God's modest personality

Peace be upon you all,
know he's not a guy, but would there be any harm in calling him one? He does say call me by any name you like. Sometimes when I supplicate I go
"O you upstaris, sort me out..."
Natu, just want to share my thoughts on this for you to ponder. It is my understanding that the thinking of the God as "upstairs" is opposite to what we are being taught. We have to be very careful because even the weight of the ATOM wil be weighed, so no think is TOO SMALL that it can be overlooked.
The God tells the messenger that God sees him looking about the skies (man upstairs), but then tells him of the CORRECT Qibla(focus), which is WITHIN, the mental place of hearing and obeying the God's restrictions. Musa was told to remove his shoes because the journed is to the valley WITHIN(tuwa).
When we think of the God as "Out there", or "up there", it gives us the impression of the God as being SEPERATE from us, but the God tells us He is near, closer than the jugular vein.
I think that should be seriously meditated upon until the point where we don't look to the skies when thinking about the God, but instead MEDITATE WITHIN is reached.
Also, refering to the God with any human resemblance is also something which seems small (it did for me for so long), but its really not a small thing. If you set of in a boat with only a very small error in degree, you could end up missing the whole continent you are aiming for. It helps me to think of the God as the bodiless intelligence that permeates all things, that comes to earth through the forms IT creates.
I had to comment here because I don't want any of my family here to lose thier intensity, and take anything as being too small of an issue.

But again, I don't literally mean he's a modest guy, he's just quite smart and I saw a wee little patern so I thought I'd point it out.
Please no "wee"-ing in this forum. Use a latrine!
Just kidding -)Regards,
Ey! Don't dis da Irish bruvas evil I wish I had their accent - iz excellent! D

Peace bro Mehdi.
peace Natu,
thank you for the further explanation... imo.. another reason why we as a race have strayed off the Path.. also might be due to a lack humor at times
So true! Has anyone ever seen a mullah man laugh? If you have then they're probably the ojnes to call to free-minds!
my first response is yes.. simply because calling God a guy again relates God to you or me... also by saying guy relates God to that of somthing material... which can lead back to the idol sense...
You guys are right man, I didn't realise how serious this was!
also as far as formality goes.. there is a time for formality and time to be more relaxed.. on a message board at times it might be hard to understand the difference between the two.. if my last post was too formal.. please forgive me )
Its good you did man, brought me to my senses! If I can complain about the kaba, I'd be a hipcrite to carry on calling him a guy. Any chance to reduce the risk we should all take it immediately, thats how I go about it anyway. Thanks for your help, I was making big mistakes.
please explain more how you see this as a modest behaviour of God..
I guess he tends not to say things like "I am your God worshipe me" or "I am the almighty" or "I am the merciful" - someone else always appears to say this kind of thing. I think perhaps he is saying it becuase he knows that we would find it less acceptable to read of God who keeps bigging himself up and showing off. So in that sense I think he is modest. Did that make sense to anyone? )

Peace be with you Kyle.

Thank you so much bruv, I don't know why I never thought about it like that! God willing I will change myself.
I still have a question though. God says we can call him by any name we wish. What about if I call him "Murphy"? Since thats a human's name isn't it. What names could we call him other than those attributes given to him in the reading?

Dear Kyle - do you see now why you were nominated for mods post? I swear if you were walking down the street and said that to me, I'd buy you a pizza there and then! I don't know if I'll ever see you on this planet walking down the street but in the next life I'll definitely buy you a pizza (If I'm there as well as you that is roll )

Peace Natu,

Allah has warned us not to call Him by names He has not authorized
5320 Have you considered Allaat and Al-`Uzzah?
5321 And Manaat, the third one?
5322 Do you have the males, while He has the females?
5323 What a strange distribution!
5324 These are but names that you made up, you and your forefathers. God never authorized such. They only follow conjecture, and personal desire, while the guidance has come to them from their Lord.771 He said "An affliction and wrath shall befall you from your Lord. Do you argue with me over names which you and your fathers have created with no authority being sent down by God? Wait then, and I will wait with you."
1241 "What you serve besides Him are nothing but names which you have created you and your fathers, God did not send down any authority for such. The judgment is for none but God.
We can call Him by any name out of all the beautiful names He has authorized for Himself in Al-Qur'aan.
7181 And to God belong the beautiful names, so call Him by them; and ignore those who blaspheme in His names. They will be punished for what they used to do.
What are the beautiful names? Allah specifies them Himself
5923 He is God; there is no other god beside Him. Knower of all secrets and declarations. He is the Almighty, the Merciful.
5924 He is God; there is no other god beside Him. The King, the Holy, the Peace, the Faithful, the Supreme, the Noble, the Powerful, the Dignified. God be glorified; far above what they set up.
5925 He is God; the Creator, the Initiator, the Designer. To Him belong the most beautiful names. Glorifying Him is everything in the heavens and the Earth. He is the Noble, the Wise.Regards,
Tanveer

TanveerWell there goes God as modest argument. It looks like God is rather "proud" of himself! I guess He can be because He is after all God -)
This what happens when you think God in "anthropomorphic" terms, you make God another being like us but much bigger and powerful.

Peace Natu,
All the beautiful names belong to God, you know the attribute of being the 'Almighty' can be expressed in many ways in different languages. Each individual understands God in a different way, I don't like using the term 'God' but I am lazy when it comes to typing! lol

I think that these verses are talking about people who invented idols besides the Most high, like the so called 'daughter of god' mentioned in 5320-21 and not the Creator Himself. But I agree that people might attribute false attributes to the Creator, but I haven't seen that being done intentionally or in a serious manner so far in this forum.
For example some people thing that God's power is limited. Therefore they might not call him the Most Powerful rather something else that reflects the limit to these individuals who blaspheme in this way.
Also I think your are taking them out of context to promote this concept of only using names authorised by the book, nowhere does it say that, infact it says in the book that beautiful names belong to God. There are names that are cool and have not been mentioned in the book. E.g 'the one who never gets Confused', or the 'Problemless', you know what i mean?!

Excellent question, and the answer is that we do not call the God by "names" but by DESCRIPTIONS/ATTRIBUTES, the BEST descriptions/attributes.
The Most High, The ALL Knowing, The Most Merciful, etc. When we make up names for the God, we are off the path. The God is above "names", above defining by words. Even the attributes cannot encompass him, but that is the closet we can get on this level. This low level of names is where there are DEFINITIONS, which seperate the WHOLE into parts.
