90:10 Translation
-
Peace be upon you all,
What is the correct translation and understanding of the following verse?
9010
Transliteration - Wahadaynahu alnnajdayni
Y.Ali - And shown him the two highways?
R.Khalifa - Did we not show him the two paths?
Pickthal - And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways?
Shakir - And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways?
Literal - And We guided him (to) the two paths/good or bad ? -
peace bro,
This is how I did it...
After checking openburhan and getting the root - NunJiimDal, i looked up DofQ (u MUST get this book), and it says 'al najdayn' is a noun, dual, meaning to overcome, prevail over, become manifest.
the first word root is haDalYa, its in prl, it means to guide/show/direct.
In most of these cases, the literal trans. is often the most accurate, from my experience.
in a more deeper lexicon NJD probably implies an open/clear/manifest route
And We shown/directed/guided you to the two ways/journies/routes (or whatever word you feel represents the meanings in context)

I cannot claim to have the correct translation, but I belive that the two paths/roads in 10 refers to the relation between tongue and two lips.
"( Didn't we set him off with a pair of eyes, (9) a tongue and a pair of lips? (10) We led him to the crossroads (11) in order for him not to rush his way onto the steep path..."
