    Salam.
I wonder if any one else has gone through the same thing Im going through right now, and what you did?
My parents thinks it's about time for me to marry someone. And not only that. They want to choose who Im going to marry. I have refused this far, but it's hard. I want to get married, but I want to choose for myself.
Any suggestions of what I should do?

    Wa salam
    Nadia

Yep ive been there. My parents had this whole arrange marriage thing for me. But just like u, i refused. And i stayed put on it. The emotional blackmail was the hardest. But you have to keep in mind, God wont hold u for this. This IS the right thing to do. Get past the emotional black mail. They WILL get over it. Hope this helps.

        Salaam Sister Nadia,

Very brave sister that you finally decided to speak out about this.

I really hope the best for you and of course you should find a man to marry on your own, you are an adult.

        Take Care!

        Many hugs your sister
        Majidah

          peace Nadia,

This is against 'the reading'. (al quran)

I'm not sure if this is the only sign/ayah, but show them 419 for example.

            Salam.

Thank you Jaxal and sister Majidah for your support, and thank you Wakas for the aya.
I guess this isn't a religios matter but more a traditional one.
It's so hard to go against my own parents, bur in this case I dont think I have any other choices.

            Peace

            Nadia

                peace Nadia,

I never had much time to reply before, hence the short post.

Ahh yes tradition, many people mix the two as they please. I watched a documentary once and it was about Muslim reverts and in one case a female had reverted and married a Muslim Pakistani male. During the course of the interview, she said that she had to re-educate her husband about Islam, because "he was not brought up as a Muslim but as a Pakistani" lol Amusing as well as very true!

                Anyways, back to the topic...

You need to sit down and have a talk with your parents. But before doing that, you need to think up as many points in your favour as possible so you'll be ready when you have the talk, get your brothers/sisters on side (if you have any), or even friends/aunts/uncles/cousins etc. If they still wish to enforce a choice, try to compromise by allowing introductions to whom they wish to introduce you to but you get the final say.

                Wakas

Nadia one of the argument i made was my studies. Perhaps you can explain to them why ur studies are more important before u marry and make babies.

                    Assalamo alaikum Nadia(F)

What Jaxal just recommended u to say was great, u know the traditional arabic style!! - the most important for the parents is to see their "children" study, study, study..... x

I hope everything will work out, and I'll pray for u in sha Allah!!

                    Salaam sweety(F)

                      Salaam!

I dont know how to thank you all enough, for all your support. It has been a very hard time for me this past weeks, but today it came to an end, finelly. My father has accepted my wishes of making my own decisions. And I will return to my life this Sunday!!!
Thank you sis Majidah, and sis Sara. And most of all thank you S, I love you! Your patience with me only complaining all the time, meant so much to me. You gave me strength and hope.
And thanks for the advices Jaxal and Wakas.

                      Nadia
