    Greetings all,

So you've got your own little belief about what salat is, how many times you're supposed to do it, and when. You're confident that you're on top of the issue, and you try to convince others of your belief. And they try and do the same.

? How can you possibly hold the belief that your own method and understanding are the right one, when millions of others maintain a conflicting method and understanding?

? So, who's right (if anyone), and what is God going to do to those who haven't "got it right"? What will it mean if someone is doing something completely different to what God actually meant by "salat"?

      Salaam Nazz,

Well, first of all, I won't say that what I know now about shalat is the absolute truth or "correct" understanding. I just know that this is where my journey in shalat has brought me; and that journey is still going and don't really know when it will end. (come to think of it, I've experienced quite a number of changes and insights regarding shalat... oh well...)

However brother, do you think that all people should understand a concept (in this case shalat) in exactly the same way?

And for who is right and who is wrong, only God can tell.
My position in this is to keep learning as much as possible; so that by God's Grace and Mercy, I might fully understand it in the future.

Personally I see 3 times for salat again, but thats my choice and I may be wrong,if so I will change it again when I see that I am wrong. http//www.quran-islam.org/165.html

True Only GOD knows and we must continue to learn,as long as our hearts are in the right place and we are seeking knowledge and the truth I believe GOD will not hold it against us.

          Peace

I think the reason why The Koran does not give alot of instruction on how exactly to do salaat is because God wants each Muslim to do it from the heart instead of what scholars or traditions say. As a matter of fact, in the Torah, God said one of the most important things he wanted from the children of Israel was that they serve Him with their heart and soul. So basically no version of salaat is wrong. As long as you are honestly worshiping God in your salaat and from the heart, you shouldn't have to worry about anything.

                Peace be upon you all,

I believe that salaat is a definate thing, not subject to change. Just that most peolple dont understand it. I will not be so bold to say I understand 100%, but not far away at all. Because its about CHANGE, and we can objectively measure the different methods to see if they produce CHANGE.

                  G'day Elke,

whom are u talking to ? If u follow the discussion on this forum, u'll see that there is not one definition of "salat" and fortunately our understandings can evolve.
I have been following the discussion on this forum, which is precisely why I have posted this topic.

For the very reason that there are so many different views concerning Salat, begs the question, "how can people force their understanding on another with such confidence?"

Ive changed my style of salat as many as there are days in a month..Where Im at now I may not be tomorrow.

I hear ya. But hey, when you're doing your 3 or 5 salat a day, what exactly are you doing? If its a form the ritual bowing and prostrating with the set phrases and units then...

                    hello nazz

                    you asked

"how can people force their understanding on another with such confidence?"

Anybody trying to force an understanding on u? Most people here would tell u to search and find out for urself and the diversity of views can be confusing, yes, on the other hand they can make you consider many possibilies that a traditionnal, ritual following person would never even think of...may be because he doesn't think roll Now if some people think they have the only possible and exact understanding, i can only hope for them that they are right.

                    peace lk
