as such. Anything we add to this process is up to us and not a requirement to validate the marriage in the signt of the All-Mighty. When I was in Africa (Ivory Coast), I saw in villages, couples married with no documents and having children who were not even declared to the government! would this make these marriages void? I dont think so. My point is culture and social system should not be confused with what really came in Qruan as message and wisdom. And we should live by the Quran and not by the culture and social system unless we are ready to assume the consequences-).
God the All-Mghty has made everything to us very simple but yet the human by his nature makes it complicated and then wondering why we are facing all these problems and injustices.
Another case

He he-) this subject was debated on OQS I think last year and I said "yes, this is fornication"-). To survive, it does not have to go through selling your body. A lot of people faced starvation with persecution but yet they did not sell their body to "survive". We try to use all kinds of possible explanations to "excuse" a behavior clearly comdemned in Quran. I had colleagues at the university who did striptease and sold their body to pay their tuitions fee for education under the excuse of "we are poor". I finished my studies with $34,000 debt and I wish I could have been "debt free" as they were-)at the graduation!
I believe God the All-Mighty never and never lets the true believers down even when HE decrees the punishment on an entire society. God the All-Mighty is JUST and always comes to the rescue of HIS true servants in THIS life not until the hereafter.

I am not speaking about the girls in your university. I was speaking about the desperate girls in some place in East and South East Asia. I cannot condemn them because I certainly am not in a desperate situation. I am not in their shoes (if they have any!). And in the Quran there is "the Rule of the Desperate" . Quran Rules can be broken under certain circumstance without the person taking the blame for his/her actions! And it is only Allah that can decide whether that person is truly desperate, and so we cannot then judge the actions of others by saying that they are not desperate enough in our eyes, especially when they are not transgressing. Ayah draws a clear limit to our judgment about the actions of others telling us that the amount of desperation is something between the individual and Allah and we, as outsiders = spectators, have no right to play God here. Ayah allows us to give excuses to others and so to be able to 3afw and Ssaf7 and overlook their shortcomings, and them ours! Ayah teaches us mercy and compassion towards our fellow human beings. The examples I gave were not to deny yours or confuse you but just to stress that "poverty" should not be used to justify what is clearly comdemned in Quran. This "poverty" is used in all sauces-) to try to "excuse" what is in my HMO not excusable. Here also we do have a lot of women who sell their body in the name of "poverty". Salaams Myr,
The problem I mentioned above is not mine personally. It is just one example of the injustice that women here are subjected to.
As for your offer to help, I can only say thank you for your exceptional kindness but I cannot get to the airport by myself so how would I make it to the States or Canada!? This is hard for me to even imagine! But thank you for trying to help, Myr. I deeply appreciate it.My best regards.

Peace,

Kuwait also has the weekend on thursday and friday.

Salaams Nadia, Myr and All
All the Middle East countries have their weekends on Friday, as it is the holy day here. No government work at that day since all or most men would go to the mosque for the Friday Prayers.
Some of these countries would also take the Thursday as a weekend too. I think it is only Lebanon that has two weekends! The Muslims are excused from government work on Fridays and the Christians on Sundays. -

That's interesting. few years ago I went to Jordan, Israel/Palestine, Egypt and of course SA, at the time , only SA had the friday as a day off. In other countries, people were allowed to go for prayers but it was not a "day off" as such so everybody was working, unless I was confused by what I saw and what people were telling me-).

The problem was they kick me out from my spot everytime I tried to pray. It happened almost everyday to a point the last days I lost my patience and I blew up on many of them-) may God forgive me for that but they were really rude with me, in the middle of my prayers, they just came and with no consideration they threw away my small carpet and took my spot, it was not once or twice but everyday. I realize my big mistake was to go there without a man. To enter SA, I had a muslim professor at the university who signed for me but once there, I quickly realized how difficult it was to really pray and stay focused when you are in a crowd mainly made of men. They just throw you away to take your spot. I found it extremely hard, mainly when I was not sleeping in order to go very early to get a spot and then lose it later-). In Jerusalem, it was much better, people were wonderfull and the imam there let me pray everywhere, including under the rock. Well, God is everywhere and mercifull, so each piece of HIS earth is a mosque so inchallah all our prayers will be answered. I believe everywhere and anywhere there are good and less good people, not only in SA. I should just take into consideration more the cultural aspect when I am in places like that.
Peace. Myr.

Salaam,
isn't this crazy. Also happended to my mother in law. The "Hajjs" in Mekka just pushed her away when she tried to touch the kaaba - poor sixty year old lady. No wonder so many people die there every year.
Even as a traditionnal "muslim" i was always reticent to do hajj, pushed it back cause i hate crowds and the whole idea of this hajj organisation by the saudians.
My mind is not yet really made up on the signification of hajj but everything pushes me not to go!
By the way - why are we in marriage and divorce section?? roll

Salam Elke,
I fully agree with you about the Hadj and its meaning. I travelled to all possible places (including Jordan) to have a peace of "mind" that I tried since this is a duty upon us whenever it is possible to perform it. I am the type of person who likes to retreat a lot in my worshipping the All-Mighty and far from cowds and noises so I don't believe too much in suffering and difficulties to be able to collectively worship HIM, (that's only my understanding from the Quran). However, I could not find that peace anywhere and I say "anywhere", except in Jerusalem where I was able to "really" pray in peace and reflect more on Quran and the meaning of Hadj. It helped me a lot to leave SA and head Israel as I felt so depressed. I just considered it as a "test" and even there, I did not do what all the others where doing such as the balck stone, stoning, visiting the graves etc. The only other place left for me to try is the Sinai desert, there is a place there where I feel the call of the All-Mighty. Inchallah HE will accept it from us regardless of where we go and look for HIS house.

Salaams Myr, Elke, All
I am very sorry for your Mother-in-Law, Elke.
Thank God you got out of there alive, Myr!
Before, I wasn't paying attention because I never was mistreated but then I started to notice those 'unleashed' guards and some of the visitors too! I never went to Hajj, but several times to 3omrah where the place would be relatively less harmful!! But in Hajj it would be like a battlefield! Shia groups from Iran and Lebanon and other countries would form circles of men with their women inside those circles and they would move around AlKaaba. Those men would mercilessly elbow anyone in their way! The women inside those circles told me that they felt very comfortable because nobody could bother them!!! They were totally unaware of the price= Possibly Human lives x And they would go as many times as they can!!! Because to them Hajj is very easy!!!
Oh God!
