Alcohol, someone explain this article to me please?

Peace everyone. Thank you for commenting on my post.
Thanks, yes, I feel it is not conclusive. But there has to be a way to conclusively understand it.
Okay so let's try to understand. This is my understanding only. Some of the translations are my own so they might not be accurate. Disclaimer Please don't rely on my analysis, I have probably not considered every possibility, neither do I necessarily think any of these interpretations are right and I probably did miss something.590 describes 4 different things (intoxicants, game of chance, sacrificing at altars, divining arrows). They are dirt/an abonimation from the devil. "So avoid it/him so you may succeed".
591 describes that the devil intends to use two of these things (intoxicants and gambling) to cause hatred, prevent the remembrance of God and prayer. "So will you then abstain?" Here the word "muntahuna" is used. Maybe someone who has a better understanding of Arabic grammar than me can explain what part of the sentence this word refers to?
So 590 describes 4 of them as rijs, 591 continues to also describe 2 of these 4.
592 "And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware! So if you turn away, then know that upon Our Messenger is only to convey clearly.
593 "Not on those who believe and do the good deeds (is) any sin for what they ate, when they fear and they believe and they do the good deeds; then they fear and believe; then they fear and do good; and God loves those who do good"
So a couple of points
1a) If "hu" in 590 refers to the devil rather than khamr, along with the 3 other things are still listed as rijs (dirt/abonimation) from the work of the devil. The question then is does this mean that khamr is rijs? All 4 things are called rijsun, I am not sure if I can use an analogy but what if for example Blue cheese is a delicacy from the making of the cheesehouse. So in that case blue cheese is still a delicacy. But is there a possibilty I am misunderstanding this? In another verse God says there is some good in khamr, here it is called rijs. Or are both possibilities, i.e. they are rijs and there is some good in it?
1b) 591 "So will you then abstain?" What does this refer to, abstain from gambling and khamr, from Shaitan (unlikely based on the sentece?) or from hatred and enmity
2a) 590 if "hu" refers to rijs, then we need to avoid the rijs. Again, here the question is, are all 4 things mentioned rijs? If yes then we shall avoid them.
2b) 591 This verse could then also mean to reinforce the message from the previous verse to abstain from 2 of those 4 previously mentioned things. I.e. khamr and gambling are rijs, avoid them, the devil uses them to stir hatred and emnity, will you not abstain?
2c) 592, depending on the interpretation of the word "فَٱجْتَنِبُوهُ" in verse 590 (e.g. just avoid or shun) may relate directly to the previous verses in case of the latter interpretation as in obey God for the previous commandment of shunning the aforementioned things?
2d) 593 may then relate to prior to the prohibition of khamr, gambling etc, however, God uses the word "ate" "طَعِمُوٓا۟" and I don't know if this can be used in this relation to the above.Just looking for some critical input here.
Peace...
You have complicated it a lot I presume... In my understanding 'HU' refers to Amal from Satan.. Not Satan or Intoxicants...
First of all note well nothing here is FORBIDDEN (haram).. Every action/work (amal) which is the path of Satan drag a believer towatds evil path, a path which makes the Hell closer and closer..Here main topic is Intoxicants and Game of chance.. And other two matters are extention of what game of chance are practiced manifestly in those era in such society... So 590 extensively elaborated what type of game of chance and in 591 it was limited to say game of chance.. It doesn't mean they were not included.. But they are..
Meanwhile RIJS is not a physical thing but spiritually impure.. Even the flesh of swine is RIJS not coz of meat but it is impure in the sight of God..
Further Avoid and prevent has big difference.. Yajthanibu is to avoid meanwhile muntahana is to Prevent...
Regarding great Sin in intoxicants and gambling and little benefits.. It is not sin.. In them great Harm/fault (Ithzm) and little benefit.. As illustrated in one of my previous discussion Ithzm in Quran means Harm/fault..So.. In a nutshell.. Intoxicants and game of chance(gambling) are not forbidden but better avoid coz these are from WORKS of Satan and works of Satan is impure(rijz).. Once one is involved in works of Satan it is needles to say he will be far away from remembrance of God... For example no one can do game of chance without applying very meticulous thought process into it.. He will keep thinking various ways to win the gambling.. So.. Rembrance of God will never be with him if he is addicted to such game.. Similar intoxicants.. Once you are intoxicated you are not you..
Regarding "Ate" .. It should taken as has or had consumed /eaten... Yes.. It doesn't matter as long as belover realizes and his last is left for God to judge... Believer should go forward in life...
. I hope I answered all your concerns unless you misunderstood what I have written... May God guide with what is truth...Thank you

