    Peace

A person asked me what the different stages meant, that are mentioned in the Quran. As an answer i have written this short explanation of the stages mentioned in the Quran

10 3. Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in SIX STAGES, and He is firm in power, regulating the affair, there is no intercessor except aher His permission; this is Allah, your Lord, therefore serve Him; will you not then mind?

    1. It is He who created the heavens and the earth In SIX SPANS, and has control over the waters (of life) so that he may bring out the best that everyone of you could do. Yet if you said to them "You shall certainly be raised from the dead," the unbelievers will say "This will be nothing but sorcery."

    2. It is God who created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, in SIX SPANS, then assumed all authority. You have no protector other than Him, nor any intercessor. Will you not be warned even then?

    3. It is He who created the heavens and the earth in SIX STAGES, then assumed the throne. He knows whatsoever enters the earth, and whatsoever comes out of it, and what comes down from the sky and what goes up to it; and He is with you wheresoever you may be, and He perceives whatsoever you do.

This talks about from the moment of the creation of matter, and the organizing of the matter into clusters and eventualy into stars and planets and so on from the big-bang to now. The evolution of the universe took 6 different stages, and the earth and other planets and stars were developed in 2 stages. Life was developed in 4 stages. So together, it took 6 stages to result in evolved life. These stages don't refer to time stages, but to different levels of evolution of the universe and its life in it, each needing its own step with its own timespan. The biggest mistake people make is looking at the stages as if they occur with each taking the exact same time. So let's see what the Quran tells us more.

    1. Say "Do you refuse to believe in Him who created the earth in TWO SPANS of time, and set up compeers to Him, the Lord of all the worlds?

41 12. Then He created several skies in TWO SPANS, and ingrained in each sky its function, decking the nearest heaven with lamps, and guarded it. This has been determined by the mighty and all-knowing.

As you can see, the Quran explains here, that the earth is part of the heavens, the stars and all other formations in the universe. So this refers to all formations in the universe of stars and planet-bodies took 2 stages. Remember these stages don't refer to every stage taking the same amount of time, but refer to different stages, parts of development. So let's see to which stages the Quran refers too

    STAGE 1 THE BIG-BANG

    1. Do not these unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were bound together, then We split/seperated/disunited them (fataq) and made every living thing from water? Will they not believe even then?

Cosmologist Martin Rees in his book, Our cosmic habit(2001)
"Our universe may once have been squeezed to a single point, but everyone whether on earth, or Andromeda, or even on the galaxies remotests from us can equally claim to have started from that point.."(page 55)

Astrophysicist Paul Davies in his book, The mind of God(1992)
"....the basis of the well-known big-bang theory, according to which the entire universe came into existence abruptly, about fifteen billion years ago, in a gigantic explosion."(page 47)

"The universe evidently began, in some sense,"wound up", and is still currently unwinding. If one imagines "running the cosmic movie backward", then the galaxies get closer and closer together until they merge.(pages 47-

Look at the words he choose"wound up", and see what words God used for"bound together". It coincides perfectly.

Also really important note is the use of the word "fataq" which means to break, dissolve, seperate, split. And the opposite word "rataq" meaning to merging, attaching of elements to make them one. These are the perfect definitions for the big-bang, as the opposite of the word ?fataq?, ?rataq? defines exactly the situation from before the big-bang, as the word ?fataq? defines exactly the situation of the big-bang.

Then the expansion began, Paul Davies again
"They found that the universe is, in fact, EXPANDING, with the galaxies rushing away from each other."(page 47)

5147 And the sky, We built it with might and We cause THE EXPANSION of it."

STAGE 2 EVOLVING FROM LOOSE ENERGY AND MATTER INTO CLUSTERS OF PLANETS AND STARS

    1. Then He turned to the heavens, and it was SMOKE(dukhaan). So He said to it and the earth "Come with willing obedience or perforce." They said "We come willingly."

Astrophysicists Neil deGrasse Tyson and Donald Goldsmith in their book, Origins
"Astrophysicists now have good evidence that stars form, not one by one but by the thousands and tens of thousands, within giant CLOUDS OF GAS and dust that may eventually give birth to about a million individual stars."(page 185-6)

Now look at the term used here in the Quran, the word "dukhaan" which means literaly "smoke". Smoke is made up out of DUST AND GAS, so there could not have been a better word for it to be used. As in the quote above it is clearly mentioned the stars and planets where formed out of DUST AND GAS.

After these 2 stages that took billions of years(estimated around 10 billion years) our earth was formed, then after the forming of the young earth the last 4 stages occured that formed life.

    1. He placed firm stabilisers rising above its surface, blessed it with plenty and growth, and ingrained the means of growing its food within it, sufficient for all seekers, in FOUR SPANS.

    2. Do not these unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were bound together, then We split/seperated/disunited them and made every living thing from water? Will they not believe even then?

    3. (Moses) said "Our Lord is He who gave everything its natural form/creation and directed/guided it."

    THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE

These are the last four stages, which together with the first two stages of the creation. Give together the six that are mentioned in the verses 103, 117, 574 and 324.

The FIRST of these four, refer to the emergence and forming of the first larger amino-acids, which formed RNA and DNA. This started in water, and then from clay.

    1. Do not these unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were an integrated mass, then We split them and made every living thing from water? Will they not believe even then?

    2. God created every moving thing from water One crawls on its belly, one walks on two legs, another moves on four. God creates whatsoever He will. Indeed God has power over everything.

    3. It is He who created man from water, then gave him consanguinity and affinity. Your Lord is omnipotent.

    4. Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard,

    5. But when your Lord said to the angels "I am verily going to create a human being from fermented clay dried tingling hard;

    6. "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?"

