i was a bit confused about the following verse n i hope u will clearfy it for me thanks in advance

O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day That is best, and most suitable for final determination.

who r the peoples with authority in the above verse

In my opinion, people in authority can be anyone from a president or a police officer or a teacher.

No not then. God asks us to part from our parents if they force us to something that goes against God. Ususally, it means that the laws set by his/her government. A christian or an athiest president is not going to tell me stop beleive in God. So i dont think we will ever face that scenario. But if he/she did, i will disobey and give him/her the middle finger.

I've seen this verse used countless times by members of the priest class in traditional Islam... the ulama and their disciples, to enforce their exclusive right to 'guide' people. I usually clashed with this class because in my own field no-one is infallible, even the highest authorities, but apparently the ulama class want to be thought as infallible.

And they are always pissed if I complained about Islam having a priest class... then they go back and say there are no priesthood in Islam. If I ask "What about you, are you not the priests?" they evade the question

Yes. In a democracy however, there is the option to get him replaced or leave the country if you're displeased with him.

The People Of Authority are those who were appointed to set right our needs and affairs. In my house they were my parents when I was young; when they become old they entrust their responsibility with me. When I go out taking my helper or servant with me, he takes over certain responsibilities of mine. So I have to follow him when I place my trust in him.

The people of authority are with regards to the worldly affairs upon whom we have placed our trust, next only to Allah. Look at the folowing verse

"... and take counsel with them in the affair; so when you have decided, then place your trust in Allah; surely Allah loves those who trust."