I don't see anything wrong with the translation of 590 being "the devil"
Here is what the verse says "Intoxicants, Gambling, Altars, and Arrows of chance are foul by the work of the devil"
These things in of themselves are not "foul" - it is the work of the devil than makes them such.
You cannot make the "avoid" to apply to the "foulness" - you can only make it apply to the "devil" or his "work" (or both).

Peace... Everyone..
Long thread.. be patient in case you read..
There is something very significant which is called guidance from God... This cannot be purchased nor be attained from another but it can only be given by God alone.. As a mercy... He knows who guided aright and who chosen path of astray.(literally Satan) .
Having said that... Here failure in REMEMBRANCE of God is highlighted as ramification .. Following the Work of Satan is a kind of hindrance for remembering God at will... We don't know who Satan is and what he does... But Allah has shown the right path which is in fact not the path of Satan or for that matter WORK of Satan... By avoiding work of Satan we can concentrate in remembering our Lord the Creator.. This verse is just one such aspect what we have to keep away so our path would become clear for worship or remember God...
But as a whole, entire life Satan is watching at us... That's why God says, "Don't let your wealth and family divert / distract you from remembrance of God. "
So if we compare above with the verse 590... We understand that children family wealth all a trial or rather a barricade for remembrance of God.. children family wealth etc are part and parcel of life while intoxicants and gambling are not part and parcel of life but we drag them to life but God advises to be vigilant and they are WORK of satan... But family children and wealth etc are not WORK of Satan... But You can make children family wealth also work of Satan if you are possessed in them or blinded in them.. For example some live only for children.. And ready for even totally sacrifice life for children or his lover /wife or for obtaining wealth etc.. These are really work of Satan thus remembrance of God fade away as a result of family children attachment or love of wealth etc.. ..
We are created to worship God thus remembering God is imperative and beyond that nothing is important in life... But needless to say what is important for people now... For some, family, for others wealth respect etc etc...So God is helping out in 590 ... Why we get qualified for hell fire? Coz we follow SATAN.. Isn't it.. That's what God says on the day of judgement .you followed Satan though I advised you to take him as enemy... But we have never seen SATAN then how come we followed SATAN.. Strange.. Isn't it.. That's key.. Coz WORKS of Satan that is to say works which are evil and WORKS which deviate from right path, WORKS which forgets God's remembrance etc are obviously ACTIONS of Satan which most on earth love and prevelant ... They are wide spread than right path... So don't choose them in life .... But choose what is right then you are not following the footsteps of Satan...
Deception is the right word... We get deceived coz it looks decorated to eyes plus mind... For example.. What did Iblees do to Adam.. Sheer deception... Deceiving is work of Satan.. Deceiving from what? From truth... But are we fool to get deceived? No.. So how we get deceived.. Coz Satan's WORKS are very fancy or rather mind bobling and human mind is vulnerable .. So we get attracted... So without knowledge we follow him... But true believers don't... They restrict themselves... They seek guidance from God.. They seek refuge in God from Satans WORKS..
We do, and why we blame SATAN... For example we drink intoxicants and why blame SATAN and how come it can become work of Satan while the one who drank is responsible... Not Satan made intoxicants either but human.. Very tricky... God has created good things... But satan has influenced to make bad things on earth out of good things... For example God has forbidden killing an innocent, but satan propels to do that... Satan never kills.. That's why Musa said after somehow killing an innocent, this is work of Satan but Musa did. . note well coz Evil is the only thing satan propels.. Satan never propels it whispers good things.. His entire life is plotting to deceive with evil. And Satan knows only that work or that path... That's why God calls that is from the Work of Satan... It is not the work of human.. Coz human was created perfectly but with free will... Satan (Iblees) was given respite and his only challenge is to deceive all of human ... And send astray all of us... To do this massive mission, SATAN can only have qualities of Evil and non other... So don't take such evil traits into you as human and if you take you and Satan same... Satan is promised Hell fire but human was sent to be tested, so we have scope to reform but never with evil path...In a nutshell... Satan is like a filthy water and human is pure water... Satan will only add to his filthy water more filthy water and never will add pure water into it..never.. Yes... Never.. He is cursed... No reforming by Satan.. He is destined for hell fire ... His life span is only to dupe us.. No other aim of Satan in life... But don't add filthy water to your pure water..... Human is not cursed... We are given an opportunity . Don't make it filthy...
So I hope anyone curious on this topic got me.. To wind up.. Satan doesn't take intoxicants or play game of chance literally or kill others. But he wants us to do what is in his mind.. So we end up same as him... His fate is decided by Allah already.. That's why he has adorn to dupe us...
SATAN never does any bad things like we do in life except he deceive us thus show us path of evil over path of righteous...So if you kill that's what Satan wants or if you drink intoxicants thsts what SATAN wants in them satan feel happy coz he nears to his word with God...
Neither SATAN loser from his challenge nor God loser to Satan but we are losers if we allow it to happen... But anyway.. Most on Earth will fail coz SATAN will definitely keep us away from remembrance of God.. Away from. Remembrance of God means actions of evil will definitely will be in life... In actions/works of evil SATAN Grt pleased not God.. If Allah displeased then fate is hell fire..We can't avoid Satan, we can avoid works of Satan if we want..
Thank you for reading... Hope. You reflect in your own way..

