Yes.. Sun will tell what time of the day it is… But the Sun is beyond that.. It will definitely expose you to which season you are in and which possible month you are in based on its position and time of rising and setting ….. so we can’t restrict the Sun to one thing..
Meanwhile, Yes the Moon will tell you what time of the night it is but more than the Moon, the stars will tell you the exact time of the night because the Moon won’t always be in the night sky .. during full moon days yes moon will be in the night sky throughout the night almost.. but many other nights Moon will rise very late night.. But stars are always there if one recognizes most of the stars where he lives its a pattern of the entire year. Because it never changes.. And yes it will tell you which month you are in.. But the Moon will most probably disclose to you in which phase of the month you are in and as well what time it is at night.. Yes, the Moon can also tell you which phase of the year you are in but it is very tricky but the Sun will easily tell you which season you are in..

i actually only wanted to share this with everyone, that it is siratal mustaqeen, to be satisfied with what Allah has given us and to not go beyond it. yes with algebra you could make equations to match the cycles of the lights with each other ... however that is not the graceful use of the lights to tell the time. they report on themselves, not each other, so to try to make a year out of twelve months is a disgraceful thing.