    7. Who made all things He created excellent; and first fashioned man from clay,

    8. He created man of fermented clay dried tinkling hard like earthen ware,

Here is an quotation of one of Holland's leading scholars, Professor dr. Stephen B.J.Menken, Chief Evolutionbiologist of Amsterdam University
"With the making of the first step to the primal soup which contains all basicelements for life to a living organism, we stumble upon a lot of problems. One of the problems is the UV-radiation of the sun. We are protected by our skin and the earth's ozonlayer from the worst radiation. The young earth didn't have a protecting ozonlayer, so the UV-radiation reached freely the atmosphere and the top waterlayers. A second problem is that the most simple organic substances can move in all directions in a watery substance. For life to emerge, it is necassery that the substances remain together, a third problem is the sensitivity of DNA and RNA, mainly the carbonic-sugars, which brake apart easy.
There must have happened two things will the substances of the primal soup evolve to something more complicating, to life. The substances must remain together and protected against harmfull influences from outside. The second most important theory is that of the clayparticles. These particles are common on earth. They're layered, smaller then two micrometre and can bind all organic molecules and make them react with each other. On the surface of the clayparticles, can by example, RNA been build up from simple molecules. Next to that, enhance the clayparticles, the forming of fatty-acids, in which an enviroment can evolve which is seperated from the outside world. The walls of every cell, of plants, animals and fungies, are build up out of double layered fatty-acids. In a solution of fatty-acids together with clayparticles, bindings emerge of double layered fatty-acids. If on the surface of the inclosed clayparticles, molecules get 'stuck', this can be most important for the origins of life, then by this theory can we explain the build of the primitive cell."

The SECOND STAGE is that of the first one-celled, the blue-algues that produced also large countities of oxigen. These one-celled made the first steps for complexer organisms, and evolved further into other one-celled, and later one formed complexer multi-celled clusters. In these clusters, each cell got its own function, as they were all seperate cells working together, without a central nerve-system. As the enviromental changes forced the clusters into becoming more complex and in need for a central control centre, which triggered the forming of cells with the function of guiding the other cells functions, a simple nerve-system.

The THIRD STAGE was the multiple-celled organisms that emerged from the multi-celled clusters that had simple nerve-systems. These evolved further into far complexer organisms with specific organs and highly complex nerve-systems. As the early reptiles(including dinosaurs), birds, insects, fishes and other sealife, amfibiants and mammals. After this third stage, it was ready for the fourth and last stage, that of the beings with highly evolved nerve-systems that have high conciousness's.

    1. God created every moving thing from water One crawls on its belly, one walks on two legs, another moves on four. God creates whatsoever He will. Indeed God has power over everything.

STAGE FOUR The emergence of humans. This process took millions of years. Where each stage succeeded one another. Till we, the homo sapiens are the last result. And also other higher mammals as whales and dolphins.

6133 "If (God) wills, He destroys you and in your place appoints whom He wills as SUCCESSORS just as He brought you forth from the descendants of other peoples."

7628 "Indeed, We created them and strenghtened them; and when We willed, replace them completely with peoples like them/of the same kind."

7114 And He created you in stages/phases.

    1. The creation of the heavens and the earth and all the living things dispersed in them, are a sign of His. He has the power to gather them together when He will.

      peace arnoldyasin,

have you ever heard of the "big clutch theory", i once saw it on a science documentary. the theory goes like this

"if the universe is expanding, as it will continue to expand, won't we reach a time when the process is reversed and we come back to what we started from(that single concentration of energy)?(won't we run out of energy?)"

really, this is more of a hypothesis rather than a theory.

      check this sitehttp//www.umich.edu/~gs265/bigbang.htm

      peace, rifat

        Peace,

we have several major theories and best one still have to come out in time. But one thing we do know is, that 1. the universe will start over again. 2. we will be created again(this is really a theory coming from quantum physics). So it will all implode, and start over. Exactly how they still differ a bit.

I will check the link later thanx.

          Peace Arnoldyasin,

Interesting theory. So far it doesn't contradict the mainstream scientific explanations.

            Peace brother Arnold,

As you can see, the Quran explains here, that the earth is part of the heavens, the stars and all other formations in the universe. So this refers to all formations in the universe of stars and planet-bodies took 2 stages.

There seems to be a problem with the underlined portions of your interpretation.

            1. Then He turned to the heavens, and it was smoke (dukhaan). So He said to it and the earth "Come with willing obedience or perforce." They said "We come willingly."

As is clear from the above verse, when the heaven (al-samaa) was at the smoke stage, earth was already present. This clearly shows that the two spans Allah used to CREATE earth are TEMPORALLY DIFFERENT from the two spans used to make the seven heavens (samawaat) and stars (lamps) from one heaven (al-samaa). So those two spans for creation of earth and the two spans for making seven heavens and stars from one heaven are NOT TEMPORALLY SAME as you imply in your post but are SEQUENTIAL. Also "al-samaa" is mentioned separate from "al-ardh" so "al-ardh" cannot be part of "al-samaa" as you imply.

My understanding is that in 419-12 Allah doesn't mention the first timespans of creation of "al-samaa" but mentions the two timespans required to make seven heavens and stars from one heaven AFTER HEAVEN WAS CREATED. These two timespans were TEMPORALLY AFTER the two timespans of CREATION of earth. The four timespans in which Allah stabilized the earth and established its provisions therefore, logically, OVERLAP TEMPORALLY with the two timespans required to make seven heavens and stars from one smoky heaven. The 4 timespans of stabilizing and establishing provisions of earth and the two timespans of making seven heavens and stars from one heaven are not part of the six timespans of CREATION as rightly pointed out by brother Andya at the following link