Is there a problem guys?
Avoiding shaitan is avoiding his works. His works are the rijs ,so it is avoiding the rijs.
590 is just saying avoid the rijs which is from the works of shaitan that are mentioned in the verse.
GOD bless you.

peace,
with leading alif denotes a repeated action- needs to be specific — avoids “him” is not
- masculine plurals are feminine “ha” not “hu”

Well... I agree part of what is stated by you... Yes we can't avoid RIJS.. coz it is not an action basically... We can remove RIJS.. It is consequence of an action / work... RIJS is impurity /defilement and it has deep rooted meaning through Quran..but not physical impurity..
Meanwhile we can't avoid Satan as well.. It is not in our hand to avoid physical satan.. He will come behind you and in front of you and he will inspire you with all he can and he is a seasoned campaigner for such... Honestly tailor made to deceive.. So we can't avoid Satan...
What we can do is follow what is truth so we avoid the works of evil / SATAN inspire evil .I recommend all believers to read all SATAN verses in Quran.. I am sure all of you will get clarified if you read all verses of Satan (8. Main weapon of Satan is DECEPTION and EVIL against built in truth of God..
Tell me anyone how to avoid Satan? .. I am sure no one can reply unless they say avoid such and such WORK... Or tell me how to avoid RIJS? Same reply..For example if one avoids idols he in fact kept away from RIJS thus not followed Satan's Works..
Is there a problem guys?

No issues brother... These are called clarification... And not compromise... those who follow Quran alone always listen and use intelligence for their own clarification... They never opt another human book and compromise...
Note... Even a believer in this case say in this verse it meant SATAN or RIJS or WORKS... It doesnt matter... It won't affect their faith... As long as they don't reach another source... God will they will get clarified with what is truth soon..
So.. AVOID works /amal of SATAN so you impulsively kept away RIJZ and Satan in life.. If you not avoid works, then you worshipped SATAN thus you became RIJS...
Thank you...

