ALLAH and FORGIVENESS

ALLAH IS OFT-FORGIVING
Say "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! DESPAIR NOT OF THE MERCY OF ALLAH FOR ALLAH FORGIVES ALL SINS for HE IS OFT-FORGIVING, MOST MERCIFUL. 3953.
O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. FOR ALLAH DOTH BLOT OUT SINS and FORGIVE AGAIN AND AGAIN.443.
Except those who are (really) weak and oppressed - men, women, and children - who have no means in their power, nor (a guide-post) to their way.
499. For these, there is hope that Allah will forgive For Allah doth blot out (sins) AND FORGIVE AGAIN AND AGAIN. 498.O you who believe! be careful of(your duty to) Allah and speak the right word, 3370.
He will put your deeds into a right state for you, and FORGIVE YOU YOUR FAULTS; and whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he indeed achieves a mighty success. 3371.And remember it was said to them "Dwell in this town and eat therein as ye wish, but say the word of humility and enter the gate in a posture of humility WE SHALL FORGIVE YOU YOUR FAULTS; We shall increase (the portion of) those who do good." 7161.

And when I am sick, then He restores me to health. 2680.
And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 2681.
And Who, I HOPE, WILL FORGIVE ME MY MISTAKES ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT. 2682.And Musa chose out of his people seventy men for Our appointment; so when the earthquake overtook them, he said My Lord! if Thou hadst pleased, Thou hadst destroyed them before and myself (too); wilt Thou destroy us for what the fools among us have done? It is naught but Thy trial, Thou makest err with it whom Thou pleasest and guidest whom Thou pleasest Thou art our Guardian, therefore forgive us and have mercy on us, and THOU ART THE BEST OF THE FORGIVERS. 7155.
The people of the Book ask thee to cause a book to descend to them from heaven indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle) for they said "Show us Allah in public" but they were dazed for their presumption with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them; EVEN SO WE FORGAVE THEM; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority. 4153
And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and YE DID GRIEVOUS WRONG. 251.
Even then WE DID FORGIVE YOU; there was a chance for you to be grateful. 252.Permitted to you on the night of the fasts is the approach to your wives. They are your garments. And ye are their garments. Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you AND FORGAVE YOU; so now associate with them and seek what Allah hath ordained for you and eat and drink until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread; then complete your fast till the night appears; but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat in the mosques. Those are limits (set by) Allah; approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His signs to men that they may learn self-restraint. 2187
Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission were about to annihilate your enemy until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the Booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you BUT HE FORGAVE YOU for Allah is full of grace to those who believe. 3152
He prayed "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul! Do Thou then forgive me!" SO (ALLAH) FORGAVE HIM for He is the Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. 2816
Allah?s instructions for us to forgive others
Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen those in want and those who have left their homes in Allah's cause let them forgive and overlook DO YOU NOT WISH THAT ALLAH SHOULD FORGIVE YOU? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. 2422

Those who spend (benevolently) in ease as well as in straitness, and THOSE WHO RESTRAIN (THEIR) ANGER AND FORGIVE MEN; and ALLAH LOVES THE DOERS OF GOOD (to others).

Tell those who believe TO FORGIVE THOSE WHO HOPE NOT FOR THE DAYS OF ALLAH; in order that He may requite folk what they used to earn.

Whoso doeth right, it is for his soul, and whoso doeth wrong, it is against it. And afterward unto your Lord ye will be brought back.

We ordained therein for them "Life for life, eye for eye, nose or nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." BUT IF ANY ONE REMITS THE RETALIATION BY WAY OF CHARITY, IT IS AN ACT OF ATONEMENT FOR HIMSELF. And if any fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (No better than) wrong-doers.

But because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard; they change the words from their (right) places and forget a good part of the message that was sent them, nor wilt thou cease to find them- barring a few - ever bent on (new) deceits BUT FORGIVE THEM, AND OVERLOOK (THEIR MISDEEDS) for ALLAH LOVETH THOSE WHO ARE KIND.

Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could Turn you (people) back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the Truth hath become Manifest unto them BUT FORGIVE AND OVERLOOK, Till Allah accomplish His purpose; for Allah Hath power over all thing

And those who, when great wrong afflicts them, defend themselves.

And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, BUT WHOEVER FORGIVES AND AMENDS, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely HE DOES NOT LOVE THE UNJUST.

And whoever defends himself after his being oppressed, these it is against whom there is no way (to blame).

The way (to blame) is only against those who oppress men and revolt in the earth unjustly; these shall have a painful punishment.

And WHOEVER IS PATIENT AND FORGIVING, these most surely are actions due to courage.

O ye who believe! Truly, among your wives and your children are (some that are) enemies to yourselves so beware of them! BUT IF YE FORGIVE AND OVERLOOK, AND COVER UP (THEIR FAULTS), verily ALLAH IS OFT-FORGIVING, Most Merciful.
HE PUNISHES WHOM HE PLEASES and HE GRANTS MERCY TO WHOM HE PLEASES and towards Him are ye turned. 2921.
WE HAVE TO FORGIVE AND OVER LOOK THE FAULTS OF THE OTHER?S, IF WE WANT ALLAH TO FORGIVE US OUR FAULTS.
REMEMBER IT IS ENTIRELY UP TO HIS DISCRETION, WHOM TO PUNISH AND WHOM TO FORGIVE AND WE WILL NOT BE CONSULTED .God bless you all,

Everytime I read words from the Qu'ran I feel this soothing sensation in my mind, heart, and body.
I hope though that Allah forgives us for all of our bad deeds and only counts our good deeds. The fire is not a place we should perish in.

I get this feeling of being especially watched when i read the words where Allah Most Powerful says that he will punish us for our sins and then i decide to be even more careful about what i do.
Of course, i get relaxed when i read that human being was created weak and that human being cannot achieve everything. Everything here, that is, on Earth.Sometimes i cry when i read the Jospeh story. That Messenger was TRULY patient. I wish i could have 50% of his patience.

wow things sure have changed here... i'm not sure i like this new color scheme. very little contrast, it's all blue.
anyway, it may be of interest to actually look at the word that is being translated as forgiveness, ghafara/maghfirah. it doesn't actually mean forgiveness, and so that may have quite an impact on the collection of verses above and our understanding of them. there's plenty of internet resources now to research that if you want. to greatly paraphrase, it means to protect.. and allah has certainly prescribed what needs to be done in order to gain this protection (it's not automatic and not based on wishful thinking or lip service). also, whatever your understanding of forgiveness is, it must be reconciled with 997-8. you cannot translate one part of the quran to contradict the other part.

get to learn your arabic better. look up the lexical meanings of those words and see if forgiveness or mercy are what they really mean. if that's what you come up with, fine. but thats certainly not what I come up with. to base an entire quranic philosophy on errant english translation is just a house of cards waiting to be blown down.

2- plant the seed of LOVE and FORGIVENESS in your HEART and THE ALMIGHTY will present you with PEACE.
3- DO GOOD and THE ALMIGHTY will shower you with goodness.Watering the ROSES of the garden of heart is done by REMEMBERANCE!

I have learned Arabic when i was very young and do not like the game of cards!!!

that's a beautiful philosophy of conduct.
as far as the arabic meanings of the words, i've decided not to embroil myself in doing simple research for other people. if its a simple matter of looking it up, i think it should be simple enough for those interested enough to do so. and if they aren't interested enough to do so, the chances are that they don't really care too much in the first place. i merely wanted to bring it to people's attention that those words being translated as mercy and forgiveness ought to be checked. the other thing i pointed out was not to translate one part of the quran to contradict other parts.