While individuals may prioritize the Quran for clarification, it is important to recognize that consulting other sources can enrich understanding. Engaging with additional human books does not necessarily imply compromise or weaken faith. Different interpretations and scholarly discussions contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the Quranic message.

2185 " .... revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs for the guidance and criterion. .... "
God must be kidding by saying above.. Isn't it... So to enrich comprehensive understanding human book is mandatory ..so human can explain better guidance and proofs for guidance and criterion... Isn't it?
In the name of comprehensive enrichment don't get trapped by discarding God's true mesaage... Literally that's what has happened with conventional Muslims sadly... They don't follow Quran at all.. It's not my statement merely.. It's evidence.. How? It is my own personal experience.. Coz wasn't I a conventional Muslim once upon a time... Didnt I know whether I followed Quran or not? I never followed Quran.. If I recollect all what I did, all I did was mocking Quran... But I did all what they still do... If that is right let them do.... Coz they have freedom.. But I am free from their works..Compromise is what they wanted when Quran was revealing so that they can bring another book... They didn'tike quran do they wanted make Mohamed a close friend so that they will hear what they prefer...
No compromise with faith... Coz our faith is in Quran alone.. But we respect people and their tradition and Whateve r good they do... We are human.. But no compromise with Quran that's our life line...Human invented books can be compromised for better enrichment but not with God's book.. We always looked for better books better teachers while we study at college.. That's true.. For comprehensive enrichment... But all we looked for are human invented books and human knowledge... Here God's book purpoae is utterly different...
Thank you... Keep enriching.. But ensure to follow a path in constant manner...

Thank you for expressing your thoughts on the Quran and the importance of adhering strictly to its teachings. I appreciate your passion and dedication to following the Quran as your life line.
While it is true that the Quran is a divine guidance and criterion, it is also important to recognize the value of human interpretation and understanding. The Quran itself encourages critical thinking, reflection, and the pursuit of knowledge. Human books and knowledge can indeed complement our comprehension of the Quran's message, as long as they are approached with the intention of enriching our understanding, not diluting or discarding the true message of God.
While your personal experiences have shaped your perspective, it's essential to remember that individuals may have different approaches to their faith and understanding of the Quran. It is not for us to judge or mock those who interpret the Quran differently. Respect for others' traditions and beliefs is crucial, even if we have divergent viewpoints.
As for compromise, it is important to strike a balance between staying true to the Quran and respecting the diversity within the Muslim community. While our faith is rooted in the Quran, we can still engage in fruitful dialogue and learning from others without compromising our core beliefs.
Let us continue on our journey of enrichment and understanding, while also fostering respect and open-mindedness. Together, we can strive to follow a path of constant growth and adherence to our faith.

It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it.2185
The month of Ramaḍān in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights the month,1 let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. -
While individuals may prioritize the Quran for clarification, it is important to recognize that consulting other sources can enrich understanding. Engaging with additional human books does not necessarily imply compromise or weaken faith. Different interpretations and scholarly discussions contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the Quranic message.
As long as your idol scholars only use the Quran or other books sent down by Allah to gain understanding, then that's fine. It just like what we have on the most topic in this forum.
Problems will arise if your idol scholars use books like hadiths of Bukhori etc, to gain understanding from the Quran. They and those who follow them will be subject to the following verses
544 We have sent down the Taurat, in it is a guidance and a light; the prophets who have submitted judged with it for those who are Jewish, and the Rabbis, and the Priests, for what they were entrusted of the Book of God, and they were witness over. So do not be concerned with the people but be concerned with Me; and do not purchase with My revelations a cheap price. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the rejecters.
545 And We have decreed for them in it that a life for a life, and an eye for an eye, and a nose for a nose, and an ear for an ear, and a tooth for a tooth, and the wounds to be impartial; and whoever remits anything of it, then it will cancel sins for him. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the wicked.
547 And let the people of the Injeel judge with what God has sent down in it. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the wicked.
Now why do you still believe in those who judge not with what God has sent down? Is it because they look pious? holy?
One of the greatest human weaknesses is always trying to cult other people who are considered holy. Jesus became God. The Imam became pure from sin, not to mention the companions of the prophet.
Just follow the book, don't follow the tradition,
2170 And if they are told "Follow what God has sent down," they say "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing!" What if their fathers did not comprehend anything and were not guided?
Don't believe the propaganda that the people around the prophet had the best understanding. We are all the same as long as we follow God's book.
Just remember, the hypocrites were among the Prophet,
9101 And from among the Arabs around you are hypocrites, and from among the people of the city, they persist in hypocrisy. You do not know them, but We know them. We will punish them twice, then they will be returned to a great punishment.
And they were the one who changed the prophet's words,
481 And they say "Obedience" but when they come out from being with you a group of them prepares for other than what you have said, and God records what they planned. So turn away from them and put your trust in God. God is enough for your trust.
Who can guarantee you that you are not following the teachings of the hypocrites when drawing on sources other than the Quran?
Is this verse not enough for you?
548 And We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, affirming what is between your hands of the Book and superseding it. So judge between them by what God has sent down, and do not follow their desires from what has come to you of the truth...

Thank you for sharing your perspective and citing Quranic verses that highlight the importance of relying on the Quran as a source of guidance. I appreciate your commitment to following the Quran and seeking understanding directly from it.
I would like to clarify that my belief in engaging with the teachings of scholars and considering their interpretations is not a blind adherence to tradition or an endorsement of any individual as infallible. Rather, it is an acknowledgment that Islamic scholarship has developed over centuries, with scholars dedicating their lives to studying the Quran, its context, and its application in various circumstances.
The Quran itself encourages seeking knowledge and asking questions. It emphasizes the importance of learning from those who possess knowledge and understanding, as long as their interpretations are in line with the principles and teachings of the Quran. Therefore, engaging with the works of scholars allows for a broader exploration of perspectives and a deeper understanding of the Quran's message.
While it is essential to rely primarily on the Quran, scholars can provide valuable insights into the historical context, linguistic nuances, and practical applications of its teachings. By engaging in respectful dialogue and critical thinking, we can draw from the wisdom and knowledge of scholars while ensuring that their interpretations align with the fundamental principles of the Quran.
In the spirit of fostering understanding and unity within the Muslim community, let us continue to engage in open discussions, respectfully considering various viewpoints, and seeking guidance from the Quran in our pursuit of knowledge and faith.

Certainly did Allah confer favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error. The Quran encourages seeking knowledge and guidance from various sources, including learned individuals. Here are a few verses that emphasize the importance of acquiring knowledge
Surah Al-Isra (1736) "And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those will be questioned."
This verse advises against blindly following or pursuing matters without knowledge. It implies the importance of seeking knowledge before making judgments or decisions.Surah Al-Zumar (399) "Are those who know equal to those who do not know? Only they will remember people of understanding."
This verse highlights the distinction between those who possess knowledge and those who do not. It suggests that knowledgeable individuals have a higher capacity to understand and reflect.Surah Al-Nahl (1643) "And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed . So ask the people of the message if you do not know."
This verse encourages seeking guidance from people who have been entrusted with divine revelation. It implies that seeking knowledge and clarification from those who possess knowledge is a valid approach.Surah Al-Anbiya (217) "And We sent not before you, , except men to whom We revealed , so ask the people of the message if you do not know."
Similar to the previous verse, this one emphasizes the role of knowledgeable individuals who have received divine revelation. It suggests that seeking knowledge and understanding from them is a means of acquiring guidance. It's important to note that while seeking knowledge from learned individuals is encouraged, it should always be done with critical thinking, verifying information against the Quran and the teachings of Islam. The Quran serves as the ultimate source of guidance, and any knowledge acquired from other sources should align with its principles and teachings.

You are really confused... Yes... You definitely should look for learned sources... Coz you don't understand Quran at all but you understand learned sources... How come that is possible? Is it magic in their learned sources that makes you understand.. Answer directly if you really want to engage in a discourse... Everyone can perceive how awkward your answers for direct questions... Either you keep appreciating or respond far from question... Do you think readers are lacking in perception...
Meanwhile carefully read what I write and respond...or you need another source to understand what I write.. Anyway.. Below is what you wrote..
"It's important to note that while seeking knowledge from learned individuals is encouraged, it should always be done with critical thinking, verifying information against the Quran and the teachings of Islam. The Quran serves as the ultimate source of guidance, and any knowledge acquired from other sources should align with its principles and teachings."
Meticulously read again and again what you say... Then reply..
You already don't understand Quran.. Then how you align what you learned from other sources with Quran ... Why you want to align as if you already know Quran...
Okay bring me such a chapter that you aligned after reading learned sources.. And bring the learned sources as well for my verification.. Pls.. Don't skip direct answer then this would be my last answer if you do so..
As God says.. Why you keep admonishing him as if he would get reminded.. How would you know he will get guided.. "" Yes.. God speak the truth.. But I am like a kind person keep reminding you.. But not after your reply to this.. Perhaps Reminder assist.. But it only assit those who are so humble and fearing God.. Anyway answer...Let me tell you... You are like.. You bought a product from ABC compamy and they gave you a manual... But you don't understand their manual but when you read LMN company's manual you understand your product.. Wow.. Then you align.. Then why in the first place you bought ABC company product.. You Could have bought all manuals first and could have bout LMN product instead.. Got my parable.... You should advice ABC company to write their manual in a legible manner so you don't need other manuals to assist... Lol
Admonition helps but not who look guidance outside of God's book..""""" bring me asap such outside sources to see what miracle written in it so I also get some depth enrichment in Quran by reading them. By the way.. who are those people who are comprrhensive in knowledge of Quran and what are they following... Who are they? Are they conventional Muslims or who? Or are you in your dreams talking about alien people who never exist..
""" You already approached learned sources... So why critical thinking and verification.. So do you doubt those learned sources... ?
After all you are the most learned sources... You know why.. You skipped from learned scholars many a view by your critical thinking and verification... Isn't it and then you understand Quran.. Don't you and the silly part of you...
""" so in the learned sources also critical thinking and veifiocation should by applied, THEN WHY NOT APPLY CRITICAL THINKING IN GOD'S BOOK ITSELF****
-
Dear jkhan,
Thank you for expressing your thoughts. I apologize if my previous responses came across as confusing or inadequate. I appreciate your perspective and understand your concern about relying on learned sources while not fully understanding the Quran myself.
When I mentioned seeking knowledge from learned individuals, I meant that it can be beneficial to consult experts who have studied the Quran extensively and have a deep understanding of its teachings. However, it is crucial to approach their knowledge with critical thinking and verify the information against the Quran itself. The Quran serves as the ultimate source of guidance, and any knowledge acquired from other sources should align with its principles and teachings.
As for aligning what I have learned from other sources with the Quran, it involves careful examination, comparison, and analysis. It's not about assuming I already know the Quran, but rather seeking further clarity and understanding by studying different perspectives and interpretations within the boundaries of Islamic scholarship.
I encourage you to continue your pursuit of knowledge and engage in critical thinking and verification. Islamic scholarship comprises a wide range of individuals, including traditional scholars, researchers, and Quranic experts. It is advisable to consult reputable scholars and sources recognized within the Muslim community.
Let us engage in respectful dialogue and strive to deepen our understanding of the Quran and its teachings. If you have any further questions or specific topics you'd like to discuss, I'm here to assist.
Peace to you as well.
